This is the second car I've had the brakes done by their team. I made a reservation both times and they called to confirm within 1 hour. Michael checked me in today and said they'd get me going right away. Checked out the car which had some noise from the back brakes and said I needed new pad and to resurface the rotors. They were even willing to shuttle me home to Aptos if I'd like. I decided to wait and just as promised, they were completed with the work on time and on price. $230 for rear pads and resurfacing. I also had them do some additional work at their standard rate and it was perfectly completed. The car I took in previously was a 2015 Volvo and it needed pads and new rotors. They were HALF the price of the dealer and the work was performed perfectly. Note a couple of things. Brake inspections start at 9:00 am and if you need rotors replaced, expect that where ever you go, it's going to cost you. The Volvo issue was that both the electrical and physical sensor failed which caused me to need the rotors replaced. Not uncommon for European cars. Make an appointment ahead of time. I went here for a smog check as they're one of the few places open on the weekends. The first time my car failed because a new battery was put in. I was charged $50 and then told to drive it around a few miles and come back the next day. When I asked how many miles needed, they had no idea. I went home to look it up and found out you need to drive a full 100 miles AT LEAST before testing after a new battery is installed. I'm so glad I didn't listen and come back the next day or I'd be out another $50! Oh yea, they don't do free retests like most other places, another huge bummer. When I finally went back and told them it was a retest, the repair guy taking my vehicle info said he'd test it to see if it was ready first... now I wonder, why wouldn't they have done that in the first place to avoid me having to pay multiple times?! The car thankfully passed and I was in and out of there in 20 minutes. Two stars docked for greedy practices, otherwise the second smog was quick and relatively painless. However...I am updating my review since the folks at corporate were so nice...and they DID follow up with me to apologize for the boobs in Watsonville. The regional manager was courteous, kind, and very sorry for my experience. He listened to what happened and told me he was at a loss to explain why the crew there did not honor their own coupon. The regional manager has arranged for me to have a free oil change at a location of my choosing...which was above and beyond the call of duty. To recap. Hopefully the crew in Watsonville have been educated on where Northern California begins and ends...and hopefully the franchise owner at this location will not go out of his way to anger the public that wanders into his business. If I could give zero stars I would. First off I took my car in to get the serpentine belt replaced. I had gone in a few weeks earlier for a smog for my other car and things went fine so I decided to stay in town to get belt replaced. I waited an hour and when the car was done the manager comes over and tells me I need the tensioner replaced... after the car was put back together. So I would have to pay for the same labor on a different day. I was already frustrated because they could've told me as I was waiting and would've said yes. So I came back a few days later to get the tensioner. They took my car in. They replaced tensioner, figured everything was fine. Two days later my car is making the same chirping noise! I take it back in. They ask if I have a receipt???? They have the files and they remember my car??? I did have it. They then told me that since they know they replaced the part correctly. That they didn't have to go back to check it.... no, that's a guarantee they should do. Just double check the work. They then asked me to do a diagnostic check... that's $165, but they could give me a 10% discount after I've literally spent $700 in the last month there??? Just don't even bother going here!!! Went here for about a year and a half but not going to return ever again. Last time I went to get an oil change they messed up my oil pan drain bolt and told me its from my car having 220,000 miles on it that those things happen. Thays not how you strip a bolt. I spoke to the managers and they said that it must have happened at the last place I went to.... which was their shop. When they learned that they said that I could have taken it somewhere else because it didn't happen on that day. They then told me if I pay for the oil pan they'd replace the pan. I agreed only because I wanted to get my car running since i work in the bay and NEED the car. I asked for a quote and they said they would call me. Finally when they called they said they wouldn't install it for free and that id have to pay $350 for their mistake. I asked for corporates number and they said that corporate cant be called by me cause I would bother them so the managers have to take my number and call corporate and ASK corporate to talk to me. That was 2 months ago. 1 month ago my car died and I went to check the oil, no oil inside. I filled it with oil to see if it leaks and no leaks. So safe to say they had someone who didn't know what they were doing work on my car. Didnt even bother calling them to replace the engine since they fought against all evidence to replace an oil pan. When i found it, i called and the gentleman on the phone said, "yes i remember that car because i had to help him do ind where it was at and take it off." They really did check all the fluids, and they topped off my washer fluid. (I checked.) They alerted me that my car requires Dexos oils and even showed me how to remove the cover off my air filter. Since the cost of a new air filter from THEM was less than I pay at the dealer, I bought from them. When I got the bill I notice that the cost of oil is about the same as I pay at the parts store. It is a busy place and I will be coming back for a tire rotation when needed. The reminder they stick on your window for the next visit shows 3,000 miles later. On my old car I would agree, but the cars using synthetic blend oils (like my current car) can do better. Yes, frequent oil changes will make your car last longer. So went here for a simple oil change and everything was going good until they tell me my oil filter cap broke. First they claimed they didn't break it, stating my car is old and parts will eventually break.. funny because that part should withstand 25nm it shouldn't break out of the blue. Next they tried to make me sign right away to pay $110 plus for the part that they broke when removing it. I didn't sign thank God and looked online within 1 min I find the part for $20!!! I tried to tell them to replace the part that obviously was broken because of poor mechanical work and they refused to compensate me. In April I came in for spark plugs and ended up getting a full 90K mile service. Fast forward 3 months and my car won't start. I tow it in to a different Midas location close to my home and they show me that I need spark plugs. They are showing me that the throttle needs to be cleaned and I can see that that spark plugs are obviously old. Basically I paid for a service and parts that I never received and today I am out of work for most the day. I hope that Midas in Watsonville will honor that they made a mistake and just pay for the service I need today, which I had paid for 3 months ago already. I am not even asking for compensation for the 6 hours of missed work and the tow into the shop was covered by my insurance. So disappointed in this shop. UPDATE: Watsonville Midas paid for the new spark plugs I had installed yesterday. They did not cover the $125 diagnostic. Horrible horrible horrible . First of all , the owner should not have his wife working there , she is just plain rude . That is putting it nicely without expletives . When one of the guys said he would install my part for "free" after paying 155 for the diagnostic and part , you could see the look in her eye...she clearly was thinking "i have to talk to him and let him know im not okay with that" They charged me 120 for a diagnostic that took five minutes . They said I needed a connector replaced , but they didn't actually have any other ideas of what it might be . So basically their diagnostic consisted of jumping to the first conclusion they had , and sticking to it . Ridiculous . The last two times I have left there , my check engine light comes on . Now I would hope they wouldn't do anything crazy, but its just a little strange . I told the owners wife and she pretty much just laughed in my face . Well , if your employees are so competent , then maybe I shouldn't have gotten a phone call after my first visit there , from one of the guys asking me if he left his tools under my hood . Umm whats up with that? I went back in two days after I paid that 155 when my check engine light came back on and they quoted me another 120 for a diagnostic, which i found to be completely offensive . I specifically called them before I went to get my oil change on my car (and keep in mind my oil change for my car is very expensive) and asked if they check the coolant in my car the woman on the phone said yes they go out of their way to check all other fluids as well so I decided not to go buy coolant for my car and just take it in when I left I looked at the work order which lists every single thing they did on my car and he coolant was checked off. Then after 3 days my car hood started steaming while I was on my way to work and a few hours later I check the coolant and it was completely empty, they never even checked the coolant wonder what els they said they "checked and topped off" that was never done ?! Took car to get smogged ,was told that I needed to drive my car 30-40miles since I had also gotten a oil change and a additive was added to clean the fuel line. Drove car 40 miles, went back. Was told after it was checked, that it had pass some of the test except one. That I needed to keep driving for 30 more miles. It was closing time,employee told me come back next day to finish testing,after I had paid for it,Went back next day,employees acted like I had never been there.They ended charging me again for testing.I know I should walk away, but my daughter needs a car for school.My suggestion is to get everything in writing,so they won't lie to your face.....very poor customer service.Never again!:( read more

Last week I took my wife's van for a smog check, a very simple task if you will. After waiting for about 25 minutes in their waiting room, a technician came up and told me that there was a problem. He explained that the van had an "air leak on the exhaust" and that it would not pass the smog check. I was concerned about it so I asked what was the next step. This is when I got very suspicious. He told me they would have to run a test and it was about $109.00 dollars, then I would need to have the repairs done before even trying to do the smog. He said he could hear the air leak so he didn't even tried to do the smog. I asked how much the repair would cost and he said it depended of the fix. I told him I would have my mechanic take a look at it, then bring it back once repairs were made. Immediately after, I drove to Gutierrez Auto Repair on Freedom and explained to the mechanic there what I was told. He said he would take look, but that he could not simply hear the problem, also he explained that a problem like that would cause the check engine light to turn on, which was not. Within 30 minutes, I had a smog check certificate on my hands. It was imminent to me that SpeeDee was simply trying to trick me into tests and repairs that were not needed so they could charge me and rip me off. as far as I am concern, the integrity of this place has been questioned several times by other reviewer. I should have known better myself because the last time I went there for a simple oil change, they told me I needed a new air filter; I had just replaced the air filter a week before so when I asked him to show me how dirty it was, he said he had already put it back and did not want to show me. SpeeDee is a rip off and it is sad that they take advantage of their customer in such way. Talking to the management is useless because he would come up with lame excuses to back up his crooked mechanics, as I may imagine he must be getting a good cut off all the scams. I give them 3 stars because I spent almost $700 because they had to replace my transition with a new one, install a new pipe in my car, diagnosed my car that was over $100, oil change, thermostat switch and I know that's probably what I get with what I paid for but I don't really know much about cars, so I guess it came out good, just they're pretty over priced, their service not trash though, just gotta be chill with them. Employee who wrote up service order stated that chassis fittings would be lubricated on my SUV. Later I had to change a flat tire and I noticed that the chassis fittings looked dry when I had the wheel off. I took the vehicle to a real mechanic who confirmed that none of the fourteen lube fittings had been touched. I authorized him to lubricate the chassis and was billed $18.00 labor and $2.50 for the chassis lube. Many cars have sealed fittings which are service free but this particular vehicle, a '95 GMC Jimmy, does not. Everyone with a car with lube fittings should avoid this shop. read more

They wanted to charge almost $90 to do the new diesel car "smog". Basically this is a visual inspection for tail pip soot and plugging in the car to the diagnostics machine to read codes. There is no emissions test with this and it's less work than the regular gasoline one. $90 really? The 76 Station down the street on Freedom did it for $52 and took about 15 minutes! Most other places I called in Freedom and Watsonville also charged about $50 for this service (which included the certificate). Speedee may be speedy, but charge almost 75% more than their competitors won't get them much repeat business. read more

They don't lie when they say speedy!! My car was done and we were on our way within 25 minutes. The reason I wouldn't give them any more stars then 3 though is because the store itself needed some attention. I was the first person of the morning and the bathroom was a mess. It had a new trash bag but no paper towels, a dirty sink, and a broken hand soap dispenser. The floors were dirty within the waiting area and the chairs were torn. It just wasn't a very comfortable 25 minutes. But thankful it wasn't longer! read more
