I want to shout out to all the employees that were working at Spencer's yesterday. They were great. They not only greeted me and everyone that walked into their store, they asked us if we needed help finding things. The employees are very friendly and willing to talk with their customers. I've been going here for YEARS and most of the time the workers are pretty laid back. Chill. Young people who don't really care about the job mostly which like REAL. Today made me a bit sad though! I came in yesterday it was a good experience with the worker tall dude wearing a mask brown medium length hair. Today it was two people, one younger woman small with blond ish brown hair and a medium built dude and they just immediately felt unwelcoming. I wanted to do a return and they immediately shut it down. The package is un open not used just wrong size, they didn't take it back cuz no receipt (understandable! I did pay card tho). So I said "oh okay I'll just buy another..one in the right size but idk what that is?" They just both kept talking to each other and ignored me while I tried to find a size. They just kept talking about how much they hated working there and how un Girl Boss it is to put items away on shelf's idk weird vibe today. I bought a bunch of pins from this place as a 1 year anniversary gift for my co-workers. Each one was meant to symbolize a characteristic of themselves. The one for my coworker who smokes said "puff puff pass". They all loved it, it didn't matter that I spent 30 dollars on them. Walked in with my husband and noticed a few workers chatting amongst themselves by the checkout counter. A tall ladder blocking the left side of the isle which seemed to act as a part of their unwelcoming presence. As I browsed the store, not one of them offered any type of customer service. There was no "Welcome in" , a smile or "Let us know if you have any questions" type of thing. 3 employees and neither of them made an attempt to show a grain of customer service in the space provided for them to do simple tasks. Acknowledgement other humans especially when getting paid to do so is not asking for much. I came in on one of my daughters suggestion for nose rings & was helped by a nice young man who helped me pick some to fit properly. He was knowledgeable having also had one himself he said. And he was patient with me as I decided as I can be indecisive at times but mainly I look for something to grab my attention. Left with 2 packs made from surgical steel & so far pleased with. Good to know there's a lifetime warranty on the jewelry also, although can't imagine returning. I have brought my daughter here once before & completely forgot they has cases of body jewelry to choose from among the many other novelties. Adult & anime t shirts & things. The location in the Mission valley mall is near where the food court USED to be. Mall isn't as busy as it use to be but I did go on an weekday. I bought a pair of nipple piercings from there two days ago. I wore them and then yesterday I wake up to one of my nipples looking like it had rust or something like the green color you get when the product is plated. I took them out and then they started bleeding profusely. I have had my nipples pierced for 3 years and have NEVER had a problem with them. I went to return them today and the guy that helped me was so rude and did not accept the fact that I have an infected nipple and to give me the full price back I paid for them. Instead I got $10 back on store credit. If the pain continues I'm going to have to go to my doctor and I will b contacting the district manager to get my full refund back. I am never getting jewelry from them ever again! And horrible customer service today from the man who helped me. read more

Come here for all your naughty needs. It's better than all the other stores in the area. I came here yesterday with my friend to buy stuff for my sister's bachelorette party. They have a larger selection for bachelorettes than other stores in San Diego... I know this for a fact because I went to 3 other places! I was able to find a bachelorette sash, tiara, decorations and props. It's not the cheapest place but you'll find what you need. Their staff is always accommodating and helpful whenever I come in! I gave 4 stars because they have good variety and it stands out. There are adult items in the store and its placed in a mall. OK. Herein lies the problem. If the company is going to market , sell, advertise, and have high foot traffic in malls; then a clerk or sales rep or security needs to man the door. Children do not need to see this stuff. The company pushes the envelope to far because it gives a fall sense of what is in the store. If you are an adult, that's entirely different. They have a huge variety if different gear: clothes, hats, underwear, bras along with mounts of clothes they carry a lot if accessories n useless junk! The dude with dark hair, Caucasian wasn't pleasant with my return and it clearly states 30 days returns and he denied my return on suspenders I bought for a costume but I didn't end up using so I wanted to return. I then said I was going to call customer service to complain and then he said "fine" with an attitude that he takes it back aggressively. Then he follows to throw things to express his anger towards me for no reason. I've never dealt with such horrible service. This place is great for what it is and frankly the only store of it's kind. Obviously the merchandise sold isn't suitable for everyone, but neither is clothing from Forever 21 or JC Penny. It's an adult store, for adults with a raunchy sense of humor and has a parental advisory sticker on the front window. The adult toys, games, and lingerie are located in the furthest back right hand corner of this particular store (they moved 2 stores down and remodeled), and though by no means hidden, are not located on a shelf in the front of the store to assault the senses of unaware shoppers. One would have to traverse through a sea of F-bomb dropping material before reaching the soft core merchandise at the back, which would probably be a cue that this store might not be for someone easily offended, as kind of road signs stating "Turn back now!". Teens are attracted to naughty things, this is no secret, but getting up close and personal with strictly adult material is prohibited by the staff. They shoo gaggles of awkward teeny boppers out of the back of the store frequently. The staff is great, they know how to have fun and do whatever it takes to make you apart of the Spencer's vibe. They're super knowledgeable about like every product in the store, even on how the magic smoke works in the joke section, and are really helpful in picking out stuff for bad a## parties. The reviews on this place should be about service, not necessarily personal taste towards it's products, because if you like it, you LOVE it, and if you dislike it, you HATE it. For the same price I recieved twice the items and shipping was only $10 with coupon code, and came in 2 days. Spencer Gifts is like some sort of punk rebellious boutique shop for the promiscuous teenager/young adult. Granted, they have some neat stuff, especially during non-traditional holiday seasons where you can get a lot for pretty cheap (valentines, st. patricks, etc.). Customer service is ok and varies from employee to employee. Prices range from good to ridiculous. It's really just all over the place here. I honestly don't even know what identity Spencers is trying to go for anymore. Overall, Spencers is a the place you shop depending on what your planning to get. If you're looking for something silly, neat, different and/or fun to own/wear, then I'd suggest checking it out. If you're looking for something more common and modern, move along. read more

I've been going to Spencer's since I was a kid and have always had a pleasant experience, however, I'm not happy with trying to make a return for the first time. I bought two pairs of socks and a watch. Never did the cashier who helped me or the receipt or anywhere else state that watches cannot be returned when I bought it. Also, I did take the tag off the sock to try one on but kept everything and couldn't return it despite being so tight at the opening that i can't put it on. My foot isnt oddly big so idk what's going on there but they wouldnt accept it for being open. When I told the guy that it doesn't seem right that i can't return something that doesn't fit and was not made aware of the policy about the socks or electronics, he said that all the staff know. Well ok, great. The staff know but I'm not staff and what good does that do me if the policy isn't communicated to the customer. He said nothing. Would only refund the socks I didn't try on at the lesser price. I will definitely be contacting customer service about their policy and this man doing the return in particular. read more
