Here's the latest and greatest vendor list from 2023: Timber Pizza - Scrumptious wood-fired pizza with a pillowy soft crust. I can't count on how many fingers and toes I've had the pizza at different farmer's markets! While the lines can get long 12:30pm, you only have to wait for 15 minutes. Taco Dirty To Me: Crispy battered cauliflower tempura tacos, bursting with flavor! Bun'd' Up - Delicious fried tofu and mushroom in squishy soft bao buns topped with microgreens, scallions, and a nice creamy aioli sauce. Light and tasty! Urban+ade - Refreshing lemonade with less sugar than classic lemonade. The Sage & Tarragon is my favorite! Veg Heaven - Decadent sweet treats, the dark chocolate cookies and brownies are the best! While the cakes are moist, they aren't as tasty. Taco Loco - Giant burritos are amazing! There's a swarm of people waiting in line, so be prepared to wait 10-15 min before ordering and then another 5 min for your order! The mango and watermelon juice are refreshing. Hipp Sippin' - Cold-pressed juices and acai bowls made to order. Ravenhook Bakery - Great selection of freshly baked loaves of bread and baked goods. DMV Empanadas - They sell out fast! While the empanadas has a nice crispy hard shell and with so many flavors to choose from, they are a bit bland and overloaded with bland cheese. The Spinach and Cheese or the Bacon and Cheese didn't quite hit the spot, hubby like the Chicken. Al Volo Cucina: While I wasn't a big fan of the greasy eggplant parm subs. I wish they brought back the fresh juices (the watermelon and mango juices) were amazing! Wonderful market with plenty of delicious and diverse options to choose from. Lines start to form between 12:30-1pm, come early!

The kimchee is either cabbage and cucumber, and comes in small (a little bigger than a deck of cards $3) or large (the size of a day planner, approx 8.5"x5" $6) Plus, the couple who runs the place is so nice and helpful, and super quick! Sometimes the lady gives me a sample of freshly made kimchee if she's cooking in the back which is mmm :) And the bulgogi ($6/lb I believe) is amazing. Foolproof, and an easy way to pretend that you're an impressive cook. These guys are the first produce section inside when you're coming to Eastern Market from the metro. They always have beautiful displays of a good selection of fruits and veggies (prices are a little on the steeper side in general, but that's Eastern Market for you). I usually swing by here if I need a last minute lemon/garlic/parsnip/leek/etc after work, but I usually shy away from it on weekends when it's packed. Also, veggies/fruits in season are reasonably priced here and better quality than what you would find at Harris Teeter or Safeway. They also have a mini-grocery with staples and sauces. If you have no car and can't get out to H mart or Wegman's, this place has a good selection of Asian cooking sauces. Lentils were $3/bag here though, so I would stay away from other cheap staples unless absolutely necessary. Tip: Make sure to bring your reusable bag so they don't charge that new DC bag tax (they're strict at this place). Yes, you will get a banana and be expected to either hold it or bring your own bag. Location: the most Southern end of the South Hall. Also labeled as Paik's produce, and right next to Fine Sweet Shop.

We had spent 30 minutes wandering the market but quickly realized what a terrible idea that is on an empty stomach. After selecting a few stalks of their crisp, red rhubarb, while at the register we began eying the large, fresh-looking to-go containers of bibimbap, including a big scoop of white rice and a wide array of sauteed and fresh vegetables - one came with tofu (my selection) and the other option with beef (my husband's choice). Each lunch portion was $6.99. Both were delicious and refreshing. The accompanying chili paste had just the right amount of heat. We both finished our entire meals (and one fresh-squeeze raspberry lemonade from another vendor outside) sitting in the shade in the small square out back. Exactly what I was looking for for Saturday lunch.

Everything you see in the picture is From The Farmer!! From the tomatillos to the black radishes…read moreand everything in between. My family has tried various online "fresh food" companies, pre-made meal, you name it and they were just ok... usually the food did not last and was mediocre at best. We love our local famers market but even with our good intentions, we rarely made it on time. When my hubs stumbled upon FTF I was skeptical but really liked the idea of delivery, subscriptions and ala cart options and loved supporting our local farmers and businesses so we gave it a try. Here we are two yrs later and we still LOVE it! The fruits and veggies are so fresh that they typically arrive still covered in soil... this is actually our families favorite part! After about 6 months of receiving the subscriptions, we started ordering ala cart items and for the last year or so we've been getting about 75% of our weekly food from FTF. The meats, bakery, dairy and pantry items are all great! FTF is also not like a CSA where you tend to get the same items week after week. They have variety and this makes it fun for the whole family. We've received items that either we would never have chosen or had never eaten and we love it. If you are a meal planner than FTF is a wonderful option bc you get an email of the items that will come the following week and you have plenty of time to plan accordingly. The recipes and storage tips they provide are a great touch too. If you are traveling then it's super easy to suspend the service for as long as needed. Now, are they perfect, no however they do a darn good job fixing mistakes and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Sometimes there are missing or unavailable items and we will either receive a credit for or will get a little extra of another item. Personally, we would rather get that credit or extra item then a subpar product that would end up in the trash. There is a lot of talk in the reviews about the surprise email halting delivery to re-vamp and let me tell you, we were SAD... so sad but they worked hard to get back online and we were super excited to receive an email a week later announcing they were back up and running. Dealing with the logistics of fresh foods and delivery to the (very large) Balt-Wash area can not be easy, fresh food is very temperamental. The best part of it all... our 5yo son gets super excited to see the "red bags" on our front porch every week and he's learning about fresh foods and how important it is to support our local farmers. Thank you FTF! Keep it up :)

Then, the next 10 weekends are just to hard to get out of bed and down there in time?? Yes? Well then just have From the Farmer deliver those groceries to your door? You heard me....YOUR DOOR!! You just wake up on a Friday morning and there is this cool basket stuffed with produce picked at a local farm....maybe even some cheese in there made locally! Small batch jam is your thing.....I GOT THAT IN MY BASKET TOOOOO, along with fresh baked bread, one week I got pasta sauce!!!!!! If all my capital letters and exclamation marks weren't enough to convince you to give this product a try, let's just say that I've heard horror stories of other "organic" or local-based CSA deliveries. I don't have time or money for shriveled and half rotten fruits and veggies! I also want to help support my local economy and keep my carbon foot-print as low as possible (heaven knows I waste enough glass products on my mimosa weekend brunches....and hence can't make it to the Farmers Market.....do you see the cyclic scenario here?)! Professional and reliable, great products, helpful website and Facebook page! This product is legit! Give local a try. Small basket options for people who don't need to much run about $45 a week, and a larger basket to feed the whole family are about $70. Stay seasonal, eat local, be happy, be healthy! The selection feels curated; some local brands, some higher end things for special dietary needs. Prices can be high; I got some beverages on sale. This location is on the smaller end, and I found a few useful things but not a great selection. I was puzzled by the fact that only a couple of blocks away on U Street, I saw another Streets under construction that looked bigger. One might assume that this one is moving over there, but research suggests to me that both will be open at the same time, which is a bit odd. My guess is that the other one will be more worthwhile when it opens, but this one is good for a quick stop now and then.

I'd walk there most Sundays, buying breakfast from the man who made fried chicken and biscuits. Then I'd stop and visit with Mrs. Calomiris. I called her, "Mrs." because it wouldn't have occurred to me to call her "Maria," and "Mamma" never seemed to offer the respect I wished to convey. She was smart and funny, and entertaining to watch as she gently promoted her customers into buying her beautiful produce. But most notably, Mrs. Calomiris was kind. On more than one occasion, she held overripe tomatoes for me until she had a good basketful, then called me to pick them up. I'd blanch, peel and seed them, then make sauce. A cook herself, Mrs. Calomiris approved of this old-school approach, and so was happy to help. As she did for everyone, when I came to get my basket, she always handed me a banana or a nice apple, something for lagniappe. And once, as I stood in front of Mrs. Calomiris' stall eating an apple she'd just sold me, she asked how it was; I said it wasn't bad, but that it wasn't quite ready, and that tiny woman reached up and took the apple from my hand as I was biting into it, in order to swap it for one that I'd like more. My family is Arab, immigrants to the DC area in the late '50's, so the enthusiastic hospitality I always received from Mrs. Calomiris was familiar. Except for her accent, she might have been one of my aunts. Maria Calomiris died of cancer in 2015, working at the Market until a few weeks before her death, having seen her husband, Chris, pass, just a few years earlier. The community and the City are the worse for these losses. But even several thousand miles away, Mrs. Calomiris' memory endures.

It can be a little pricey here, but the quality is usually superb. I also just adore that giant old fashioned gold register they use :) They also have a wide selection of dried fruit and nuts. Right next to the picture of a praying Mary of course. Don't forget to pay tribute to the legendary Eastern Market matriarch Maria Calomiris; she will usually stick an extra piece of fruit into your bag if she recognizes you ...and maybe even if she doesn't. Dear reader, Nalls…read moreProduce on Beulah Street is especially delightful during the fall festivities. They have seemingly every pumpkin and gourd one could imagine, from the perfectly round classics to the wonderfully odd little varieties that look destined for a harvest-themed centrepiece. Beyond the pumpkins, they have loads of fresh produce, prepared foods, snacks, and products from local companies. It genuinely feels like you could walk in with no dinner plan whatsoever and leave with everything needed to cook an entire meal. When I arrived, the first two people I encountered provided positive customer service, including taking me to the location where the locally-sourced honey is situated in the store (not just pointing to the general area). I really appreciated that. The other thing I found helpful was that when a team member didn't have an answer to my question, they were willing to defer to a team member who had more knowledge about what I was looking for. This is where Veronica or Victoria (I'm not quite sure of her name, other than the fact that it begin with a V) comes into frame. She provided really good and useful information in addition to asking really good questions. She also seemed to be sympathetic to the fact that I was not feeling well and was looking for something to help in the healing process. We need more of this in the world. Care and concern for humankind seems to be lacking here lately. If you are looking for locally-sourced honey and you live or work in VA, don't hesitate to stop by Nalls Produce! Happy shopping! Oops! One more note ; I'm not too sure Nalls is located in Alexandria as it states when you visit the website. After completing a pretty long day at work in Arlington, I didn't think a drive out to Alexandria (after primary rush time), would be so bad. But, the drive was a little further than expected. Because I'm not a Virginia native, I could be incorrect in my thought process. But Nalls Produce is not located in Alexandria, it is located in Franconia. That's not even Alexandria County...it's actually Fairfax County. Either way, it was worth the drive because I was able to find what I was looking for. However, had I known the drive would take it as long as it did, I would've probably done it on an early Saturday morning and spent a little more time to explore all of the other interesting items I saw. By the way, it looks like they do a monthly newsletter that highlights some great information for the upcoming month.
