Wonderful food, very nice chef/owner and great location!!! Best restaurant in town for sure!

Custom ordered salad for the win!

This place is a phenomenal bistro style grill located on the Main Street in Kershaw SC! I live very close by. My wife and I bought a house in Kershaw and have been visiting the restaurants in the area. We always pass by this place because it is so small. There are a handful of tables inside, BUTTTT.....DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID OF PASSING IT BY. We are regular customers now. This is a few pictures of the Thursday night steak special. There is nowhere else in the state of South Carolina that you can get a ribeye this big and a baked potato this large and a salad and your drink for $15.99. They have a wonderful chef/owner (Christie) who clearly takes great pride in the quality of their food. She is running a tight ship at this restaurant. And it shows in the quality of the food. The waiting staff is super nice and it takes next to no time for you to get your food. I'm also a huge fan of the way they do their salads. They give you a laminated menu with all of the salad items on it and they let you choose with a a dry erase marker what all you want on your salad. Pretty genius. I'm going to stop rambling now so that you can go and try it out for yourself. The steak special is every Thursday night until they run out. Go get yourself one of these bad boys!!!

Food is good! Recommend getting in early on a Friday because it can get busy and service can be slow. But overall recommend.

Gabe was clearly busy on a Saturday night but still stayed attentive to our table of six. He walked us through the specials with great detail, offered thoughtful recommendations, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. Food - The reason we came, and it did not disappoint. Our table enjoyed shrimp cocktail, duck spring rolls, rack of lamb, and the King Tut special--every dish was a hit. The large sides were truly shareable for all six of us. The scalloped potatoes, in particular, were incredibly cheesy and scrumptious. Overall - It was our first visit, and we will definitely be back. The only downside was that the hostess seemed visibly overwhelmed by the Saturday night rush, which made the check‑in experience a bit stressful to watch. It might help to give her additional support during peak hours so the front‑of‑house experience matches the excellence of the food and service.

They told us afterwards, they were hesitant upon pulling in the parking lot. That is definitely part of the charm. Rustic meets southern charm is the vibe, and they do it well. The food was great! Shareable sides and salads, à la carte entrees. My only qualm was that upon getting home, we noticed they boxed up our sides (including about 8 pieces of fried okra) but didn't box up our entrees like we had requested. Definitely disappointed with this, as the filet specials and shrimp and grits aren't cheap and all had at least half the portion remaining. Other than that disappointment, it was lovely.

We live in Arizona now, and whenever we are near, we make a point to come back. They open at 6 and close at 9 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They have been in business since the 70's. I believe with the original owners. A lot of the foundational materials are the original. Well maintained though. If you plan on coming early, you need to make reservations. You actually need to have a reservation up until about 2000 if you are bothered by waiting. This is a family owned and operated business. Everyone is friendly and works hard to make sure you have a great experience. They have little turnover in the staff too. I've been seeing the same faces for 20 years. The waitresses are hustling and our drinks never came close to empty. Everything runs so smoothly. It's obvious that the back of the restaurant is working as hard as the front. Janelle was our waitress tonight and she's phenomenal. Here's what makes this place irresistible. Their steaks are marinated and cooked to perfection every time on a sizzling hot plate. They cook it a little less than requested because your steak continues to cook while you eat. I like to cut up my steak and roll it around on the steering plate. But that baked potatoes. This is what I dream about when I'm gone. They have a sour cream and butter mixture that is out of this world. It is so good, and they know it, that very few people know the recipe and they bring it in already mixed so that no one can truly figure it out.

I'm even more embarrassed that I never have pictures because I eat everything up so quickly, lol. They have the absolute best steaks in the county. I have never had one that wasn't seasoned perfectly or cooked accurately. The salad bar is very basic, but it's filling. It's definitely a nice start to the meal. The baked potato with sour cream is to die for! Now hear me out. The sour cream is seasoned with an onion & chive mixture that just brings out all kinds of flavors. I used it on top of my steak too! I can only recommend Carolina for dinner service because I hadn't had their lunch, but if its anything like their steaks, I'm certain you won't be disappointed!

After waiting a considerable amount of time he Greeted us by hurriedly saying, "I'm busy with this these other tables, I'll be back to tell you the specials." No greeting, name, "hello". Finally when he came to take our order my husband told him that I was still waiting for my cocktail. He rushed off to get it. Took our order. Delivered it. Never saw him again. Never came back to see if we needed anything or if our orders were correct. Mine wasn't! I had to get up THREE TIMES and ask the hostess if they could send our waiter over. The nice hostess offered to get the missing item from my order. Then to get our check. Then to get to go boxes. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! The waiter tossed the check on our table without a word and left. No apology for the awfully rude and neglectful service...nothing. Did I leave a tip? What do you think? After leaving my husband and I considered going back and tipping the kind Hostess that took care of our table; since she was doing all the work. We always tip 25%. We're going to go back and tip her.

My wife ordered a side salad and I ordered a side Caesar salad. The salads were cold, crisp and very good, although my wife's balsamic vinegar dressing caught her by surprised by the acidity of the dressing. Excellent meal. Our other friend ordered the Pork Chop, which was huge and quite thick. It had a maple glaze on it. You'll find a local restaurant located in the old Chesterfield Bank building and some of the best food around. Downstairs is a proper sit down restaurant complete with table cloths, real cutlery, glasses and fresh flowers on each table...something rather rare in these small rural towns. There's even a fireplace in the dining room for cozy evening during the winter. Upstairs is a proper sports bar with more giant flat screen tvs than you can count so you'll never miss any game. This is clearly a hangout for the locals but they certainly welcome strangers and you'll be sure to make new friends. The windows upstairs overlook the old Courthouse building and a fully lit pecan tree in the adjacent town green, There's even a deck where you can wine, dine and enjoy a perfect sunset above the tree tops. Lovely indeed. Both dining areas have full menus and full bar service. The food is wonderful and I recommend the steak (either rib eye or filet). Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Vegetable sides include roasted asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes that are cooked to perfection. My dining companion opted for the chicken pasta...such a misnomer because this dish tastes like it could do justice at any big city high priced place...depth and nuance of flavours. But the prices here are so reasonable you'll do a double take when you get the low bill. The menu also offers a variety of dinner salads which are outstanding. All in all, this is a wonderful surprise to find when so many other places in rural South Carolina neglect the vegetables or care in preparation. The only negatives...The Bank of Chesterfield is only open for dinners from Wed. through Saturday.
