We had some metal siding installed. First, they wanted to text the quote, that they don't email…read more Um, no. Suddenly an emailed quote appeared. Hmmm. They insisted on a contract. Surprisingly good, and bad. There were errors, our names had been changed, and such - but we worked it all out eventually. A wonderful coincidence was they use the same manufacturer that we would have, had we done the work ourselves. The material was exactly what we asked for. The attention to detail, particularly the trim, was impeccable. The planning around impending weather could not have been more perfect. The job was finished when they predicted it would be - starting early each day and staying late. All of them were very polite and mannerly. Phone calls were returned by texts, which we thought was odd. We had to ask that small pieces be picked up, but I'm finding more items than I expected - candy wrappers (Who does that?), used gum (Ewww. How about asking for a trash can?), cigarette butts (GASP - we're NON-smokers !), small metal pieces from cutting the sheets, and hardware. We've made several passes all the way around the house, finding more and more and more and more. If we were to need additional projects done, we'd certainly use them again - BUUUUT absolutely making sure to insist, and putting it in the contract - that all of the detritus was to be collected. Three- and one-half stars is more accurate, but not an option. Seeing the other reviews - one of them is the son of the owner. Reviewing your own business????

I was particularly pleased with the supervisor assigned to the job, Gregg Blumenreich, who continually kept me updated while carefully selecting colors that closely matched what I was looking for. Allman took the steps to make sure that the work was performed correctly while other contractors excluded the more difficult work from their quote-such as sanding by saying it was not necessary while I knew that in fact it was an important part of the project. Engaging Joey Edwards and his company, Proper Work, to build our addition was probably the best real estate decision we have ever made. Joey Edwards and his crew were innovative, superbly coordinated, and very conscious of staying within our original estimate. Joey assisted and advised us with every detail along the way and executed some ideas that we hadn't thought of in the beginning, like our patio and French doors. The project included a new woodstove, hardwood flooring, a finished basement, and painting. Joey put us in touch with our excellent woodstove company--a great recommendation. (I have reviewed this company, Safe and Warm, elsewhere on Yelp.) Joey also helped with the labyrinth of city codes and inspections. I think we had a total of 12 (?) inspections; maybe more. Our home is a 140-year-old miner's cottage in a historic district, so we also needed to comply with historic preservation regulations and remain respectful of its historical character. Joey and his crew were in our home for 8 months, but all went smoothly. Our dogs and cats even came to look forward having the crew here and they were all great with the animals. The stairwell rail had to be low enough to prevent cats explorating through the railing and the crew took that into consideration. The cats figured a way around it, but no fault of Proper Work--that is just the nature of cats. Our addition has increased the value and comfort of our home exponentially. We had to make the decision to expand our home or move elsewhere, and we clearly made the right decision, with the help of Proper Work.
