Six years after they gave me dentures that didn't fit, They are still F#@$%$#ing my credit. Be wary.

I had a very good experience with them. I made an appointment last week (for the day right after Thanksgiving) for extreme pain and difficulty swallowing caused by inflammation on the gums around my wisdom teeth. Believe me, I was very miserable. To my surprise, they were able to schedule an appointment within ONE HOUR of my call, so of course I went right away. I made it on time for my appointment, and then I had a very short wait. One thing that drives me insane about American health care is that they are so opaque with prices, they give you fake estimates and then you have to pay about 5x more. Well, none of that at Spectrum. The price they told me on the phone was the price I paid (I don't have dental insurance unfortunately but they gave me a student discount! :D ). After the techs (I'm not sure what you call them - the people who take your X-Rays before you see the dentist?) did what they had to do, I was sent to the room where the dentist came within I think five minutes or so. The dentist was able to tell me exactly what was going on, and told me what to expect to be able to cure it. She then prescribed me some drugs and I began taking them right away. Within a few days, the pain disappeared! I went back today for my follow up appointment, and I am pain-free! There is still a minor bit of inflammation but that should go away when I finish my drugs. Today there was a slighttttt wait, I waited about 20 minutes, which doesn't seem too bad. As a broke student, I dreaded having to pay again, but guess what? The follow-up has no fee! The dentist is also very kind, professional, and it seems to me knowledgeable (having no dentistry knowledge myself, I can only make a reasonable guess but she seems knowledgeable. After all, she has a degree from Howard University and went to University of Maryland Dental School so I feel like these are good qualifications.) Will consider going again to get wisdom teeth pulled and teeth cleaning. Unfortunately it will be really expensive because I don't have dental insurance, so hopefully they'll give me another student discount, but as for as dentist appointments go, this place is one of the best ones I've been to. read more

Spectrum Dental has great, friendly personnel and always gets the job done right. They replaced my broken tooth with an implant that looks so natural, sometimes I even forget it's not real. Thanks, Dr. Dulan and co.! They're affordable too with Johns Hopkins' Delta Dental insurance. read more

First thing I noticed when I walked into the dental office was the R&B jazz music playing the next thing I noticed were the beautiful black women and their smiles that were at the front desk and they both had on beautiful trendy glasses the dental hygienist were very polite and inviting I had a great experience the only thing I didn't like was when the dentist walked in to meet me she did not introduce herself so I still don't know who my dentist was but I had a very pleasant dental hygienist by the name of Erica you guys did an amazing job today can't wait to return The ambiance and positive vibes were one to remember I've never experienced this energy at any doctors office keep up the great work happy Black History Month!! read more

Wow. This place was insane. I wish I could give negative stars. The first time I went, for an 8:30 AM appointment, I ended up waiting for literally 3 hours! The atmosphere was extremely unprofessional. Why I stayed, I don't know. They found 2 cavities, and because of my wait, waived the copay for filling one of them. And I went back. Again, I don't know why. When the dentist gave me the novocaine injections, it hurt so badly that I almost couldn't stay in the chair. This was my first time getting fillings but I'm no wuss. I braced myself for the worst when I had to get the damage repaired, but I barely even felt the injections at the other place. So. The dentist missed the nerve like whoa. The side of my face went paralyzed. I couldn't even close my eye. When he came back, I tried to explain but he just laughed and said it would be fine. Given that my mouth wasn't numbed at all, I had to protest. I endured another horrific injection. The job still wasn't done. I couldn't speak well, but I still had sensation. When I tried to tell him, he ridiculed my slurred speech, implied that I was being a drama queen and said it wouldn't be an issue. He went to start. It was definitely an issue. Another round of shots. Finally I was numbed. I had to hold my eye closed with my hand because otherwise it stayed open. He also made fun of me for that. He "didn't understand" when I told him why I was doing it and just laughed some more. "What are you talking about? A cheetah?" being his memorable words. By the time he was done, my face, hair and shirt were soaked from the water they sprayed in my mouth. The fillings were enormous, jagged, and stark white. My frozen eye was still watering all over the place. The coup de grace came 5 days later, when one of the fillings fell out! Like, out into my hand, to be saved in a baggie. I called to try to get my money back. They volunteered to fix it if I came by the office, for free! What a deal! This went back and forth for many, many phone calls. At one point, the receptionist asked who my doctor was. I told her it was Dr. White. She was surprised. "We don't get many complaints about him. Some of the others, yes, but not about him." Finally, when I told them I was reporting them all to the Maryland board of examiners, I got a call from the "CEO", a one Katherine Collier. They sent me a check, signed by "Katherine Collier, DDS CEO". It was for substantially more than my copay. I was confused but decided to take the money and run. When I got my insurance statement, I saw why- they'd falsely billed my insurance company. I couldn't make this up if I tried. read more

Surprisingly, I enjoyed my experience at Spectrum Dental. I say 'surprisingly' because dental visits are rarely enjoyable, but mine was. The admin staff was friendly and inviting. My wait time was approximately five mins, not bad at all. I had to get two cavities filled. Everything was explained to me before they began. and Dr. Collier reminded me of each step as she went along. The procedure was pain free and quick. Dr. Collier kept checking on me to make sure my pain was minimal. They let me hang in the exam room for as long as it took me to feel comfortable to leave. Like I said, it was enjoyable considering I was getting cavities filed. Not sure why others had such a bad experience, but mine was great. read more

Pros: Very friendly staff, no wait. Cons: Quality and price or services. I take very good care of my teeth, however I hadn't been to the dentist in a couple years. My experience at Spectrum was less than I expected. My cleaning only took ~20 minutes. The buccal and lingual surfaces of my teeth were cleaned well, but no one even touched the occlusal surface. The doctor did not even inspect this surface on any tooth. I am worried that they missed a cavity. Also, my bill for a total of 25 minutes of service (cleaning and x-rays) was $250 (national average is ~$127 for the same services). At least my insurance will pay for 80%. I will be looking elsewhere for my next cleaning. read more

Perfectly acceptable dentist office for regular cleanings and checkups. Easy to make appointments, office seems to run on schedule, thorough X-rays and cleanings, and very polite and kind staff. I've never had any need for serious dental work, so I'm unable to comment on that, but I will certainly continue to come here regularly for cleanings. read more

Do not go!! I have been going for 2 years now and trying to give the benefit of doubt, but can no longer. This is a very poorly run business that does not respect the patients. Every appointment I have ever had has been at least 20 minutes late. Today, I had a 10:00am appt. and at 10:45, when I still had not been called back, I had to leave to go to work. They open at 9:00am! Another time I had the first appt. in the morning for a filling. I watched the dentist browsing on the internet for 20 minutes past my start time. When she was finished, she called me back for the filling. REALLY!? Another appt. I had a cleaning and exam scheduled. The cleaning was complete and the hygienist was looking for the dentist, but she had left. No exam, but they billed my insurance. The women behind the counter are awesome and friendly, as is the hygienist. The rest of it...simply horrible. Its a shame. read more

My experience was similar to some other people's. Although I didn't need to wait long, I should have run at the first sight of the examination rooms. The equipment is extremely out-dated. The dentist I saw immediately started poking around in my mouth and informed me that she had to fill cavities without even asking me if I wanted them filled. Next thing I know, I already had a novocaine injection going into my gums. If that wasn't bad enough, the injection didn't go into the right place and I had to have another one given to me. THen, during the whole filling process, my tooth HURT. I'm not too big of a baby (I've had fillings done without novocaine), but these were painful even WITH the novocaine. To top it all off, after my mouth hurting for a good 2 days, the tooth I had filled continued to hurt and was very sensitive to cold and even chewing. I eventually went back to my old dentist to find out that I had a nerve exposed during the process. If I could give negative stars, I would as well. read more

I had a very pleasant experience at Spectrum Dental Clinic. I had to go in a very short notice, [made a appt a day before] because my impacted wisdom tooth on lower left jaw was hurting so much during my finals week at JHU. I booked the appointment in the morning 9:30 am; so there was only one person before me. When I was in the examination room, it was very cold due to ac but Dr. Collier was very kind enough to get me a mini heater in the room when I told her. For the extraction, Dr. Collier would kept on checking on my pain level during anesthetic injection and the procedure. I did not feel pain that was intolerable for a dental treatment, [so i'm curious of amanda's experience.] after the procedure Dr. Collier went thru the aftercare precautions and steps thoroughly with me. The front office staff was very kind and patient with me. I am very thorough and bit anal when it comes to billing or anything involving money. And the office staff was very understanding and made sure the copay was correct, and it was. I would highly recommend Spectrum Dental. I'm assuming amanda and andrew had bad experiences there due to their lack of experience in dental office and weren't prepared or didn't know what to expect. so when you go to any dentist;s office, be sure you are prepared or you'll probably had such bad experiences as above. read more

They are terrible at dentistry: I had a very unpleasant experience in this office. I asked Dr. Dulan to fill three teeth on the upper right side for me. But by mistake, she filled four teeth. They tried every method possible to charge me for four teeth, but I did not accept. After a month, they told me I have a $65 balance, even though I paid my balance in full at the time of visit. After a month of pain in the filled teeth, I went to an endodentist and they said two of the fillings were not done properly. I asked Dr. Dulan to re-do them. They said they want to charge me for the office visit and X-Rays, even though it was their own fault in not doing the fillings properly. Staff are rude: My appointment was at 10:30 AM. But they made wait for an hour until they called my name. While Dr. Dulan was finally fixing her mistake and redoing the fillings, her rude assistant, asked me to close my mouth. I did not hear what she said and she grabbed my mouth and forced my mouth shut with her fingers! I was appalled and could not believe how disrespectful someone could be! read more

I have very mixed feelings about Spectrum Dental. I just moved back to Baltimore, after living elsewhere for over twenty years. I also was out of the country for 7 months before really coming back. Getting the appointment was no problem. First appt for a cleaning, I got there on time and waited easily a half hour. The cleaning took over an hour. As I was out of the country for a while and moving to a different city, it had been over a year since my last time seeing a dentist - but I have never had a cleaning take that long - making me miss an appointment I had after that. The dentist came in for maybe 1 minute, quickly looked in my mouth, and said I had 2 cavities behind my front teeth. I don't get cavities often so I was surprised, but thought ok, maybe because I had been traveling in Asia and Africa, something I ate or whatever.... When i came back to get the cavities filled, I again waited at least 1/2 hour, if not 45 minutes. The dentist came in and filled two cavities on the right side of my mouth, and said I needed to come in again to fill the two on the other side of my mouth. Not sure what is going on, but it almost feels like a scam... The first dentist who didn't really even look in the mouth, 'saw' two in one place and at the next visit, a different dentist filled two somewhere else.... I am not sure I am going back to the get the other two filled, as it all seems weird. read more

First of all, I have to state that it is ridiculous to insinuate that other reviewers don't know what they are talking about due to a "lack of experience" in a dentist's office, because YOUR experience was positive. Also, the positive reviewer saw Dr. Collier herself...it appears that the other two reviewers did not. Perhaps you just got lucky in seeing Dr. Collier, and maybe Dr. Collier has a professional and compassionate bedside manner... But for now, I'll step off of my soapbox. I took my six year old in for his appointment. When I made his appointment, I was not told that the dentist doesn't see children or any like terms, so I assumed that it would be fine to bring him in to the office. The receptionist, as well as the aides were perfectly amiable, welcoming and understanding...I would like to mention that before I launch into the story of the "dentist". I realize that there are some small children that have no fear of the dentist and his tools...I happened to be one of those children. However, there are others that do have quite a fear of the dental office, and unfortunately my child is one of them (before anyone dares to mention it, yes, I have talked and explained extensively to him regarding the lack of danger present in a dentists' office...but a rational six year old is a rare creature indeed). Upon being led to the room that he would be examined in, we were introduced to the dentist and could get nothing more than a look as if we were nothing more than peasants who'd imposed upon him in some manner. This was before we ever stepped foot into the room. He then pretty much waved us off to his understanding, quite lovely aide, but not before flippantly telling her to "do bite wings". She apologized to us, and told me that she wouldn't even recommend bite wings for a child,due to the fact that they have small mouths at such a young age, but since the diva (my word, not hers) requested it... Five minutes later, my child, despite trying his level best despite being scared, has gagged twice because he's six with a small mouth. So now he's ON EDGE. He couldn't give a good enough impression on the bite wings, so this had to be nixed. On to the examination... My child sees the big dentist's chair, and begins getting upset...he just figures he's in for more torture at this point. Finally, I get him to an agreeable enough point to sit in the chair...if I sit with him. The aide sees no problem with it, so I do. By this point, there are several other aides in the room, all of them jovial and good-natured. If I were basing my rating solely on them, I'd give them five stars. My kid is actually back in a good mood at this point. Then Dr. Diva comes back. Once again, no words to us of any kind (he did not address my child or myself by name the ENTIRE TIME). He pulls out the mirror to look at my child's teeth, then pulls out the pick with no warning. My son takes one look at this thing, which although small must look like a mini grim reaper's sickle to his little mind, and promptly turns full around, trying to get away from this thing. I try talking him into letting the dentist look at his teeth using the instrument, calling it a toothpick (as he knows what that is), by now he's too aggravated and wants nothing to do with anything in the office or this strange man. Dr. Diva walks out, not a single word to me. He sends one of his aides in to tell me that he is recommending my child see a pedodontist. This in itself is fine with me, so I gather our things,pick up the referral from the receptionist and leave. My mother came along with myself and my child, as she is quite close to her grandson. She did not come into the examination area, and chose to stay in the waiting room. Dr. Diva did not know that this was my mother in the waiting room. She could have been any random person. So what does Dr. Diva do before my return to the front lobby? He proceeds to babble to the receptionist that he's referring "that child" to the pedodontist, because he's not letting him do anything, and the mother is "just playing around." Uh...for your information, you snob, it's called calming a child down in the presence of strange instruments and some person he doesn't know. I will not even delve into the unprofessional nature of discussing a patient in front of others. I am not the kind of mother who feels that the world should revolve around her child only. I realize that people will not bow at his feet and coddle him at every step of the way. What I do expect though, is compassion and humane treatment. I do not expect to be treated with condescension that borders on revulsion. I would not send my dog to Spectrum Dental again, ditto for my child. read more

This office is so professional and clean love coming to get my teeth cleaned there every 6 months because it's always a pleasant & friendly environment. Also, the prices aren't bad either if u have to pay out of pocket. read more

I was referred to Spectrum Dental from another customer. First let me say, I am definitely not a big fan of going to the dentist so I was long overdue. With that being said, I feel a good experience is definitely worth sharing. The staff was really attentive and took great care of me. They realized I was a bit nervous and apprehensive so they did all they could to make me comfortable. Last but not least of course, they did an amazing job on my teeth! read more

My dentist always discusses with me what preventative care I may need and we proceed from there. I, not to long ago, completed my Invisilign process and my teeth are beautiful. KEEP AWAY FROM DR WHITE... I'm a doctor my self, found his work sloppy, he quite friendly but was in a hurry to finish the cleaning because it was close to 5 pm, and I still had white tatar in the area I told him I needed cleaning , this was not even a difficult place the two front lower teeth !!! and when he was flossing my teeth I kept wincing in pain and signaling him to be more gentle, but he kept going, no "sorry" or try to be more gentle if he was tired or needed more time i would have gladly come back another day, but it felt like he just wanted to get some more money for the day before the office closed in the last minute. I waited maybe 40 minutes, the staff were very friendly. I would try Dr Collier since she seem to have much better reviews. its too bad, one doctors poor quality of care is enough to ruin the practice name. I would have felt horrible if I treated my patients like him. perhaps it was a one time incident, but I would still keep away from him. read more

So far, my experience at Spectrum has been quite pleasant. The front desk staff are warm and friendly, I always get reminders about my appointments (which is really helpful), and the dentist I've been seeing (Dr. Dulan) was very nice. I've recently had to go in for a root canal, which, after all the horror stories people told me, actually ended up being quite rapid and painless. That being said, Dr. Dulan kept inquiring how I was doing every few minutes. I still have to get a crown put in, but so far, I have no complaints. I'd recommend them for JHU employees, with the easy access from work being a big plus. read more

Dr. Dulan and her staff are truly amazing, Dr. Dulan is the absolute best in all that she does, The staff members are very welcoming, and are always accommodating with appointments and scheduling. Dr. Dulan is a master, I feel no pain when she is working on my teeth, even when I should experience some pain, I have absolutely no pain. Dr. Dulan is so precise and efficient that I have fallen asleep in her chair many of times. How many times are you able to fall asleep in the dental chair? I have driven from VA to Baltimore for at least 3 years, that tells you that she is worth the drive, because you know that she does excellent work. Well I am here to tell you that she has been my dentist for over 10 years and my teeth look absolutely amazing. read more

After 20+ years of service, I am still a satisfied customer for at least 95% of the work performed. There was only one time I was disappointed with the service--only once in 20+ years is a sign of true excellence! I wouldn't go back. They were able to see me on very short notice for an endodontic evaluation (tooth abscess) which many dentists will not do "same day" but to say they were sketchy is an understatement. The "bed side manner" was non existent and absolutely perfunctory in application. The doctor never even told me her name until I asked (Caldwell) and you won't find a listing of their doctors there anywhere. At one point, to cure the temporary filling insert, the doctor used a BIC LIGHTER TO HEAT THE DENTAL INSTRUMENT and cauterize the the material. I mean WTF was THAT! They also opted out of my program with Concordia DHMO in March, though they still appear in lit that says that are in the program (not their fault) but they did charge me a reasonable co-pay of $200 for the "same day service". I felt kind of "man handled", certainly not the best dental visit, but it was utilitarian at least I suppose. read more

I usually dont write reviews but the level of unprofessionalism at this office had to be shared. I was scheduled for a 1030 am appt today, showed up on time, and was still sitting in the dental chair at 1130am. At least I made it into the dentist chair right? RIGHT!! I sat there staring around impatiently for an hour. No one came in to explain the situation as to why the dentist wasnt in there or anything. A tech can in and carelessly went through " sterile" equipment w her ungloved hands, im assuming looking for something for another patient. Can you believe for an hour no one said anything and how dumb of me to sit there so long. Needless to say, I realized that this is not the place for me and I had to go..never to return again. My time is just as precious as the next guy. A little courtesy goes a long way. Your better off performing dental procedures on yourself than to go to this place! read more
