I asked to get medium "faux locs" for 4/29 a few weeks prior, and I sent the example picture of what I wanted. The owner sent me a text back saying that they could do "faux locs" and sent a pic showing an example of the locs that they've done. I said that those were cute and asked how much the locs were, and the owner told me it was $220 (braiding hair and washing not included). The braider that was going to do my hair asked me to come an hour earlier on the day of the appointment, so I did. When I got there, she wasn't there, and she came 10-15 minutes later.
Next, the braider does one loc and asks me if the length is fine (when I see it, it looks like the size I want them to be and I didn't notice any issues then, so I told her to I proceed. She's on&off the phone the whole appt, but does my whole head and then once she's done, she doesn't show me in the handheld mirror, so I get up and asked how to pay (you don't directly pay the braider, you pay the owner), so I paid and left. When I get in my car, I notice that they look kind of large and lumpy, and I considered going back in to ask about this, but it was getting late, so I decided I'll contact the owner the following day.
When I get home and got a full look at the locs hair, I can see that they are very big and stiff, they are uneven, and my hair is showing through a few of them, and she did "butterfly locs" instead of the regular locs I asked for.
The next morning, I also noticed that some of them were unraveling, so I definitely was annoyed at this point. I contacted the owner the next morning asking if I can come back in for them to be fixed and she tells me that she has to talk to the braider to see if she can fix them. She also said that my "faux locs" were that thick and stiff because I "have a lot of hair". After thinking about it more, I had a feeling that they weren't going to fix it to what I wanted, so I also asked if it was possible to change the hairstyle into box braids but use the same parts and hair. She said they can't use the same hair and that it would be a redo, and she would charge me half price for it. When she said it would cost $120, I declined, then I sent another faux loc picture and asked if the braider could just make my locs smaller and make them look like the picture I sent.
The owner again said that that would be a different hairstyle and implied that I'd be paying for that change because that's not the "butterfly locs" that I asked for. I didn't ask for butterfly locs, I asked for regular "faux locs" and that's what I expected to get. The owner says that I agreed to do the locs in the picture that she sent me, but that's not what I meant when I said I wanted faux locs. Either way, the faux locs that their shop claims to have done in the picture/what I was shown prior to the appointment is NOT what I received at all, and that is obvious.
At this point, I asked for a partial refund (I wanted half my money back) because they did still do a service, but the service that I was promised was not done and whatever the braider did was not done well. So, the owner says that they don't "usually" offer refunds (which isn't true b/c I've seen other reviews where the owner refunds people their money), and that she'd only give me back $50 because of the unraveling... not the lackluster faux locs the braider did that I didn't ask for. She kept insisting that the size was because of the amount of hair I have. So I asked one more time, that if I came for it to be fixed, would the braider at least make the locs smaller and remove those lumps/make them smoother, and if she can't would I really only get a $50 refund. The owner said yes, so I decided to fix my own hair and take it up with Zelle because this service was unacceptable.
Now, I understand that I definitely should have actually taken a good look at my head and said something before I left, but I THOUGHT my hair was going to look at least decent because this SAME BRAIDER gave me box braids in the past, but clearly I was wrong.
I will not be going back to this place. read more
