I'd bought a LivingSocial deal for Spectacle while I was still in Boston. I stopped by the store while the owner, Paul, was on vacation with his family. I hadn't checked the website or called ahead because I remembered the store hours and assumed he was there. When I came back days later, he gave me an extra discount for my troubles (even though he had left a message on the store voicemail and website saying he was away)! He picked a bunch of frames and patiently waited while I tried each on and suggested more. I really like the pair I chose, but he also reminded me of his 30 day exchange policy. Paul is not only super friendly but also super funny! One of the reasons why I usually refuse to get my reading glasses in the US is because most of the stores I have been to only carry old looking and classical frames, very unappealing. But my opinion is about to change since I've visited Spectacle. Paul has such an amazing sense of fashion and carries frames suitable for everyone. I was surprised to see such a large collection, plus many trendy and lively looking frames. It was actually quite a hard decision to make when it came down to picking one pair only. Besides his pristine customer service, I really like the idea of a "frame open bar", the all you can try policy. I have been shopping around for a new pair of glasses and many places, including my own eye doctor's store were so expensive, quoting me prices upwards of $350 for lens and glasses. I don't write a lot of reviews but this guy paul is the man, a real glasses wizard. I was due to leave for a trip in 2 days and had a broken frame. Paul helped find a frame that almost fit my my previous lenses and with some sort of magic only a master wizard would know fixed the lenses into the new frame. He did this in 10 min and the old lenses looked brand new with the frame. The price for the fix was low and paul made the experience awesome. I plan to go back for another pair !! My wife had gotten a lovely pair of glasses from Spectacle last year, so when it was time for me to replace my frames she brought me in to meet Paul. The selection was amazing, and as he points out, there is nothing with logos or prominent name brands plastered all over the frame. Paul was very helpful; he listened carefully to what I was looking for and made some great suggestions. My last frames never felt quite right, and I always thought the optician who helped me choose them didn't really care how I looked or felt once the bill was paid and I was out the door. Paul's emphasis is on building a relationship, and I don't think I'll ever go to another optician. He gave me straightforward advice about what looked good and what would work for me, and I ended up with a pair of glasses that I have gotten many compliments on, and which I am more comfortable wearing every day. read more

I would really like to have had an appointment here, but after 5 emails confirming my appointment, they canceled the morning of due to the recent snowfall. I understand that the staff might have to make a long commute, but I worked that day, my friends worked that day, my girlfriend worked that day, the businesses surrounding Spectacle worked that day, and the optometrist I saw as a walk-in worked that day. The wonderful service leading up to my appointment was only met with crushing disappointment as I commuted downtown and repeatedly knocked on the door of what seemed to be the only business I encountered that was closed that day.
