After a knee surgery and a lot of injuries to my back and shoulders that didn't require surgery, I realized it was just too much for an old guy, and sat on the couch for two years. My better half got tired of me turning into a pile of goo and dragged me to an OTF workout, and I've been loving it ever since. Great workouts, great variety, and it definitely hits all parts of your fitness, from strength to cardio, to explosiveness. I really appreciate the cardio component. I was able to go on a 200 mile bicycle tour in Europe this summer, and I know I would not have made it without the hours spent at OTF Lakeline. My fitness level is better than it has been in 10 years. The coaches motivate you and keep you entertained while you're sweating, and the equipment is top notch. And the best part is I haven't broken any part of me in almost two years!

I have been a Life Time member for a long time, and my household maintains a large membership. We…read moreuse the club consistently, follow the policies, and pay a significant amount each month for what is marketed as a premium experience. There are many things I genuinely appreciate about Life Time, particularly the instructors, who have consistently been one of the strongest parts of the club. Unfortunately, my experience with Kids Academy has become increasingly disappointing, and an interaction today brought several longstanding concerns to a head. First, policies need to be communicated and enforced consistently. When something is permitted one day and prohibited the next--or seems to depend on which employee is working--it becomes very difficult for members to understand what is actually expected of them. I am completely willing to follow the rules. I simply expect those rules to be clear, consistent, and communicated respectfully. More concerning was the manner in which my children and I were spoken to today. My children are also members of this club, and regardless of a disagreement or policy issue, I expect employees working with children to communicate with them respectfully. I was extremely disappointed by the tone and demeanor used toward them. This experience is especially troubling because I have already had concerns about what I have personally observed in Kids Academy over time. I have repeatedly seen very young children crying or visibly distressed for extended periods, ignored and wandering desperately seeking caregiver attention, and interactions that, in my opinion, lack the warmth, patience, and attentiveness I would expect from a childcare environment, the lack of genuine care for the children is appalling. This is not up to standard- particularly those associated with what should be a premium family membership. I recognize that this is gym childcare and not a preschool, and my expectations reflect that distinction. However, basic attentiveness, kindness, appropriate supervision, and respectful communication with children should not be considered premium amenities. They should be the minimum standard. There are certainly kind employees in Kids Academy, including some of the younger staff members who have been wonderful with my children. My concern is not intended as a blanket criticism of every person working there. It is that the overall quality and consistency of the childcare experience does not seem aligned with the standard Life Time promotes elsewhere in the club. My children are older and are able to communicate clearly with me about their experiences and advocate for themselves. Based solely on what I have personally observed, I would NOT leave a very young child who cannot yet communicate independently. I don't expect perfection, and one unpleasant interaction would not ordinarily cause me to reconsider a membership I have and one I would like to maintain. But when inconsistent policies, poor customer service, and concerns about the environment in which members' children are being cared for begin to form a pattern, it deserves attention. Life Time charges a premium price and presents itself as a premium club. I believe it is reasonable for members to expect the quality, professionalism, and customer service in Kids Academy to reflect that same standard. After today's experience, I am genuinely questioning whether the value of our membership continues to justify the cost.

So, I decided to try Title Boxing Gym on Research Blvd. I signed up for a 60-minute boxing class with 15 minutes of core work. The energy was high, the coach motivating, and the workout not for the faint at heart. The class started with a warmup and gradually transformed into a fast paced, intense cardio and strength class. The class included boxing fundamentals with strength conditioning that really pushed you to the limit. No prior boxing experience was needed, although one of the managers stepped me through the basics. In the boxing class, the coach called out 1 2 3 4 5 6, which referred to the standard punch number system coaches use to call out combinations quickly. The standard meanings are 1 = Jab (lead hand, straight), 2 = Cross (rear hand, straight), 3 = Lead hook, 4 = Rear hook, 5 = Lead uppercut and 6 = Rear uppercut. To be honest, she was calling out the number so fast at first, it was hard to keep up. At my prior class, they would say jab, cross, upper, and hook. She was kind to come over and ask if I needed help. When I told her I was not used to hearing just the numbers, she added the description. After a short while, I was able to catch on. We performed combinations and ran around the room or did burpees (hate burpees) between sets. Title gym is clean, organized, and set up to handle a room of boxing rigs. The music, lighting, and overall vibe helped keep motivation high. Our coach was super motivating yet challenging. The front desk manager was kind to show me around Title gym. OMG...this was one of the most intense workouts. After taking the boxing class, I was literally soaking wet. My guess is that I will fall fast asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

It was still challenging though in a different way. I would like to go back and try their conditioning and HIIT classes. They don't have a full schedule and don't offer many class times which is a disappointment.

We are thankful to be back, although in our opinion, it should never have come to this in the first place. Changing from 1 star to 4. Our group has played futsal here every Saturday morning since the gym opened without incident. We welcome anyone -- men, women, and players from all over the world -- and have built a diverse, respectful, safe, and competitive community. Futsal is a world-recognized sport, very different from regular soccer, played on a basketball court with a smaller, heavier ball and soft-soled shoes. The focus is on technique and passing, not speed or heavy contact. Recently, we had 15 players on one court (as always) when we were suddenly told "basketball only" is allowed -- even though posted court rules don't prohibit futsal and the courts are often empty or lightly used. Volleyball and other activities are allowed, yet futsal was banned without warning. We've always shared space and even played on half a court when needed. This enforcement felt arbitrary and inconsistent. Manager Kira said she was "brought in from Dallas to enforce the rules." An outside trainer, apparently giving paid lessons, positioned trainees next to our game, used profanity, and said he didn't "give a xxxx" if futsal is played worldwide. Management saw and did nothing. At that point, 14 members canceled and many more considered leaving. UPDATE: Got a call from the manager of the camp at Twin Lakes and he was very nice and apologetic…read moreand promised to give me a refund for the concession money we put in my kid's account. Apparently the sky trail concession stand was closed (but yet they still had it included in the email to send money for your campers!?) He also promised to send me an email with his direct contact info so if I decided to give the camp another try, I could get ahold of him since the camp director never bothered to respond to me. Well, I never heard back from him and I didn't get that promised refund! I called a week later and he processed the refund and offered to send me that email. I told him this was very bad business and now my daughter definitely wouldn't be coming back. He didn't really care and gave the excuse that they have 600 kids coming through the camp each week and he was so busy. It would have taken him no more than 5 minutes to make this right and refund my money. When a place can't handle the lowest level of customer care and business, I'm definitely not going to trust my child to be in their care. We were so excited to try out YMCA Twin Lakes this year because we have only heard amazing things. Unfortunately, our experience was NOT amazing. It would have been salvageable if my concerns were answered and addressed but it's been over two weeks now and the director has yet to call or email me back. I called twice, texted once, and emailed twice. If I can't get ahold of a camp director with issues, it does not make me feel comfortable having my child in their care. We did a "cake decorating" camp and the first day they used markers to color a worksheet with a cupcake on it. Pretty lame but thought maybe they didn't have much time the first day. Second day, they used mashed potatoes to practice piping icing. Third day, air clay sculpting. They didn't end up actually touching real cake and icing until Thursday and Friday. The camp just didn't deliver on the magical cake decorating experice we were expecting. All could have also been forgiven if they could have been doing some of the amazing activities provided on campus. My camper struggled with the heat, long lines and ultimately, running out of time for activities and not getting a turn. They also only got into the water twice the whole 5 HOT days. Very disappointed with the camp but even more disappointed that I reached out with concerns and they never bothered to answer. There are too many amazing camps in Austin to bother with one that doesn't seem to care or acknowledge that they dropped the ball on this camp. To make matters even more frustrating, we recieved an email with a link to put money on our kid's account to buy popsicles, gatorade and snacks throughout the day. I put $10 on my kid's account and she was never afforded the opportunity to even visit the snack shop while at camp! It's non-refundable and I reached out to also request a refund and have yet to hear back on that as well. Couldn't recommend it to anyone.

It has everything you need and the management has been so thoughtful throughout the gym. There are 3 squat racks (one is a smith machine). There is also a dedicated deadlift bar/area. Numerous cardio machines, strength machines, and this gym is never that crowded. The stretch/ab/turf area is super functional and has almost every piece of equipment you could need. I love that they have wet wipe dispensers for cleaning equipment as well as washcloths and spray for cleaning. I belong to 2 gyms and I find myself going to this one more than the the other gym because of how nice it is.
