My 8 year old daughter was being teased about not being able to say her R's. Adults and children…read morealike would mimic her speech and a rude child on the soccer field pointed out the irony that her name had R's in it but she couldn't say them. Her name begins and ends with R, and she began to avoid saying her name when introducing herself or when people would ask her name. This broke my heart and solidified the need to seek speech therapy. She began therapy in February 2024 with Mikayla, and by October/November she had made drastic improvements in the ability to say R's but the habit of saying R sounds the old way was hard to break. It is now January 2025 and our insurance has changed so she is no longer able to attend therapy, but I am so happy to report that she has now mostly broken the habit of saying R's the old way all on her own without reminders, and most importantly can confidently say her own name. I also want to thank Karen for her diligence in working with my insurance company getting the claims paid. She has a beautiful voice and makes every session fun, engaging, and relaxing. She always sings his favorite songs exactly the way he wants--even when that means singing "Hickory Dickory Dock" with the clock striking 34 times, or singing "Five Little Sharks Jumping on the Bed" simply because my son requested it! She keeps him engaged while encouraging him to try new things and make new sounds. We also work with Natalie and Bella for speech therapy, and we couldn't be happier with them. They take the time to understand my son, follow his interests, try different approaches, and collaborate with each other to figure out what works best for him. They also introduced us to the Bjorem Speech Sound Cues, which has made a noticeable difference in his speech, and they're always giving me practical tips to work with him at home. In our search for a speech therapist as a mom of a 2 year old boy, I found that many of the…read moreproviders covered by PPO insurance had 6-12 month long waitlists. The ones that don't give real...dmv vibes. My husband and I explored about 10+ providers (some covered by insurance and some not...lynne alba, learning tree, OC speech, etc.) between Long Beach and Orange County. What we learned is: 1. Choose a provider that wants you (mom and dad) involved in the process. Sessions build the foundation and it then can be enforced at home 2. Choose a provider that isn't overloaded with clients so you can get a higher quality of care 3. Kids want to talk when they're excited so a dog for example can really help break the ice and allow your child to open up. That said, our experience with Jen has been phenomenal! She truly cares about my son and she's a mom herself so she knows how family dynamics can be and is understanding of that. She keeps us involved and truly goes above and beyond. This past halloween she coordinated a trick-or-treat tour with the nearby offices for her kids to have fun with! She challenges my son so that he is constantly moving to the next level with his speech. The dog Francis is such a great helper! Sometimes the dog does nothing but stick by my son's side and that is enough and we love it. I've been taking my 2 1/2 year old son to Zenith for about 6 months now, and his improvement has…read morebeen amazing. When we first started he probably only had 2-3 words to his vocabulary. Now not only does he know some basic sign language that we utilizes a lot at home, but he is now imitating us a lot and is able to say a few three word sentences. He use to throw a lot of tantrums do to not being able to communicate with us correctly. Those have gone down a lot as well. At the moment we are working with Liz who is amazing with him. She knows exactly what grabs his attention, and every time she sees him he comes out with more and more to show. She is bilingual so it has been great for us since we speak both English and Spanish in our house hold. We also work with Brittany, who also has done really good with him. Leslie was the first one we worked with, and Matthias took to her so well. Unfortunately we no longer work with her do to our schedule, but she is super sweet and knows just how to work with kids. Mala I believe is the owner, she is great. Even though she doesn't work directly with every client she knows who you and your kid are when she comes in. Always very attentive. When we first started having questions about her delay in speech and social anxiety, we decided to get her evaluated by the best in our area, Cornerstone. Her evaluation was done by kind, compassionate and obviously well educated therapists who were very caring to not "label" her or increase the anxiety in Mom or me! Not knowing if we were right in our own "instinct"concerns, I felt that Cornerstone staff from the front office to the actual treating therapists were very adept at recognizing the need for my Granddaughter to have Speech, OT and PT with the encouragement and positive support that carried her through her entire treatment plan. I am happy to say that our girl is doing amazing! We as a family have also been "coached" how to help her at home and the result is that we now have a happy healthy, fully integrated fun and social little 5 year old. Thank you Cornerstone Therapies for being a Whole Family focused clinic with such caring and effective therapists! The office staff is so friendly and they've really fostered an environment where everyone feels like family. They did all the work when I needed re-authorization through my insurance.
