I tried shopping at different times of day in the hopes of finding better stock of items. Dairy is inconsistent and a few years back I raised my concern that organic milk was often empty. As of late, milk is scattered and cottage cheese is often barely in stock, and forget about finding Good Culture in stock. This is weird because I found the Target around the corner having 50-60 containers in stock all the time. Produce has gotten messy. Today, only one bunch of leeks remaining and not in good condition. There were barely any bunches of celery with the ones remaining being messy. Parsnips were stark and not labeled. I tried to create a price label at the scale, but you aren't able to search. I asked a worker and he told me he didn't know. Ham was non-existent. I wanted to find the packages of diced ham or a ham steak - none in stock. It's kind of weird because then I see really nice packages of meat going at reduced prices because they haven't sold, and often quite a few packages. So it seems some departments overstock while others never seem to stock. For years I've really liked the store, but they can't seem to keep up with the demand for the population in the area. Sad.

From the sign to the interior, the Foodtown brand has the standard grocery store appearance with the large, easy-to-understand font and discernible color contrast. Shop n Bag brings itself up to speed with technology with their digital food advertisements on the glass wall in the front. I give the Brand score four stars, because the distinction can prove confusing to anyone unfamiliar with Farmingdale. Website: 5/5 Despite the confusion of the brand, the website does function well, with menus that lead you to either the available items or the weekly circular. You do need to specify your Foodtown's specific location if you wish to peruse the item selections of that particular Foodtown brand. Ambiance: 5/5 I do not engage in hyperbole when I say that the ambiance of Shop n Bag saved me. There is just something about the white tiles, the cool interior, the classic rock playing over the radio, and the down-to-earth humdrum of the establishment that always brings a sense of tranquility to me. There is enough space between each aisle, and plenty of space at the deli. There were plenty of sections for fresh fruits and vegetables, along with the meats in the refrigerator aisle. The clearance rack always has new products available, and is situated within the same aisle, ensuring that the cool, dry environment makes sure that the products last a lot longer. The overall food selection I would describe as resembling traditional chain food-stores in a miniature scale. Service: 5/5 The staff in the deli readily accepted my order without any issues. Wait Time: 5/5 Throughout the duration of the wait time, the meat and cheese sliced for a major part. I will say that for a Saturday, the sandwich came quickly without any serious interruptions. Food: 5/5 I ordered the New Jersey Devil Sandwich, which consists of ham, provolone, balsamic vinegar, and sweet peppers. I have to say that just like any other Jersey-based dishes, they have a hearty presentation and the right amount of tangy flavor. Indeed, the balsamic vinegar and sweet peppers bring a tangy flavor to the packed meats, despite having no prior familiarity with them. The ingredients came out fresh without any dryness or sogginess. The fresh bread retained its form throughout the time I ate it. Worth The Money?: 4/5 The food that Shop n Bag offers reflects clearly the ones available on the website with every specific search. The food also reflects the brand of the shop, and New Jersey as a whole, as the New Jersey Devil Sandwich does. Indeed, such a devilish treat encapsulates New Jersey between two slices of bread. The peruse within the store, looking at the food, can make the ambiance worth it. The staff know how to make their sandwiches, and the wait time matched the finished sandwich perfectly. The ambiance reflects the Foodtown brand perfectly, since the small town grocery store matches the Foodtown motto of "Locally Owned, Family Operated," from the aesthetics to the website itself. The employees match the ambiance with the down-to-earth demeanor. I also found the wait time tolerable within the ambiance of the store. Since it is a grocery store, I would consider this establishment my first choice for any food I need, ranging from ingredients to sandwiches; though I would not be too sure about shopping for the monthly pantry. Jonathan is a friend who inspired me to write reviews here in YelpLand many moons ago and is typically mentioned in these here screeds. Your Host has been a bit lax in the last couple of reviewisms, but it's time to right the ship and include him in this review, especially that he too, is a member of this wholesale club. Your Host has been a member of The Costco for about 30 years. That's a long time, wouldn't you say? Heck, I remember when the location in Edison was originally Price Club! Feeling nostalgic yet? Anyway, it's time to get into the meat of the review, shall we? This place has nearly everything you'd typically find at wholesale clubs, and the selection is great overall. Of course, they stock the name brand items, along with their own brand, Kirkland, which by the way is quite good (their natural peanut butter is great BTW). They carry their own baked goods (baked on premises), meats, seafood, poultry, etc, and the products are quite good as well. Prices overall are decent, and are typically less than the typical supermarket. From what Your Host has observed from his membership here and at their competitor, BJ's, the prices here are a tad less. Some products that Costco carries might not be found at BJ's and vice-versa. Unfortunately Darlings, Your Host does not (yet) have a Sam's membership and is unable to elaborate where they're concerned. There are two pieces of advice that Your Host would like to offer to get the most bang for the buck when it comes to heading out for a wholesale club shopping outing: 1. Know your prices and do the math. You may find you may/may not get a better deal at the supermarket. Yes, you could save yourself some cash-ola buying wholesale but you might save more when your local market runs sales depending on the week. It bears repeating: do your research and the math. 2. Darlings, do NOT lose your head here and buy, buy, buy. A simple shopping trip where you planned to spend a hundo or two can easily tally to $10,537.76 if you don't keep your budget in check and end up buying stuff that you think you need but really don't.
