Bought a car from another owner that handed me a file folder full of repair paperwork that JT Auto performed. there is a service sticker with an upcoming service in about 2000 miles on the windsheild. I stopped in to ask what needed to be done. Was it an oil change was it a tuneup. They acted like I stole the car. Intimated to me that it was against the law for them to tell me the information I was seeking ...told me it was HIPAA related type thing. I'm literally standing there with the car.. same license plate ...same VIN... gave them all the information they needed to look in the system. She begins to try to give me generalized service intervals. I wouldn't recommend them... if they're not enough of a service to be forthcoming to recognize a vehicle that they've worked on with the work history. If they try to bullshit you about why...they will bullshit about worked needed. I wanted to keep the car there at that shop, but given the attitude of the woman that I was dealing with and given the reluctance to even entertain trying to at least give me the basic. "It's an oil change". I couldn't trust them, and I won't trust them and you should not either. I took this car to Audi and I got all the history on this car from that dealership. All I had to do is show proof of ownership. JT Auto never asked to see that. read more

I called this shop on 9/24 to check if they had any openings for service and they said they were booked up until November. They asked what was wrong and I said we have wiper issues, concerned about our safety they said bring it in and we will check it out. I brought it in and employee JT was on it. I vividly remember being a small kid, leaned over my dad's engine as he pointed to something and said "don't ever let your serpentine belt break, always replace it first, it'll break a bunch of stuff with it." So anyways, I broke my serpentine belt on the middle of C Street at midnight and it broke a bunch of stuff with it. Desperate, I had it towed to Specialized based on sort of remembering the name from a conversation once. Thank goodness I did!! These guys really took care of me, they even put up with my husband calling from out of town for updates multiple times throughout the week the repairs took. I was given an explanation of not just what needed to be fixed, but why & how it would impact my driving experience. I was given choices and explanations for work that was optional, or work that could be done to a 'good enough' level versus fully restored. The guys at the shop were always courteous and knowledgeable. My favorite part of the experience was that they got the job done for significantly less than estimated! The work took a few days longer than expected, but I understand parts can be fickle and I had a second car available to me so I wasn't in a rush. read more

"THEY"said they cleared our payment cause they didn't fix the issue and they called up yesterday claiming we still owe an out standing balance! Go here if you want to get scammed! My Toyota had a very irritating "Mystery Rattle" behind the right rear wheel. After a quick test drive, Specialized diagnosed the problem as a loose shock absorber nut. They took the side panel off, tightened the nut, and won the Battle of the Rattle! $214, well spent. I'll be back! read more

My Volvo had an electrical issue that was causing it to overheat. This Carpenter diagnosed that all by myself! I took my car to Specialized Import Auto Service at the recommendation of one of his customers. I was told that he was not the cheapest in town but he was very good and that he could be trusted. The way I see it, if he's good and can be trusted, he is going to be more affordable than the shop that is not good and not trustworthy. You can only imagine my surprise when I found out that it was not an electrical issue! Replacing the thermostat did the trick. Quite honestly, I don't know squat about cars and have no business even guessing what the issue may be. The staff at SIAS will give me rides to work when I drop my car off. They call me and inform me of their findings with an accurate price estimate. They provide a list of other things that I will need to consider in the near future along with the cost estimates. They provide me with all of the information that I need to make well informed decisions. Specialized import auto service has earned me as a loyal customer. My wife failed to let me know that she had a brake light out on her Jaguar. A week goes by and I noticed as I'm following her , that she has no brake lights except for the third one in the back window. I look up to see if it was a fuse issue. No fuse listed in the manual and not getting a hit on google. Apparently a problem had by other jaguars x type owners. Called my regular auto shop and they were fully booked for two weeks. With snow in the forecast and it being dangerous to drive they recommended Specialty Imports to me. I went down at 7:30 am the next day. No appointment, but after hearing it was a brake light issue they took my wife's car in right away. It was diagnosed and fixed within two hours. Very happy with the service, professionalism, and the overall experience. The sentiment was backed up by regulars that also showed up for service. I now have two regular auto shops to go too. A few years ago this shop did a wonderful job for my daughter and I. They completed in just a few hours what their nearby competitors were unable to in an over a day. I paid the competitor for their excuses and needed to clean the interior of my car of the leaves and gravel left from the competitor's lack of care. Specialized Import Auto Service placed covers on the seats and floorboards. They also made a list of items too keep an eye on. Fast quality work with care. I'm writing this now because they recently impressed a friend too with quality work at a reasonable price minus the drama or because they could take a part off a junker and sell it as premium work. I'm was glad to hear Specialized is still a wonderful option off international in Anchorage and am glad to post a positive review on behalf of a shop that made a difference especially when compared to other choices in their neighborhood read more

Came here to have them check out a car I was considering buying after my regular mechanic recommended them. They were super helpful in guiding me to not buy an awful car! I feel like I totally scored (thanks, fellow Yelpers!) by finding this shop today. I am new to Anchorage and noticed part of my Mini's spoiler sort of 'hanging' off the bumper and the inside of the wheel well looking 'not right.' Crap! As a woman alone, reliable transportation is critical and especially here in Alaska...Specialized Imports and Jerry to the rescue! I had stopped by the shop late Thur aft; Jerry asked me to return Fri morning...50 minutes later, my car was fixed (for HALF the price originally quoted, which was already fair and reasonable...apparently the repair took less 'mechanic time' and apparently, this is a FAIR and HONEST shop!) Friendly, cost-effective, and honest. The mechanics here have actually recommended against having certain work done when it wasn't needed. Specialized Auto has reasonable prices and provides excellent customer service. And their waiting-room coffee is drinkable. They've done little, proactive things like check a low tire for leaks and replace an air filter. read more

I am a visitor to Anchorage and needed advice on a minor repair on a rental car. James Trueblood immediately responded when I pulled into his shop. He brought his cell so he would not miss messages, came out and got right down to business, knowing what to do and not hesitant to "get his hands dirty" in fixing up the car so it was perfect. Wow! What a deal! I feel pretty incompetent around cars and I feel pretty vulnerable whenever I need work done. So, I was asking around for a good mechanic and everyone kept recommending these guys.
