Loads of different coloured cupcakes all waiting just to be eaten.. by you.. So get chomping! The extra good news if you are feeling guilty is that they are all made with organic and free trade ingredients. Everything is homemade and you can order cakes big or small for special occasions or because you just want cake. Why wouldn't you? If you prefer something even healthier they make delicious banana bread and carrot cake too. It's a really new shop, and thumbs up for being brave enough to take such a risk. They look like they're trying hard enough to keep the customers happy and coming back including delivery of gift boxes at a humble £5. Hard to argue with them really.

I've been staying in Bothwell for a couple of weeks now (house sitting, I haven't suddenly came…read moreinto a windfall!) and have had the great pleasure of sampling some gorgeous cupcakery from this wee bakery on Bothwell's lovely Main Street. Now, as an amateur baker myself, I'd like to think I know my cupcakes. I bake from the Hummingbird Bakery books, and they always turn out fantastic. Having visited said bakery myself and got some dee-licious cakes, I can say that they are the best so far, but closely contended by this lovely little delight. The shop itself can seat a couple of tables of people. I am yet to sit in, but will do so one day for sure, as they sell Spanish hot chocolate that smells awesome. They have trays of different cakes every day. We sampled some marshmallow cupcakes, which, I have to say, are sweet beyond description, but bloody fabulous. You could easily share one between two and be satisfied (although I didn't, and was satisfied moreso). I just love everything about the place. I had no time to bake for visitors coming around today so I just went up and bought a box of 9 mini cupcakes, bite sized sponge topped with a peak of butter cream icing dyed vibrant shades of turquoise and pink, sprinkled with iridescent glitter. Gorgeous, cute as buttons, and went down a treat with the guests. The cupcakes are around £2.25 and the mini ones can be bought for £7.50 for a box of 9. Pricey perhaps, but in my opinion, you can never put a price on a good cake.

I thought if their cakes looked that amazing, the brunch must be amazeballs. I entered the grand looking coffee shop with walls of mirrors and a counter of cakes on a very dreicht Saturday morning. I was a bit late but fortunately when I arrived people had just ordered, I quickly picked from the menu French Toast (I knew what I wanted before I ordered to be honest) and a pot of Breakfast Tea. There was 10 fabulous Yelpers and we all picked a nice mix of various brunch meals. When the dishes hit the posh tables they looked pretty tasty. My tea was lovely and the French toast was a tasty brioche bread with a wee bowl of maple syrup to drizzle over. Now, don't get me wrong it did taste nice but I've had better and I felt like I could have had another slice, especially at the price they were charging. Now this place is not cheap. I knew that the cake was steep as I had seen the branch in Glasgow Central. Not only were my teeth thinking of falling out with the amount of sugar those mahoosive cakes have but my eyes were popping out with the prices. I really wanted to try the French toast with bacon but I just couldn't see myself paying over £7 for it. Maybe when I'm rich 'n' shiz. The staff were lovely and accommodating. I would like try their lunch menu and a slice of cake to see if they taste as good as they look. Firstly though I'll need to save up for the visit. So if anyone would like to support my next visit, donations are very welcome.

Pâtisserie Valérie is a very welcoming place where everyone should feel comfortable. Pastries are SO GOOD and sweet (just like the staff is). Moreover, the soft background music is making such a nice atmosphere!

I dragged Stu out of his festering pit and we made our way to Grant's the Bakers. I had passed it several times while sprinting for the train and the smell emanating from the bakery almost caused me to forget all about the train and go and live in there. Hot rolls and hot drinks are available to take away at very reasonable prices. At 10.30 on a Sunday, the queue was out the door and spilling untidily onto the street. Builders, locals and hungover tramps waited patiently in front of the cake filled counter and sizzling hotplate of over-processed meats. The smell was fantastic. Thanks to the two wee wummin behind the counter the queue moved quickly. We bought 6 totty scones and hastened home to fry them! They were big, misshapen and had an almost meaty bite to them. This makes them high up there in my Totty Scone Hall of Fame. Yes, I do actually have a Totty Scone Hall of Fame. I am rather a freak, I do fear. Next time I think I'll go for an iced donut.

We went for lunch about 1.30ish on Friday afternoon. It was really busy but luckily there was a table free. The lunch menu is £14.50 for 2 courses and I thought it was really good value. The food was sublime (not what you would expect in Uddingston!). I had a Butternut Squash Veloute with a poached egg and some a parmesan twill. Watching all the food programmes going, I had saw this made a few times and always wanted to try it. It was soooo good. Basically it is just a fancy soup but the beautiful poached egg and the veloute were so delicious and creamy. I then had slow braised beef with mash potatoes, glazed vegetables and gravy. There was a huge portion of delicious soft beef. The mash was creamy and yummy. All in all, it was one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. We then shared a Banana sticky toffee pudding as we were too full to have one each. The sponge was lovely and soft and the bananas were caramelised on top. Truth be told, I could have probably ate this myself looking back. Staff were lovely and attentive. I never tried any wine but they had an extensive list. Go here if you want amazing food at a reasonable price.
