Spenser's Pub is a full service bar inside the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel. I visited this pub multiple times during our stay. I especially loved their selection of local Arizona beers on tap. And I also enjoyed a fantastic margarita. Bonus, they do provide to-go cups, so you can enjoy your cocktail or beer in your hotel room. The service was always top-notch, and the bartenders were able to give us great advice on exploring the town of Williams. The only critique I have is the lack of TVs for watching sports. They are all pretty tiny, and when we went, offered no sound. Overall, if I came back to Williams again, I would definitely swing by Spenser's. read more

Spenser's Pub - Margarita - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Williams, Arizona

The ambience is lovely. Like old time 1920s with dark wood and pastoral paintings. The bar itself has some awesome history and makes it worth stopping in for a drink. I had a "martini" that was excellent and tasted like kahlua and cream. I went back for seconds after eating the somewhat "challenged in taste" department food. I'd eaten a big lunch, so I just went for the Asian themed salad. The lettuce looked like it had seen better days, and they covered it with those crunchy Chinese noodles to try to hide the wiltedness. I hope there was no slime, but I'm not entirely sure in hindsight. I only ate half of it and ordered another drink instead. The yuk factor ratcheted up with my husband's bratwurst, which was served on a pretzel roll. It looked good at first, and he dived in, but after a couple bites he noticed the mold on the bun. Mold! On the bun. Ewwwww! This made me look at my own salad with a more discerning eye, to be sure. To their credit they brought him a different meal, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, that he proclaimed "bland, needed salt and pepper (there was none on the table) but at least there was no mold." I felt bad for the server, because if they're serving food this crap on a daily basis, they must be terrified to go to work. It's a real shame, because I think the hotel is lovely. They need a better food manager who doesn't allow this kind of poor quality to walk out the door of their kitchen. Oh, it was our anniversary too. Happy anniversary to us! Woot! read more

Typical hotel bar. This one happens to be tied to the Grand Canyon Railway. A fairly diverse menu of Penni's and pizzas. Cottage pie and the Blue Caboose were ordered. Both were very good selections. Our waitress was personable and fast. Friendly and knowledgeable read more

Sat at the bar with my fiancee and had their strawberry bliss and prickly pear margarita along with the cottage pie ( their version of a shepherd pie) and Instead of ground beef they put beef chunks omg so much better!! My fiancé had their baron dip sandwich which he loved!!! The bartender Jessie was amazing and super friendly and accommodating loved chatting with her. We are staying her in the hotel for 4 days and 3 nights so we will be hanging out here during the own time. read more

Spenser's Pub - The train outside the hotel - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Williams, Arizona

Pub food is generally not the highest caliber but even for pub food this was among the WORST food I've EVER eaten! I ordered a pizza with extra mushrooms. What I received was what appeared to be a previously made cheese pizza that had been sitting under a heat lamp or in an oven for a considerable period of time drying out and getting tough. When served it had warmed mushrooms sprinkled on the top LONG after the pizza had been removed from baking. If I held the pizza slice tilted the mushrooms easily rolled off. It was clear this was an unserved cheese pizza they were saving to doctor up for another customer. I will never return to Spenser's pub. read more

Spenser's is the restaurant in the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel and I assumed it would be like most hotel bars, basically just for convenience sake and I wasn't expecting much. However, it was over a holiday weekend and basically everything else as closed so we ate here. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much but their chips and salsa wasn't too bad. I was expecting something bottled or canned but it tasted pretty fresh. Likewise, their soup of the day was a large, shallow bowl of rice with some large pieces of chicken: it was Southwest Chicken rice so it makes sense. I was really only disappointed in my actual main: their Baron Dip, which said it had grilled onions, cheese and horseradish but it came out pretty unadorned-like it the meat had been reheated in a microwave then just kind of dumped. It didn't look particularly appetizing, but you take what you get when the options are limited. read more

The rating is for our server, Miguel, and the convenience of the pub being within the hotel. The Caesar Salad was the BEST that I've ever had, the dressing was to die for, the size of the salad was excellent! The drinks were good & the old saloon feel of the bar itself was cool. They had two t.v.s on, one with Sunday night football, the other with the world series so that was a perfect Sunday at the bar. My husband had the cottage pie, he loves shepherds pie so the description sounded amazing. However, the pie itself was a bit of a disappoint, mainly due to the gravy, not appealing at all. We had shared the wings as an appetizer, good healthy size. Between the wings and the Caesar salad, I was full so I opted for no meal. All in all, we'd probably go back again if we stay in the hotel again. read more

What an awesome bar! It's got a great charm and old west look and feel to it. We were staying at the Grand Canyon Railway hotel and decided to stop by Spensers pub. They have a full bar plus some food options. The bartender we had was amazing. During our visit we had the Sunset Jack drink, Firebox and Prickly Pear cactus beer. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back. read more

We considered eating here when we were staying at the GC Railway Hotel. The hotel food was horrible. We needed a change an didnt feel like driving out to find some dinner. We stopped in here to eat and the food was delicious. Waiter was friendly and attentive. read more

Decided to forego the bad buffet included with our package and decided on having dinner here. We ordered the chili for $13.50 for a bowl which was more like a cup in other restaurants. It was tasty though. And also ordered pretzel bites that came out burned and looked old. We each had a drink that were good. The bar itself was nice looking though. read more

Staying the night in Williams at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in anticipation of a overnight trip to the Canyon tomorrow. Grabbed a bit and a couple drinks at the hotel bar which was loaded with atmosphere, sporting a magnificent, 100+ year old hand-crafted bar - beautiful work. Very nice specialty cocktails and a Cottage Pie which the Aussies would call "Shepherds Pie" that was plate licking good. All very nice! read more

*Located inside The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel Dropped in to have a drink before retiring to our hotel room for the night. Very dark, very small, and dinks are very expensive! We had dinner here for two nights we stayed at the Grand Canyon Railroad Hotel, delicious food and excellent server!

A wonderful place to spend the evening while staying at the Grand Railway hotel. The bar is beautiful! Ask to see the history of it. The wine and bar menus have a nice selection and the drinks are not overpriced, despite the captive audience. The bartender during the week is Barbara. She is warm and friendly and is an excellent mixologist. Food is served at the pub but we didn't look at the menu as our package deal included meals at the on site buffet. read more

We had a salad, chicken Alfredo Penne, and Cottage Pie. We did not like anything. Food was mediocre at best.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW. After a nice evening riding the polar express with my wife, 5 year old daughter and 1 year old son , we needed to eat . We stopped at Spencers to eat within the hotel . The tables where half full but there was not a cleaned/bussed table to be found. After 10 minutes we where able to get a menu that I pulled from another table that also was not bused. We ordered , got our drinks and then BAM Fire Alarm sounds. The staff starts to panic, not very well trained at all. We step out into the 32 degree cold with my 1 year old son who starts to loose it, we where not prepared to stay in the cold for the next 20-30 minutes, at the time it was unknown how long we had to stay outside. I tell the staff I have to leave. The first thing say to me is have you paid your bill? ... No I will pay it in the morning. NO SIR YOU HAVE TO WAIT , wait till when? huh? No I cant I have kids freezing in the cold.. I walk away. Three employees start to chase me as I walk away. I say ok here is my credit card I hand it to the manager . I will pick it up in the morning. I have to go ..stop chasing me, I actually have to say the words.... " go away". They do... so I think ?...ok thats settled. I jog to my vehicle park in the Handicap spot (lot is full) as to not pull up front for possible incoming fire apparatus . Turn my flashers on. I load my children in and strap them in the car seat , my wife realizes she had cash in the glove box, tell me to wait here Im going to give them hundred dollar bill so we can get the hell out of here and get your card back. As I wait,... Two hotel security come up , sir you need to move. I say ok.. I need one minute my wife is on her way. The Security officer response? MOVE OR YOU WILL BE ARRESTED . wait what? For parking in a handicap spot to stay out of the way ? While in the vehicle , with my flashers on? YES he says. He radios for PD. Ok great. well fine... I will leave... I leave park on the outside fringe of the parking lot and wait for my wife. We then load up and go eat at another establishment to eat. BUT NOW I HAVE TO STAY HERE FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS !! Dont stay here. These employees are totally overwhelmed in the normal course of buisness and untrained. read more

After working in Phoenix all morning, then hopping in the car for a three hour drive up to Williams, the first thing I wanted after checking into the hotel was a nice, cold beer. Hooray for a pub with a happy hour special!! $4 draft beers and free chips and salsa! We were the first group of people to arrive to the pub for the evening around 4:30pm (opens at 4pm). We were originally going to eat dinner, but after being a little turned off by the pricing for the kid's meals, we decided to get our drinks and a couple snacks to hold us over. We ordered our beers, chicken fingers, and a plate of nachos (see my tip about the nachos). Our waitress was super nice and made our girls some "kiddie cocktails" (Shirley Temples) and brought our beers rather quick. Food was fast too. It picked up a little bit while we were there with what I assume were people getting off the train. In the end, the beer was flat (but that might just be the fault of the Grand Canyon Brewing Co, not the pub) and the quality of the food was poor and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and come here for happy hour, but get dinner elsewhere. read more

Limited menu, ok food, horrible service! We arrived at approx 8:40pm to a mostly empty restaurant and EVERY table was dirty. The waitress and bartender were sitting in the corner on their phones and eating. We sat down and waited and waited and waited. Finally our waitress got off Facebook long enough to come to our table. I think her name was Lupe, she was totally incapable of multitasking. She left the table to get a towel to clean it, then after she cleaned it she had to leave again to get menus. I asked her about the beers on tap- she couldn't tell me (there are only 5 by the way) and left again to get a drink menu. I've never encountered someone so incompetent at their job! Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options in Williams, but I'd rather eat McDonalds than deal with the horrid service offered by Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel. read more

Service too slow, EXPENSIVE food (we ordered 2 cinnamon buns and the buns weren't fresh but tough, 1 coffee and 1 bottle of oj and we ended up paying over $20). I expected to pay this price if we were staying at a 5 star hotel but hello??!! this was Williams AZ not Beverly Hills, CA. AVOID this place for quick snacks or quick drinks. Just walk a couple of blocks to downtown Williams and I guaranty you'll find a cheaper resturant with faster service. read more

I wish I read the other tips, they were right on point. We showed up and waited ten minutes for the lazy bartender to show , then our cheese whiz nachos appeared and the bartender avoided us like a bill OReilly at a democrat convention.Dear Grand Canyon railroad not sure what's worse the food, service , or atmosphere as in the rumbling dishwasher behind the bar Please do yourself a favor and change your menu to include quality good or try not lying about ingredients e.g. The cheese whized laced nachos. The customers at the bar also need an attentive bartender as in one that pays attention to their needs and just does not disappear for ten minutes at a whack. Pay attention to yelp and realize that the feedback you are getting is not only correct but also a gift. Think of how many businesses fail because they don't know what to fix? GCRR, listen to your customers ... Please !People spend a lot if money to visit your hotel and if reputation matters then make it so. Interior was so dark, reminded me of a funeral parlor. Bar was so bad I kept waiting for John Taffer to come in! read more

Food average to low, but service is really, really terrible. We are guests at the hotel for two nights, and I definitely expect better service. Waited 20 minutes after seating ourselves, had to go to bartender and ask if they were serving dinner. She said they were. Ooookayyyy... Ten minutes later someone came. Asked us what she could get for us. I said, "a menu". Kind of downhill after that. Wait staff treated us like we were in their way. The quality of food is not enough to make up for the poor service. There are plenty of good eateries in Williams. Save the frustration and time and go elsewhere. The hotel itself was nice, but very noisy rooms and overworked staff that find it difficult to be nice. read more

Nice bar, good job on the interior design! Good handful of beers on tap, the two we tried were nice. Food is limited in choice, but the menu has salads, appetisers, mains and deserts. So a bit of everything. Food was okay, nothing to complain, except perhaps that their pulled pork sandwich could do better with some more BBQ sauce. Service was attentive, fast and friendly. Only downer was that one of the beers came only half through the meal (ordered as first thing). Reason was that they had to get a new barrel first, which caused the delay. They did let me know however immediately that one of the beers will take longer due to this. read more

Good food, quick attentive service. Due to liquor laws it closes at 10, even when the bar is bustling. That seem weird. read more

Slow and inattentive service from bartender. Prices just a bit high for a small town that isn't exactly a high dollar sort of city (and the hotel for that matter). Better off to just bring your own liquor from home to your room, or walk across the tracks to a local restaurant/bar/brewery on the main drag. read more

If you're a hotel guest at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, it's a very convenient place to grab and cocktail/beer and appetizers. Decor is not bad and they offer some of the locally brewed ales from Grand Canyon Brewing Company. The food was standard pub food, we had the beef dip and it was tasty. The "homemade" chips are really good. Our waitress was slow and the table was dirty, but we really felt badly for the young couple next to us. Apparently Spenser's has a rule that if they card you they document your drivers license number, name, date of birth, and require your signature in a book that is used for this purpose. The information does not seem to be at all secure, and I would regard this as an extreme invasion of privacy. The couple did not get a drink because they did not want to sign the paper and have their information available in an environment that is not secure. Rather than let them leave with the paper, the manager and a security guard were, in my opinion, rude and ridiculous. Be wary if you are under 30 and want a drink in this establishment. There is no good reason that I can see to document this information in this way. The food, service, and atmosphere would not be worth the hassle. read more
