Thankfully, it was only 10 minutes away, so my mom and I hopped in the car to try it out. Drip and Culture is located in the back of Supermercado Gonzalez. It's not rare for Mexican grocery stores in the area to sell hot food in the back of the store, but it was very unique to find this super cute, black-owned coffee shop located right in the back. After looking over the menu, I decided on the Ube Matcha and my mom chose the Banana Rum Caramel Latte! Both drinks were a 10/10!!! My drink had an Ube horchata base, which tasted like the perfect mix of vanilla and cinnamon. It was absolutely amazing and paired perfectly with the matcha!!! My mom thoroughly enjoyed her latte as well! Next time I'm in town, Drip and Culture will be my first stop. The shop has a 90s theme with jerseys on the wall and VHS tapes, which gives such a nostalgic vibe. I can't wait to return!!!

I passed through Waukegan early on a Sunday morning. I was a little skeptical just looking at their…read morepastries and having my mind set on donuts wasn't helping. I left with a cinnamon roll donut and a apple danish. I was loving the donut as I ate it while driving to my destination. The sweetness, texture, moistness, and cinnamon flavor was all there. I could have ate a couple more. The next day I ate the apple danish. It held up nicely a day later and wasn't all dried out. It was reminiscent of the apple danishes that McDonalds used to sell years ago, but 10x better. The apple filling was a sweet delight that i can rarely find. I really enjoyed the pastries here and everything tasted way better than they looked. If I would have known the goods were going to be great, I would have bought a lot more. To bad I won't be back out that way until next summer.

I want to start by giving a massive shoutout to our hostess, Itzel. She was absolutely wonderful!…read moreEven though our server didn't bother to help us get seated, Itzel completely stepped up. She was incredibly nice, very attentive, and ended up being the one to serve us as well. I'm so glad she helped us out--honestly, she is the only reason we would consider coming back, and we will only return if she is the one serving us! Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was disappointing. Aside from the server being completely unhelpful with seating, the management here is seriously lacking. While we were there, I noticed one of the cashiers getting cussed out by an aggressive customer, It was incredibly uncomfortable to witness, and no employee deserves to be treated like that without their management backing them up. Five stars for Itzel, but management and the rest of the staff really need to step it up.

This SB has good service, good workers, but it doesn't make up for the excessively high prices and lack of environmental responsibility. As I write this I spent a couple of weeks in Europe where espresso is a buck fifty, always made fresh and fresh ground, into proper ceramic espresso cups and saucers and all the workers have full free Healthcare, living wages, and a months paid vacation. I also am not expected to tip (they get paid a living wage). The seating here is mainly for individuals here to get sone work or reading done, it doesn't have the space for friends to chat it up in groups as much as other SBs. Good WiFi.
