The breakfast focaccia was delicious - it had cheese, chili crisp, and a hard boiled egg inside. We also added some bacon. I really liked this and it was great to split for a light breakfast snack. They also have other breakfast items and lunch food. There are bookshelves full of used books for sale. The space seems very community-forward and I think I'd be a regular here if I lived nearby.

I started with an espresso martini before my Benedict Your Way with smoked salmon, and it was so good that I had to have another one after my meal! Smooth, delicious, and the perfect way to bookend a great breakfast. And then there was the Benedict. I substituted the English muffin for a biscuit, added smoked salmon, and asked for extra hollandaise. Life changing. The biscuit was such a delicious upgrade with the smoked salmon, eggs, and that rich, creamy hollandaise. I honestly didn't want the meal to end. But the real finale was the crème brûlée. Absolutely perfect. The caramelized sugar on top had that beautiful crisp crack when I broke into it, while the custard underneath was silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, just rich enough, and the contrast between the delicate caramelized topping and smooth custard was exactly what a great crème brûlée should be. Paired with my last espresso martini, it was an incredibly satisfying way to finish the meal. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'd love to see a few more vegetarian and pescatarian options on the menu. Otherwise, Ellie's is a lovely place with genuinely friendly people, great food and drinks, and that warm Yellow Springs charm. I'm happy to support them and will definitely be back!

There was no line, and he had been standing inside looking at the baguettes for a few minutes, by himself. Two staff members came out from the back and did not acknowledge him. A white woman then entered the store and was immediately greeted with "Can I help you?" My husband had clearly been there first. When he calmly questioned whether they intended to skip over him, he was met with defensiveness and told not to speak to the employee's daughter that way -- despite not raising his voice or being disrespectful. Being ignored and then treated as though he had done something wrong for asserting his place in line felt dismissive and uncomfortable. As Black customers, experiences like this are not minor. We value businesses that treat all customers with equal acknowledgment and respect. Unfortunately, this interaction has caused us to reconsider returning. We hope ownership takes this feedback seriously and ensures that all guests are welcomed consistently and fairly.

I also ended up trying a canned seltzer that they had (not their own), which was very tasty and not a brand we get in Michigan. The space is open and decent sized, and they have plenty of outdoor seating too. There's a shelf of board games that you can play while enjoying your drinks. They don't serve food but they do have chips and pretzels to buy. I love a good brewery and this one was fun to check out.

While both Grace and Emily provided outstanding customer service, the issues with the ice cream unfortunately put a damper on the end of our visit. As visitors from Oregon, we were excited to compare the experience to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. The visit started off wonderfully thanks to your staff, but the ending left us disappointed.
