Samosa, naan, Chana masala & Paneer Tikka Masala
    Natalia S.

The place is on the back of the supermarket. We always get samosas (perfect w/the green sauce they give), naans from the supermarket (because we eat so much of it and it's convenient and cheaper) and of course a Chana Masala and a Paneer Tikka Masala (our favorites!) we tried other vegetarian options and they are great too! We always share to get a little bit of each and still have some left over for a "take to work" meal on the next day. Their rice it's good too! The only rice my daughter eats ;)

Always ordered our Indian from Spice Kitchen on a regular basis and ordered for my birthday which was a great success and everyone loved the food. I ordered today and it was totally different when the food arrived. I called and seems they are under new management. Totally disappointed and nothing like the food we have been ordering for the last 2 years. It was my favorite place. Included a picture and my chicken korma was totally different and very greasy. Used to be creamy and a a very different color same as the butter chicken. Would love to know where the chef went so I can keep ordering.

The bhaji was fried with mostly onion and potatoes, and pretty good with the mint chutney provided. The soup was more flavorful, with either tofu or paneer and the broth having both Indian and Chinese spices. I went with the butter chicken for my main plate, and request hot level spice. My mom ordered the misal pav, while my dad took the green curry with paneer. My butter chicken was good, but there was no heat noticeable. While I tasted some spices, there was no fuel to any fire. The chicken was a bit in the tougher side, but still enjoyable because I believe it had tandoori flavor. My mom's misal pav had more heat, and was good with the lentils. After adding onions and other toppings, it brought the Indian street food flavor. We took rice instead of the bun. My dad's green curry was also good, but on the sweeter side. The paneer as the requested protein was consistent in the texture. For dessert, we took two orders of ras malai, which was homemade. It was definitely a legit dessert with the ricotta cheese balls in the milky sauce with Indian spices on top. Just delicious! After finishing the food, we all agreed that it was quite enjoyable. The service was attentive and it was table service, but there were some things we had to do ourselves. A large bottle of water was provided, and we have to fill our cups ourselves. We also had to move our used plates and items to the side of the table, the made the space quite cramped. We also packed the foods ourselves to take home. However, our server was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very casual, with various movie posters on the tables, and the music playing classic Indian movie songs. The dining area is small, but it was pretty quiet with not many people when we were there. Mirchi is located in a strip mall in Colonial and Dillard Street intersection, and parking was not difficult. Mirchi reminds me of a smaller version of Bombay Street Kitchen, with just a smaller dining area and more limited selection. I wish they still had South Indian options like dosa, but they stopped about two months ago. Still, for street food, it was quite enjoyable, and the prices were reasonable. We paid about 85 dollars after tips. Just expect casual, no frills atmosphere. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, their sister restaurant, Cilantro is a couple miles away in downtown Winter Garden. With the good Indian food at reasonable prices, we will come back, and also give Cilantro a try as well. Overall: B

The restaurant was empty, out there was another Indian couple eating, so I thought that's a good sign. We visited for a late lunch on a Friday. It comes with a main dish, two apps, soup and a dessert. Pani puri to start with the green shots, the dahi puri comes with a yogurt sauce. Samosa was perfect and I ordered the Chilli chicken with fried rice. It was soooo good, I ordered it medium but it was pretty spicy. I really loved the flavor, so unique. My husband ordered the chana masala, which was also very good. I loved the sweet ending with 1 gulab jamun, covered in the typical honey sauce. I wished there would have been more than one, but everything was excellent!!

The vegetable korma was plentiful and basmati rice was included. The korma was creamy with the cashew paste and had an ample amount of tasty vegetables. The korma was also on the milder side, but still has some spices for me to enjoy. The rice was cooked nicely to enjoy the korma with. We also had some onion nan, which was pretty fluffy, and soft after putting it on the korma. The lassi was on the thicker side, but still very enjoyable as the the yogurt texture made the drink more authentic. The ras malai for dessert is always my favorite, and this was no exception as it was 4 ricotta cheese balls in a milky sauce that had a hint of rose flavor. All food and drinks were very satisfying. Since my dad had all the food to go, I am unable to comment on the service and atmosphere. However, I know this restaurant is owned by Uday (who used to have Passage to India) in International Drive, so I knew this place would be high quality. This is a great Indian restaurant in the Clermont area, and worth the drive for people closer to Orlando. Overall: A

I liked the Paneer slightly more. The waitress said the portions are large, but we didn't agree with that. They were the same sizes as almost all Indian Restaurants. I suppose for the price, I would have appreciated more if the veggies were not frozen. The white rice that came with the Paneer was plain and wished it had a bit more pizzaz, maybe peas, saffron for example. When you add the prices in, with the overall flavoring as fair to pretty good, we felt that it would not be on our list upon our return to Clermont. We have been to countless Indian Restaurants and so we compare many factors in the rating. That being said, the red did a bustling business for a Sunday afternoon.

I've had a lot of Indian food over the years from many different places, as it's one of my favorites. This place does it very well. Everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly. First off, this is around the fourth or fifth time we visit Saffron Indian Cuisine in the Sand Lake…read morearea. The restaurant, in our view, has gotten increasingly lacklustre in the past couple of years. While the tables and the interiors are still generally clean, we have noticed wobbly table legs and cracked/torn seat covers that seem to remain unchanged and/or unrepaired for months. Coming to the food, while most of the Punjabi and North-west Indian fare on their menu has been the typically Americanized Indian food for the most part, anything outside of that category on their menu can and will throw you off. Especially if you've had the authentic stuff and know what those dishes taste like. On our latest visit last night, we ordered dahi tikki for appetizer which was served to us without the dahi. No attempt was made on part of the server or the kitchen staff to correct the error and provide the yogurt dressing. So we had a couple of aloo tikkis (spiced potato patties) with the regular chutneys that were at the table. We also ordered chicken vindaloo, bhindi do pyaza and butter naan for the entrée. To our surprise, the chicken tasted nothing like vindaloo and it had potatoes in it!!! LOL! For the uninitiated, Vindaloo is the Indian interpretation of 'Carne de Vinha d'alhos', which was introduced in the early 16th century to the former Portuguese colony of Goa in India. In Goa, the dish is colloquially known as 'vindalho' or 'vindaloo' and is prepared in a very similar manner to its Portuguese counterpart. It's a type of braised meat prepared with bold fiery spices and wine vinegar to impart that recognisably bold, pickle like flavour and has a beautiful, rich brown sauce. Vindaloo has absolutely NOTHING to do with Aloo (potatoes) in any shape, way or form. What was served to us seemed like some Frankensteined variation of Chicken tikka masala with some potatoes thrown in at whim. The bhindi do pyaza was alright in terms of flavor but the team in their kitchen ignored to discard the cap/stem of the okras causing the preparation to have a rather unpleasant texture and mouthfeel. The butter naans were also very inconsistent in texture. The first one was fine, the second one was overcooked, brown and crispy and the one we ordered to go was slightly undercooked and doughy. Also, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but the lights inside the restaurant kept being dimmed to the point of being turned off several times when we were seated at the table at around 8:30PM. I'm not sure what's going on with this restaurant but if the owners and staff actually read the reviews, please do something about it. We have been to Saffron before and we used to really enjoy the food, the service and the overall atmosphere. But lately it's been all going downhill. The only saving grace is that the portions served here are still huge. But that won't save the restaurant if the quality of the food and everything else keeps tanking. It'll be a shame to see another good restaurant fall from grace. We would absolutely urge the owners to take notice and fix things so those of us who have loved this place in the past can keep returning.

The pakora was fried perfectly and had the right amount of spices, making it so flavorful and addicting that my mom enjoyed it so much. The meat area had Chicken Tikka Masala, Cashew Chicken, Goat Biryani, and Tandoori Chicken. All were wonderful. The biryani had nice pieces of goat, but most of them had bones. The the goat was tender and flavorful from being with the bones. The cashew chicken was good, but also had bones. The chicken tikka was boneless and the chicken was soft. The sauces were flavorful and medium spiced. The tandoori chicken was cooked nicely, but you did need a knife and fork to cut it. For the vegetarian dishes, the okra and potato were both enjoyable. The paneer dish was a bit too sweet for me, and the vegetable biryani seemed to have golden raisins, which I didn't enjoy. For dessert, I just took the fruit custard, which was mostly just fruit in a mango milk/sauce. It was still delicious! We all agreed that the food was great here for the buffet! The service is good, but can be busy. While our plates got cleared for the first rounds, it did pile up during the second round and dessert. It didn't get cleared until we left. It was ok because we had enough space to eat anyways. I also noticed that relaxing piano music was in the background, so it does help calm the atmosphere in a tourist area. The price increased to about 20 dollars per person, but this is still a great deal. With various types of food to enjoy and unlimited portions til your stuffed, it's an excellent value. The cheese naan is unlike any paneer naan we have tried before--almost like a cheesy quesadilla. They didn't have Aloo Choley listed, but when we asked, the kitchen put together a version with chickpeas and potatoes that turned out delicious. We ordered the Dal Maharani, and while our waitress asked about spice level, it felt like she made the decision for us. We enjoy spice, but even the first bite was hotter than we expected, and we barely ate any of it despite it being otherwise flavorful. Toward the end, our waitress asked us to leave a review... and then stood there waiting. When my husband said we were still chatting, she kept circling back to check, which felt pretty pushy. Later, when we requested to-go boxes, she said "there is no rush" and then disappeared. We had to ask again. Overall, the food is good and the staff is mostly friendly, but the unexpectedly fiery dal and the slightly overzealous service kept this from being a 5-star experience.
