There are better customer service options. They used to be great when they were Woodmansee but times have changed.

JC Tefft Oil truly has some of the best oil prices in the state of Rhode Island, which is one of…read morethe reasons I chose them for my deliveries. I'm new to New England--I was born and raised in Minnesota--and I moved into my apartment in November 2025. I scheduled my first oil delivery with Tefft in December and paid $281 for 100 gallons. The process was smooth. A very kind representative (whose name I unfortunately didn't catch) helped me through email due to phone issues at the time. She collected my address, phone number, and payment information, and the delivery went perfectly. However, my second experience was the complete opposite. I emailed a request for delivery on Saturday, February 7th, and later reached someone by phone that same day. She scheduled me for February 11th-- the earliest available date--and told me she couldn't quote a price yet. She mentioned I could call the day before or day of to check the price, but she never said I needed to call back to confirm it. She verified the last four digits of my card, so I thought everything was set. On February 11th, no delivery arrived. My tank was still low, and I spent Wednesday night and Thursday morning playing phone tag. When I finally reached someone Thursday afternoon, the same representative told me she had never scheduled my delivery because I "didn't call back to confirm the price." At no point was I told that I had to confirm the price before they would deliver--only that I could call if I wanted to know it. I had clearly scheduled 100 gallons for February 11th and confirmed my payment information. Because of this miscommunication, I won't be using this company again. I understand the challenges during busy winter storms, especially for one person handling high call volume, but the lack of clear communication is unacceptable. I was able to schedule another delivery with them for tomorrow, February 13th, and she again confirmed the last four digits of my card. I'm hoping it actually arrives this time. Please consider hiring more staff--one person juggling all incoming calls for oil deliveries simply isn't enough.

House had no heat. Temperature going to 10. Called to ask for delivery that day stating my pipes would freeze. Judy's response was "we will not deliver to your house any longer. Our driver didn't know what house to deliver the oil." I had given her distinct and explicit description of the house. Large house. The only one with a porch on the right side of the driveway. After coming for 8 years, now you do not know??? I told her that was not very nice of her as this is at 3 in the afternoon and I am not sure I could get someone new. She then hung up on me. They should not be allowed to be in business with that attitude and lack of service.

I have been with Buckley since the Buckley family owned it. They prided themselves on customer…read moreservice and every encounter was pleasurable. They have since been bought out by Petro and their service has been so horribly terrible that I would rather gt a root canal than deal with these morons. First they messed up my propane account resulting in a large bill that I still do not believe was mine. They decide they wanted cash on delivery in order to provide propane. It was more convenient for me to simply deposit $1400.00 on my account to insure monthly deliveries with no worries. yeah right. They then update their online portal and since that point it has been virtually impossible to track my balance or usage. For the last 9 months I have been told that they were working on the website and it would be fully functional within 1 days. More lies, its been almost 9 months. For convenience sake I decided to get oil from them also. Another fiasco, they quote the most expensive oil prices in Rhode Island. When I questioned this they offered me a price $.90 cents less than the original. I agreed to sign a service agreement for oil. two days later I received a call saying they needed permission to pull a credit report. I asked why it was necessary since I maintain a credit balance on the account in excess of two tank fills. I was told that he didn't know why but that they were not interested in y business if they could not pull the report or I could pay the current street price, a dollar more than the cheapest available. I opted to get my oil elsewhere and instructed them to refund the credit balance on my account. If they didn't want to [rovde my oil there was no rationale to allow them to keep my money and earn interest in it. Was told it would take 7-10 days to receive the check. That was on 4/16. Today is 5/4 still no check. I called and after voicing my concerns was placed in hold and then disconnected. I called back and spoke with a different person, who told me I had a positive credit on my account of $77.00. I voiced my concerns as the entire amount was supposed to be refunded, I had not authorized them to keep any of it. She also could give me no information on the whereabouts of my $600.00. She offered to email internally a sales rep, for what reason I do not know. She promised me that someone would call me promptly. I would avoid doing business with these thieves under any circumstances. They are sooo nice until they get your money then they dont give two shits about you. Do Business with them at your own risk. I will wait 24 hours then file complaints with the state division of business regulation and the BBB. I had to rate one star but they are not even worth that! Update: I finally got a call back and low and behold I have been waiting over two weeks for a check that they never sent. The excuse they gave was feeble at best. I made it clear that I expected them to cut the check and send it certified and registered in overnight mail since they wasted my time for over two weeks. Jenna, thank you for the response to my original post. What you can do is expedite my almost 700$ check. If you wish to speak to me you can try the number associated with my account. FYI after the first call I received a call from someone who claimed to be with customer service. I spent over 20 minutes with her on the phone and outlined everything and also gave her several suggestions on improving customer service. Obviously that was a waste of my time also, as the check was never sent. I will say one nice thing. My propane, on automatic delivery, works like clockwork. At this point I will retain your propane service because quite frankly it is not worth the time to change to another vendor. Update: I spoke with Buckley today and a lot of misinformation was cleared up. Actually spoke with someone in the local office who took a huge amount of time and answered all of my questions. I will remain a customer as they acknowledged the limitations of their credit department which is located somewhere closer to the midwest. Upgraded rating as a result.

This company does what it wants at the expense of the customer. They tried billing myself and other customers for propane that was not delivered. My home that I purchased less than a month ago, was unable to maintain temperatures above 55-57°F, significantly below the state legal habitability standard of 68°F. Despite two separate service calls sending Anthony Watts, this company's "expertise" cost my family over $1,300 in unnecessary expenses and weeks of hardship. The Failure of Due Diligence: During the first visit, the technician dismissed our concerns, claiming the unit was "fine" and that the cold was simply due to having an "old house." Keep in mind our heating system is TWO years old. I was charged $300 for this dismissive and incorrect assessment. When the issue persisted, my young children are freezing, and I called them back for a second look, the technician performed a combustion test and again insisted the system was functioning perfectly. Although the house never broke 57 degrees while the heat was on. The Reality: After two failed diagnostics by this firm, I hired a second company. They identified the issue within minutes: the main supply line for the first floor was completely disconnected. This is a textbook case of professional negligence. For a technician with "10+ years of experience" to miss a detached main trunk line while 80% of my heat was pumping directly into the attic is inexcusable. I have numerous photos for reference. Because of this oversight, my system ran continuously for two weeks trying to heat the outdoors. This resulted in: $1,000 in wasted propane burned in just 14 days. $300 in service fees paid to a company that failed to perform a basic visual inspection of the air delivery system. Safety concerns for my family, as we were left in a freezing home during peak winter. If you are looking for a company that performs thorough troubleshooting and respects your hard-earned money, look ELSEWHERE. I am currently seeking a full refund for the service fees and restitution for the fuel damages caused by their lack of professional care.

DuPuis never billed me for the service on August 12th. On October 27th my boiler didn't start. I called DuPuis and the service manager told me that they won't support my boiler anymore unless I buy their oil. I told them I would find someone else. 3 days later, which was 80 days from the corrective service they did on August 12th, I get a bill. My first bill for this service with net 20 terms. On November 5th they send me a statement that included two months of a late fee, for a bill I didn't even have during that time. The late charges are fraudulent. They did shoddy work on my boiler and after it polluted my house and almost killed me, they want me to pay for them to re-clean and properly adjust my boiler because I wouldn't let them extort me into buying their overpriced oil. On August 12th I would have paid the bill had they presented me an invoice as per usual, but assumed they didn't because their poor work necessitated the August 12 service call. If they were going to bill me with terms of Net 20 for the work they did on August 12th, they should have billed me on August 12th, not 80 days afterwords because I refused to be extorted. For them to charge me late fees for two months I wasn't billed is criminal. They should be audited to see what other unethical business practices they employ.

The only reason I stayed with them so long is because they did the installation of our heating and cooling system when we purchased our house and it was under a 5yr warranty. Our cooling system never properly worked and every year I had to call them and complain. They would send someone out and I'd be assured that it was the last time I'd have a problem but the next year my central AC would not work on the first hot day of the year when I turned it on. This went on for 5yrs until they would no longer come out because my system was no longer under warranty. I finally had a professional come out to inspect my AC system and he uncovered numerous issues from the unit being installed inappropriately in the attic to a Freon leak so it's pretty obvious that L&M was just putting a band aid on my system until they were no longer contractually obligated to fix it. Also, there oil is on avg. a lot more expensive than their competitors so we stopped using them to fill up our oil tank but we kept them on to service our burner until this year when they informed us that they would not come out to our house because we didn't buy oil from them, even though they sent us a renewal form and we paid them $200. Full disclosure it does say on their agreement that you have to buy from them but the agreement is pretty wordy so I must have missed it. I would expect them to run their business a little tighter and not even send me the renewal agreement or the reminders to get my burner serviced if I no longer qualified for their program. The bottom line is my experience with this company has been pretty frustrating and I really question their integrity after learning of all the issues associated with my AC. I'm sure that there are more reputable companies out there to spend your hard earned cash on.
