It is with great sadness I write this review. I was inspired by the reviews on the numerous internet booking sites and the photos of the hotel's own web site. The price was reasonable for the one night I was needing a nice stay for one night in Milan. However due to an unfortunate internet glitch, my reservation was made for only one night and inadvertently booked for a non-refundable reservation.
No problem I thought. With over thirty years in the travel and leisure industry, such things regularly happen, reservations can be changed and everything works out. Much to my chagrin this was not the case with the Spice Hotel. First the internet booking site wanted to charge twice for the room according to the arrangement with the hotel. Then once I reached out to the hotel directly, they wanted me to use a third party vendor to pay their "service fee." After spending over two hours with my bank and Visa who was literally watching the charge go through live, they told me the issue was with the third party vendor's internet s server and not Visa.
Once I went back to the internet booking site, they attempted to contact the hotel several times. Of which they had difficulty reaching the front desk, regardless of what times they called. When they did, the usual response was. "It is a non refundable room."
Like I stated earlier, I have thirty years experience in this industry and have worked pretty much all aspects of it, literally from the ground up. One thing I have learned is; when a guest has this much trouble making a simple change in a reservation AND the property is holding onto the cash up-front . . .
