Mac Auto is a tremendous business. Top notch, no BS technicians, that know their craft. I used to take my Jeep to the Jeep dealer around the corner until they told me they had no idea how to fix a stalling problem. Took it to Mac and they cleared some codes and it's never run better. Took my son's car to Precision Auto in Scott's Valley, they had two chances to fix the car; first try cost us $3,000, after getting it back and it still not running correctly, they wanted a second try and said we needed to change the catalytic converter for $3,500. Towed the car to Mac and they found that Precision Auto had over-filled it with oil. It was low on oil when brought it to Precision and in the first round of $3,000 they never drained the oil, only added oil according to their work order. Mac drained all the oil out and refilled and replaced the filter and the car runs like new. I highly recommend Mac Auto. read more

To start off, Mac Auto Repair has always been honest with their work and service requested. The work that they do is great. I had both of my air intake valves replaced by them, and all of my breaks and rotors. The value of their work is way worth it because they are looking to keep your vehicle in the best safe and working condition for you rather than nickel and dining you like other businesses. I highly recommend going there if you need some work done on your vehicle. I'm so happy I found this place from Yelp! My car started making these chunking noises from the front, sounds that I haven't heard before. With a car that has over 200,000 miles, I expected that repairs would be needed sooner or later. After going to one repair shop and getting a consultation, I was told that I would need a new water pump, thermostat, thermostat gasket, serpentine belt, and pulleys. That shop quoted me $1,300. In a way, the price justified the repairs, but it was out of my reach. I called a few places in Watsonville and got advice to either take my car in to the dealership (not going to happen) or got a quote for $1,100 to only fix the water pump and thermostat and not the other repairs. Luckily, after talking to Macario on the phone, he was able to get me a direct estimate to my email with the name of all the parts and its prices and the labor charge. I even got a second estimate in order to account for potential fluctuations. I couldn't wait for my car to be done later throughout the week, as I needed my car for the weekend. I was able to drop off my car yesterday around 6pm and picked up my car today at 3pm without an appointment. It was all so last minute, as I called around 3:30 yesterday to inquire. Macario and his team are so fast! He showed me all the old parts that were taken out of the car and explained what was wrong with each of them. I paid $995.99 for the total cost of repairs, which included a new water pump with gasket and o-rings, thermostat and gasket, serpentine belt, idler pulleys, coolant, and an accessory belt tensioner pulley. I saved $300! And the chunking noise is now gone, putting my worries to rest. Looks like I found a new reliable mechanic to go to when my car needs fixing. Thank you Macario! read more

I was really happy with the service that I got here! My clutch went out on my 2010 Mazda 3, and I needed it fixed ASAP since I was having to rent a car until I could get it repaired. Mac Auto replied REALLY quickly to the Yelp quote request I put out after finding out the mechanic I had planned to use wouldn't be able to get me in. Not only that, they were about $400 less than my mechanic's quote! When they found a few other things that needed to be addressed, he called me first and gave me my options. Even after replacing the flywheel and the boot on the axle, it was still less than some other quotes I got. They were also friendly and really accommodating. I'm planning on going back for tire and alignment services in the future after how well this went. read more

I take my cars to get smogged here. They don't charge you just to run an obd test to see if your car is ready like other shops. I have taken my SUV to have an transmission oil change and there pricing was far less then at the dealer. read more

Don't trust these people. This place is a joke. I got my clutch and flywheel replaces a few months ago. The first thing I noticed when I got my car back was that the clutch felt light and cheap and it squealed in 2nd gear. Two days later the clutch stopped working in traffic on the freeway. I wasn't even able to push it off the road because the wheels locked up. I had it towed back to Mac auto because of the warranty. They called the next day and said there was nothing wrong with it and it magically fixed itself. Two months later the clutch went out again and I had it towed back because the warranty. They said it would take 3 days and because I had so many problems in such a short amount of time they told me to get a rental and they would reimburse me. So I rented a car for 3 days, and in order to rent the car I had to pay the full $154 up front which was non refundable. They called me the next day demanding that I pick my car up in 15 minutes. It is impossible to get from Santa Cruz to Watsonville at 5pm in 15 minutes because of traffic, even on the weekend. I got there as soon as I could and when I drove away, the clutch had not been adjusted right and is very difficult to shift. The check engine light was on (which hasn't been on before), the alignment was so off that it is unsafe to drive, and the belt I just had replaced at a reliable mechanic was squealing. I called and told them all the issues and they said to come in the next day and they'd make it all right. So I drove my unsafe car from Santa Cruz to Watsonville to be told that they would not adjust the clutch, or fix any of the other problems they created. They said it was the way I drive that caused the problems which is highly unbelievable and they only reimbursed me for one day of the rental car because they "fixed" it two days sooner than they quoted, despite the rental receipt clearly stating that the $154 for 3 days was non refundable. Never take your car here for anything. All their 5 star yelp reviews must be from employees or friends. They are not honest, not trustworthy and not good mechanics. They caused hundreds of dollars of problems to a car that was reliable and safe until they put their hands on it. When I asked what they could do for me, they told me to call the better business bureau. Not to mention their customer service is non existent. They say one thing and then do nothing, and are extremely rude. I can't express my dissatisfaction with Max Auto, and would never recommend them to anyone. Nobody likes going to the mechanic, but Macario makes it easier to deal with being at a shop. He fixes any issues my car has and charges a fair price. Took my car in for a smog check. The week before my SES light came on and I personally replaced the spark plugs and coils and reset the error code. Brought it in after 4 days of no light. The tech first checked to see if it was ready to smog. He told me the code was still pending and it may not pass, but it should. He said he would not charge me if it didn't. Well, I passed! Today I brought it in for an oil change and their prices are cheaper than Speedee. Especially for my SUV because It hold 7qts. I usually get charged extra at Speedee. Not here though. Flat rate of $45. The were super professional, knowledgeable and courtesy. I am recommending to everyone I work with and will be continuing with their services. I use to live in Reno and had an awesome mechanic, and now I'm glad to have found a shop with the same qualities! Thanks for being an honest shop guys! I took my car into Mac auto repair due to a transmission leak. After paying $1700 for the repair, I drove the car home. The next morning the identical transmission leak continued. I called Mac and returned the car for repair. They claimed they repaired the leak after keeping the car over one week. I picked up the car and to my dismay the leak continued. I then returned my car for a third time to repair the leak. After several days, I was told it was not the transmission that was leaking. They said it was the power steering fluid. Mac said that the transmission fluid was the same color as the power steering fluid. I told Mac that I did not believe him and that the two fluids were not the same color and I insisted that they repair my car which was still in warranty. They refuse to repair my car or refund my money. I then took my car to a reputable auto repair in gilroy and confirmed that it was not the power steering fluid rather it was indeed the transmission fluid that continued to leak. Again, Mac refused to repair my car per their warranty. I am a very dissatisfied customer and strongly recommend that you do not take your car to Mac. This auto repair is a fraud and has very poor customer service. Mac is a very poor auto repair service and simply wants your money. They overcharge and do not repair your car properly. In order to get more money out of its customers, Mac in Watsonville, will tell you something else is wrong with your car, even there is nothing wrong.
