This results in transactional care, checking off boxes to comply with Medicare but a lack of genuine compassion for the patient. (hospice enrollment recommendations below) Hospice affords more normal hours than working at a hospital. However, the trade off is probably that the nurses may have to drive 100 miles a day all over the county to serve patients. It's a crap shoot when it comes to the nurse case manager (weekly nurse) you get based on when you enroll in hospice care. And it's a crap shoot for the nurses too, who gets assigned to them. (see #4 below) Transitions was recommended to me by someone I trusted. I didn't know what I didn't know but my initial instinct during the first transaction with the intake nurse seemed off to me. She didn't listen, was not paying attention to what I said (about my Mom's care needs) and not educating us on how we should be looking at the whole hospice experience, especially medication management. We lasted a month and a half before I went to another company. The whole point of hospice is having continuity of care. The nurse case manager kept scheduling other nurses to come in her place which consequently caused us to have to orient a new nurse almost every week. Recommendations for Hospice Enrollment and Ongoing Management 1) Trust your instincts if your first interactions with the hospice org aren't stellar. Unless your family member is very close to death you probably have time to interview another company. 2) How medication is administration is explained and distributed (by mail or pharmacy pick up) is critical. 3) Understand that the first several intake people who call or visit may not be the regular providers you will be seeing. They have to check boxes for Medicare so they may only be marginally helpful. 4) The Clinical Manager who manages schedules and nurse performance is THE most critical role in the process. This person MUST be a great problem-solver, compassionate, caring, understanding and a good listener. Spend time up front describing your loved one's personality, likes and dislikes to hopefully get the best match possible nurse case manager (weekly nurse). 5) Once you get through the initial process, if you don't like the hospice care you're getting it's fairly easy to transition to another company (assuming you have POA for your loved one). 6) Make sure your POA and Healthcare POA are updated. If you had documents drafted years ago, they may not be specific enough for today's requirements. 7) If you have a life alert system you can give the hospice company number to the life alert system company so 9-1-1 won't get called in an emergency. 8) LPN's have more authority with medications than RN's but Medicare requires RN's to visit at least once every other week. 9) Hospice nurses understand that the closer to the end of life someone is, the less interested in eating they will be. Also, people at the end of life will sleep more. So keep track of eating and sleeping because the nurses will be most interested in that in addition to pain management. 10) Document changes in health in advance of nurse visits even if it's jotting small notes on a calendar because over time all the days blend together.

So unprofessional and downright tacky. I'm already looking for another pediatric cardiologist and have no desire to even try to schedule an appointment.

Located off Lake Boone Trail, it's a pretty central location - takes us about 20 minutes from WF. Again, highly recommend Dr. Bailliard. For nursing mama's, Michelle the Lactation Consultant, is fantastic to work with. Helps address lactation related issues with attention and love. Patients of the practice have the benefit of utilizing an online "patient portal" which allows you track and make appointments, medication, immunization records and everything else! Super convenient for forgetful moms like me. As a bonus, the practice is open something like 360+ days out of the year which makes it super convenient to get in and see someone at the last minute. Only negative I can think of is the waiting room layout--there's a "sick" and a "healthy" side. The front desk isn't very good about reminding patients about the room distinction and the signs they have on the wall are not very noticeable--pay attention especially during cold and flu season.

As they expand they are adding physical locations which are 10 plus miles apart. The administrative staff makes errors in appointment locations and times some 20% of the time. I share this from family experience and observing patients arrive and even waiting for appointments in the wrong office. Later the administrative staff will claim they notified them. I've observed patients sharing the phone and text messages proving they were never notified. Even myself, I setup an appointment 4 to 6 weeks in advance, the day before the appointment I was texted the appointment was in the office I expected, 1 hour before the appointment I was informed the appointment was moved to another office. This is extremely unprofessional. A practice does not change a providers location a few hours in advance. The practice manager had to have been advised of this change weeks ago. The manager did nothing. They do have some good staff. They need more. They need to increase the salaries and benefits to attract more professional and experienced administrators who take responsibility and accountability. Doctor Tharwani and his clinical staff are very good. Just expect issues 20% of the time issue with your appointments until they get proper administrative staff and/or procedures.

Our hope in moving practices was to be in a practice that felt neurodivergent affirming -- not just tolerant. We were met with kindness and grace at our first appointment with our fourth child, a newborn baby. We came with challenges and feared a difficult visit. Dr. Lopez listened intently, asked insightful questions and provided thorough advice and guidance. Dr Lopez's follow up on a particular visit topic was timely and persistent--so appreciated as a sometimes overwhelmed mom of four! We decided to switch the older kids, including our neurodivergent child, into the practice after our first visit. I have since read Dr. Lopez's background and am delighted to see the wonderful professional experience he has as well as his presence as an educator at UNC. His teaching and volunteer roles in the community indicate to me that he is someone who is continually exposed to new and emerging information rather than remaining complacent with initial med school teachings. He has been refreshingly willing to talk to and treat us like we are collaborative members of our child's healthcare needs. We have found a collaborative and empowering approach to be an incredibly valuable trait for a physician to have -- particularly as parents of a neurodivergent child. I highly recommend Dr. Lopez to any family who values an active and educated role in their child's healthcare. Accolades and experience aside--Dr. Lopez was diligent to connect with my neurodivergent child who, after a few bad years of illnesses and procedures, often experiences anxiety in medical offices. He is kind, silly and disarming in his bedside manner with my children. A visit once began with my child fearfully hiding behind me and ended with my child delivering a big joyous hug for Dr. Lopez. We are grateful to have found Dr. Lopez and Western Wake Peds!

Unfortunately, we feel like every time we came with an issue, it was pretty overlooked and not much medical advice was given to us. The front desk lady let me know that I would be charged even though I called as soon as I got out of the Dr office and found out I was sick/contagious and couldn't bring my son into his appointment in the late afternoon. We would drive 35 min to go here and feel like unfortunately, it was not worth our drive. We found a new office that we like much better who truly listens to our concerns and does not charge anything if you are a sick, full-time working mother who is already struggling to get out of work and doing the best she can. Again, we loved the lactation consultant, and there was a young female doctor with brown hair who we also enjoyed- she was very gentle with our son. I wish they went somewhere else. As far as the other doctors & nurses- they didn't want to hear any concerns we had. And the one front desk lady is not pleasant over the phone at all. She sounds like she does not enjoy her job... but the other front desk ladies are typically nice. She didn't even try to explain anything to me when I didn't understand the charge and then she sounded surprised when I told her we were switching practices. Overall, 3/5 stars I guess but only because of the lactation consultant and the one dr we thought actually listened to us. We did not feel a connection with any of the other staff at all.

However, my most recent experience revealed a serious inconsistency. During a phone call, the staff member answering failed to place me on hold. As a result, I overheard Dr. Megan Pasookhush making repeated profane and explicitly derogatory remarks about me over the course of several minutes. When the call resumed, I informed them that I had heard the conversation and that it had been recorded. The call was then disconnected, and my subsequent attempts to call back were not answered. In healthcare -- especially in settings where patients are seeking support for sensitive medical concerns -- professionalism must be consistent, not conditional. What is said when a patient is believed to be "off the line" matters just as much as what is said directly to them. Given that this pharmacy is both provider-directed and owner-operated, accountability is particularly important. Due to the seriousness of this incident, I am pursuing formal avenues to address the matter. I cannot recommend this pharmacy.

I've made the mistake of letting my meds almost run out before asking my doctor for a refill and they always accommodate me, including calling my doctor and getting the meds shipped to me super fast. I live nearby, but because of my work hours, it's hard for me to get over there, so I always have my medication shipped, which they do for no fee. After having a couple not-so-great experiences with other compounding pharmacies in the area, it's such a relief to have them here. With how busy things are today, and with how much hassle there can be in dealing with the medical system, it's wonderful to have a provider who actually reduces stress instead of adding to it! Also, all of orders from them have been correct, and I know the operate with the highest standards of cleanliness and accuracy.
