I was in Somerset for a quick visit and decided to stop in for a quick bite. The street tacos were fair very little flavor and the corn was fine but nothing to write home about. Speedy Taco is a family owned business that doesn't serve alcohol and closes on Sundays. They have plenty of seating within the restaurant and they offer a salsa bar! That was pretty exciting to this salsa lover. My favorite of the assortment was the red salsa, but it was fun to try others. I ordered three Mexican style tacos that were covered with onion and cilantro. I had both pork options and one chicken. The taco with the shredded pork was my favorite!! Although I enjoyed them all. Hubby ordered beef Burrito Mexicano. It was stuffed with beans and rice along with the beef. It was huge and he was so full after!! He really liked it. We highly suggest a visit here if in the area. We wish it was close to our house as we would be regular customers. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! When you walk in, you'll notice it's your typical Mexican restaurant, with the smells of Hispanic spices tingling your nose and choice music playing on the radio. As you are seated you'll need to remember that they do not bring the chips and salsa to you.. instead there is a bar with unlimited chips and about 6 different salsas with varying heat range. The menu has a decent amount of choices most falling within the stereotypical Mexican cuisine items. I chose the Fajita Nachos mixed which tends to be one of my go to's. The steak and chicken were both flavorful, tender, and juicy. The rest of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, and on a side note my family loved their item choices as well. The place is now open serving breakfast, but we were too late to evaluate it. They only serve from 7 am to 12 pm. The staff is friend and nice and were wiling to answer any questions about the menu. Of course as the name implies Tacos are the main focus, but we have had Cameron, al pastor all were good and hot. Their fried ice cream is some what lacking, more cinnamon and sugar on the shells and it is bit small for the price. read more

AMAZING! I've been wanting to try Speedy Taco for a while but just recently got around to it. I'm so sad it took me this long to try because it was AWESOME! Somerset has no shortage of Mexican restaurants - and many are really good, but Speedy Taco is the best. I went with three friends who were also first-timers and they agreed. The salsa bar is great! It's self-serve and you can pick as many salsas as your heart desires. Mix and match all different spice levels and get as many refills as you like. The cheese dip was great and the guacamole was so fresh and chunky. I had the fajitas. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the vegetables were the perfect texture. The tortillas were soft and stretchy - they tasted home made. I'll definitely be back! read more

The last time we were there was about 3-4 months ago.Our last visit was when we were going weekly almost.The food was great, food came quickly, the waitress always smiled. Completely different this time.They did away with taco tuesday, tacos have literally double in price. The food came very slowly, the al pastor was my favorite, now is about the worst al pastor I have ever had.The refried beans have been watered down. Even the sauces taste different.I had to grab extra napkins off another table, the one each we were given was not enough. On top of all that,the familiar faces were gone, and the waitress did not seem to like us,I think I know why. Sad to see this.We loved Speedy Taco, BUT this will be our last visit. Maybe at some point , we may go back to see if they get back to what they once were. Cutting corners like that IS going to lose them customers. Other places we can go. read more

Amazing!!! I'm so blown away to find a spot like this in KY. The meats and sauces are up to par or better than my favorite taco carts in LA. I had five of the Mexican tacos: asada, al pastor, cabeza, lengua and chorizo. The asada (steak) was decent but not memorable, it's pretty much grilled cubed steak, but it's a safe bet if you're not too adventurous. But be bold folks!! Get the other four types above and do yourself a favor and don't look up the translations. Top them with a little salsa, squeeze some lime and you're good to go! Congratulations, you've now set the bar unseemingly high for every future Mexican restaurant. These folks deserve all the praise though, this place is authentic, clean and affordable. Also, they have free self-serve chips and salsa with a variety of salsas as well, definitely try a little bit on a chip first before you top one of your tacos. Cleanliness was an issue for me at my last visit. Food was great and service was also but almost lost my food when I noticed what an older worker was doing with the chip baskets. She was taking them directly from the table after a family was leaving tossing what is left over then putting them directly back on the bar. I know there is a liner in it, but they still need to be sanitized before going back on the bar. How many hands were just digging in that basket that they failed to clean after? read more

I have ZERO reservations giving this little shop on Somerset's south side a five star review! Wonderful! Now I love Mexican food, I really do, but this place is hands down the best I've had in a long time. I ordered four tacos (American style because I like flour tortillas and no cilantro). I figured I'd try as many as I could eat. So I went with one of each, chorizo, asada, pollo, and al pastor. People, these tacos were the real deal. Top notch and just like you'd get south of the border, except I did mine gringo style. But that's a choice you have to make. And with all that bragging I haven't even mentioned the buffet style salsa bar! And if you want to win me over, feed me salsa! And all theirs was excellent. I ended up mixing the hot and the tomato mild for just the right combination of flavors to have me going back for thirds! Salsa bar people! The tacos are stupid good here. The chip bar is pretty cool too. ( self serve ) with 8 salsa options. They also have the pickled jalapeños and carrots which I love. Small, yet good selection of mexican sodas. Service is unpredictable. It's been great then it's also been awkward. Oh well... It's not a pretentious place, so I don't really care about that. Decided to finally try Speedy Taco. Ordered a take out order that was done very quickly. Service was nice and they made sure the order was ready and correct before we drove home. Daughter ordered the Steak, Lengua and Cabeza tacos Mexican style (corn tortilla with cilantro, onion and lime). They were great! Meat was thoroughly cooked and the well seasoned. Wife ordered the cheese dip (the container leaked slightly but the cheese was good) and the chicken nachos which were great as well. She said the chicken was moist and well seasoned. I ordered a Chorizo taco, Mexican style. It was real chorizo (some claim to have Chorizo and it is just hot pork sausage) and it was great with the lime on top. Also had the Gude Chicken Burritos. Very tasty. The best part is if you order something you don't get six tons of beans and rice with it. The entree is the star of your meal and it was good. Cost is reasonable and slightly lower than the competition but the food exceeds expectations. I would recommend a Speedy Taco to anybody who wants some real honest to God Mexican food, not these places that "Americanize" Mexican food. (By the way, you can get the tacos "American" style with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, but why ruin a perfectly good taco?) read more

I arrived 450pm on Sunday. I could tell from employees something was wrong.... then I realized they were cleaning and close at 5pm. Thankfully the sat is and served us. The chips from the bar were stale and hard.. but all the sauces were great! Absolutely great! 5 customers arrived at 505pm and the staff turned them away..(I am a restaraunt owner and I would never do that to a customer) but I understand why they did it. This spot is south of town, so it doesn't get as much traffic unless people know it's there. I grew up in South Texas and have had Mexican and Tex Mex around the country, and I really enjoyed Speedy Taco. One of the best hidden gems in Somerset. I live on the north end of town so I'm seldom this far south but ever since we found out about this place, we have been south more often. If you are craving "authentic" Mexican food, this is the place to go. I would definitely recommend eating inside so you can try the salsa bar. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly and go the extra mile to make sure you have a pleasant experience. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little pricey for the portion size. If they would either increase the portion size or lower cost, it would definitely get 5 stars from me. read more

Authentic Mexican for a very reasonable price. I asked her a side of guacamole and I got a bowl full. I had the lunch special of enchilada taco and rice and it all tastes like I'm in Mexico and very flavorful. When you walk in you can help yourself to warm corn chips with a variety of different sauces. Very friendly staff. This just became my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I don't drink soda so when I go out to eat I always order either water or tea. Last time I tried their tea it tasted old so I order water. They charged me to a glass of tap water. I decided to brush it off and tried the place again. This time I tried the tea again. My husband got a soda. He drinks a lot. He told the server if they would bring two sodas it would save them from having to refill it so soon. Refills are free. They charged him for two sodas. read more

This is by far the best Mexican food in Somerset. Perhaps the best in the state. (I don't know this for sure, as I haven't eaten at all of Kentucky's Mexican restaurants). I highly recommend the chorizo, lengua and cabeza tacos. The self-service chip/salsa bar is a huge turn-on. But be careful with the "very hot" salsas. They are so amazingly wonderful, but they come with a relatively painful exit wound, if you are picking up what I'm laying down. This is a "must-eat-at" restaurant in Somerset. Have eaten hear four times. The prices are not to bad, maybe a little high. The food tastes fine. Have to get your own chips and salsa though. Food order has never been correct. Servers are not real personable. No need to go back again. First time here we waited 45 minutes for our food. They did give us a $5 discount without us even asking. read more
