It's unfortunate I paid her for legal services in December 2021 and she has been unresponsive to texts, messages, calls and emails. Six months later and hundreds of attempts she still in not responding. The lawyer office she works out of says she's still there but is never in when I drop by. I finally tracked her down on Facebook just trying to reach her some other way. It took over six months before she submitted my paperwork to the court. Under no circumstance utilize Patricia for your divorce filing. None! I don't care if you are trying to pinch pennies. Do not use her. It will end up costing you more in the long run as she does not file all the necessary paperwork on time. To top it off she has zero follow up. And good luck getting a hold of her after you've handed her your check. She becomes a mythical creature. One that you only wish to find so that you can give her the medusa death stare. My husband (I must refer to him as such as our divorce is _still _not finalized) and I filed our papers on June 26th, 2015. We should have been divorced by December, 2015. But. We are still not. Why? Because Patricia didn't file an important document and to top it off never followed up with the courts. We didn't find this out sadly until December 13th. Since then she finally got it in by December 21st, but the court is telling me not until December 28th. All I have asked of her is to keep me up to date. A simple request really. But one that apparently she is incapable of doing. So fine, I will call and follow up. Except she never-ever answers her phone! I decided to utilize her based on a friend's recommendation. I've never been burnt before by a referral. Sadly. This time it is costing me my sanity and has put a rift between my hopefully soon to be ex and I. She turned CA's 6 month cool down period into my ex and I wanting to choke each other from the stress of not being able to move on with our respective lives. The court is telling us two more months but possibly longer due to the missing paperwork. We are trying to work it so that it doesn't affect us emotionally, but due to me not being able to obtain medical insurance at a rate I can afford it is putting undo stress on us. If you are smart then you will listen to me and NOT utilize her. This is my first ever negative Yelp review. I don't like to use this service to be negative. I feel that generally people are much quicker to complain than compliment. I am a strong believer in compliments and really don't like putting a review like this out there. But in case of Patricia I had to make an exception in hopes to save someone else from making an already stressful situation into something more stressful. read more

I can not express how much of a life saver she has been. I had no one to turn to because of my very unique situation. She is very prompt and thorough. She knows her stuff too. If she doesn't know something, she doesn't just wing it just to give me an answer. She does her research and is straightforward. There is no "FINE PRINT" when it comes to her rates either. I would have to agree with the other negative reviews here. She worked on a guardianship for us awhile back. We provided all requested information and documentation within days of first meeting We had a timeline, and when I hadn't heard back from her, I called many times and left messages. My calls were not returned. I showed up at the office and got some excuse. I finally consulted BBB, and they said I could make a complaint. I left message saying that if our service was not completed by a certain time, I was making a BBB complaint. This seemed to do the trick, and our service was finally completed, albeit months after the promised date. Found out in court documents later that she hadn't even filed the initial court paperwork until I threatened the BBB complaint. read more

Does not return phone calls, does not reply to emails. Took weeks to prepare documents instead of promised 3-5 business days. Once docs were signed took over a MONTH to file them with the court. The financial advantages of choosing this type of service are far outweighed by the lack of professionalism & common courtesy displayed. If you're considering Speer Documents, godspeed my friend. I agree with the rest of the other negative Nancy's here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I've sadly had to start my process over with a new document specialist, and am SO mad at myself for giving this woman too much of a benefit of the doubt. I started services with Patricia since 05/17, and by now, if everything had been done CORRECTLY, and on time, my divorce would be on it's way to completion. This woman has done the bare minimum since I've handed her my money! Her follow up game is WEAK AF. Good luck in getting a text or call back from this woman. You have more luck waiting on hold with the IRS (at least you speak to someone eventually) I finally had enough of waiting, and was tired of the run around. The new person I found, helped me review her work, and what she had done via the Alameda court site. (Sadly I wasn't aware that I could look this up myself) Anyway, I found that my initial application was dated 05/17, in which that was when we started this whole thing. Money was paid, only to come find out she didn't even file my papers with the court until AUGUST 2017?! WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE DOING FOR THREE MONTHS? I was livid. She had told me that the court 'lost' my papers, and that she had to re-file herself? WHAT? Courts do not LOSE documents! SMH. I also came to find out it took her another 4 months to get my publication summons going. That's 7 whole months of nothing happening? You could only imagine how frustrated I was feeling. In the timeline of the events, she not only filed something wrong, but it took her months in between to re-file whatever she needed to. I also came to find out, she signed my name on a certain paper that I had ZERO knowledge of. It was the declaration for my publication to get it going, but I was never informed she was going to SIGN my own name. At this point, I was advised to try and get whatever money back I could, plus bring up the fact that her signing my name is fraud! I immediately called her, and to my surprise, she answered! I informed her of all my findings, and she surprisingly could not argue this one out. However, she kept to her court losing papers excuse, and that she understands what it LOOKS like, but that it's not what actually happened. She held on to the fact that I gave her the green light to sign my name to the declaration. Don't you think if I gave the green light, that I wouldn't be as mad if that was true? Please. She offered to refund me her fees, and that she would finish my work with no further money asked. HELL TO THE NAH NAH. So you can take another 7 months of doing NOTHING? Girl, bye. I threatened to go to the BBB, and court for the alleged signature. This was the only reason why I believe she even offered me the refund. Of course I couldn't get back the court filing fees which is OK, but everything else needed to come back in my wallet. So at least she did that. Which rightfully she should do so! Now, I have to pay this new person to re-file my publication, and pay new fees. Thank god I found someone who was understanding, helpful, and ON TOP of his stuff!! And he gave me a slight break in price because of all of this. I am still so mad inside that by now, I could have been done, and that chapter of my life closed. Now I have to start over, and wait another 6-8 months :( At least I found out now right? You're lucky Yelp requires one star, because if I could give nothing, like you gave nothing, I would. In December, 2011, as executor of my father's living trust, I hired Patricia Speer to handle probate for me. Like almost all previous posters here, I quickly ran into serious problems with her. The main problem is that she outright lies to you- she lies to your face, lies to you over the phone and lies to you in emails. In my particular case, she lied about everything- the status of my case, how long it might take, what the costs would be. And that's just when I was able to reach her on the phone or many, many weeks later when she would finally answer an email. She has incredible excuses for not getting back to you in a timely manner. Because I live in Massachusetts, I did expect some issues/delays with probate. What I didn't expect was that my legal representative might lie to me and steal from me. To make a long story short, I discovered that after initiating probate and cashing my check to her for her "services", she did no further work on my case. She lied to me for a year and three months, when I finally realized what a sham she is and hired an attorney. The happy ending to my story is that there are very good attorneys in Tracy and my probate has now been completed. NEVER hire Patricia Speer for ANY legal services. In my opinion, she is incompetent and worse, unethical. I would definitely take her to small claims court for theft if I didn't live 3000 miles away. I wish I had thought to check yelp before hiring her and hope my post prevents others from ever hiring her for any legal work. read more

I have had very good experience with Speer Documents ranging from divorce to QDRO to modifications. Her prices are reasonable, she's very knowledgeable about the court system and has helped me to understand the paperwork. If something didn't go through the first time, she figures it out and resubmits. It's a waiting game regardless of which side of the desk you are on. I paid over $200 for paperwork to be done with the promise of a court date being much faster than if I went through child support services. SEVEN months later the papers were returned because they were missing information. FIVE months later I am still waiting. Like others have said she doesn't return phone calls or messages. Ive used this service for my divorce as well as a couple other things. It's hit and miss. First of all there is only ONE person that works here and that is Patricia herself. She NEVER answers the phone and takes days to return any voicemails. My Divorce lasted TWO months than it should've because she forgot to send in the paperwork!! she provides NO follow up what so ever. She did my divorce with no issues, however I have been trying since 2009 to file a stipulation and she not only has had that document destroyed but she is not returning ANY phone calls or emails. I am now asking for my money back since that document did not belong to her to have destroyed and I can have it completed with someone else. read more

Documents provided to me for release of guardianship where incomplete with false information in them. sent information to her by mail to fix errors in document , still had errors and where incomplete . who signs incomplete legal documents. All I can tell you is to go someplace else. In the end the work I paid her for dragged out for over a year. She had told me 3 months for some of this. The work had to be redone multiple times because it was not filed out correctly. This was for deeds, marital settlements, and QDROs. It took so long that I decided to quit her and not even bother to get my money back because I was so frustrated with her. She does NOT reply phone calls, did not show up for meetings. She cost me so much money because she was so late at every deadline. I paid her in cash or checks which was a real mistake. If you decide to pay her for some work, I beg you to use your credit card. Once she does not finish the work you can call your credit card and tell them to cancel the charge for not rendering services. At least this way you will not have lost your money, you will have wasted your time though. read more
