Mixed bag with highs and lows. -- Hot and Sour Soup (on a lunch combo): Pleasing rendition, with many mushroom types, a just-thick-enough broth, and some mini bits of red pepper in addition to liquid heat. Above average. -- Magnolia Special Chicken Wings: Big plate of wings in a dark sauce combining sweet, heat, and a bit of sour, but not to be mistaken for sweet and sour. Outside, not much crispness. Inside, not much tenderness, and barely moist (forget juicy), but nice marinade flavor deep down. Above average to well above average, but previously elite. -- Pork Egg Foo Yong (on a lunch combo): Two naked patties/omelettes with thick brown gravy on the side. Exterior not crisp, but firm. Interior perfectly tender with a profusion of large chunked onions and tasty pork, and fairly fresh pork at that. Good flavor to the gravy-- served as a big bowl with no monkey dish or spoon. Near-elite. -- Pork Fried Rice (on a lunch combo): Fresh and nice texture but subtle of flavor and not old school style. Decent amount of pork. Rice-a-Roni flavor. Average to slightly above. (Yes, maybe slightly above. Rice-a-Roni has its place.) -- Chicken Fingers (on a lunch combo): Standard issue with the usual low meat-to-batter ratio. Nothing noteworthy on the positive or negative side. Average. Servicewise, I felt ignored the entire meal. Had to grab my own napkins off another table. Hoped for a chance at a water refill that came too late. Long wait for the check. Nothing rude, but not present, alert, or efficient.

It's been a bummer how many Chinese restaurants have closed in the area over the last few years,…read morebut Karma is a new Asian fusion one that popped up relatively recently that I finally got to try for my recent birthday celebration. Entering the building is like stepping into a different environment, feeling like a big city eatery with many customers and bustling activity. There's an almost comically large amount of takeout and delivery orders on a large table at the front counter, so they've really taken the area by storm. Once I had a taste of their food, I could see why! We started with the pork pan fried gyoza, one of the best I've had and full of flavor and a good amount of meat. I ordered the seafood chow foon for the entree, which I haven't had before, and wow it was fantastic. Two chunks of lobster tail are in there with sliced scallops, some shrimps, and numerous squid pieces stir-fried with wide flat noodles in a mild egg white sauce. There's also large bok choys on the edges. It was for sure a top of the line birthday dinner, especially if you don't eat red meat and/or can't handle spiciness or sharing with someone with those preferences. I also had the Mongolian beef which tasted wonderful, flavorful, and tender. I also had a bit of the pad thai which had a really nice flavor, savory and kind of smoky. I for sure want to come back, to try some chicken dishes and their sushi as well. The service was great too. Karma is highly recommended and appears to be the main Chinese restaurant of Concord now!

I don't usually write reviews but doing so now as I think Karma had better than expected food -…read moreeven prices not so bad for Concord - but ambience in the dining room was ruined by the jarring "disco" dance music which was all bass and never changed during the 2 hours I was there. Although I asked to turn down the music a tad as I believe others did as well, we were totally disregarded. Loud music in a bar and/or late night is one thing.. Instead of a relaxing dinner at 6:30pm it was nerve racking and difficult to carry on a conversation.

Usually we have dinner there but for the first time, I tried one of their weekday lunch specials. The price is great at about 15$, and includes a small soup and appetizer. The portion was plenty for me to take home leftovers for another meal. One of the ladies that works there always remembers my family and our regular orders. She has worked there for years, is tall and wears glasses and used to live in N. Hollywood. lol that's what I know about her, and don't know her name. Shout out to her, she's awesome.

The Massaman Curry was filled mostly with carrots giving the whole dish a strange flavor as carrots do have a unique flavor and can add a negative additional taste to any dish. In addition all the recipes I searched not a single one had carrots, exclusively chicken, potatoes, and onion. The sauce was very very watery and not creamy at all, as if they added diluted coconut milk or regular milk. The meal was poor at best. Do not think I will be going back as a result. They seem to be trying to save on the quality of the food they are producing. As you should be able to make a decent flavorful Massaman with a creamy nicely spiced Curry sauce with some rice.
