I've been coming to Spare Pair for close to 15 years for eye exams/contacts/glasses so I think that says it all! The staff has always been super nice + welcoming and there's never a wait past my appointment time. Dr. Bienstock is personable as well as knowledgeable, and always gives a thorough exam. I want to give a good review because I've been going here for years, but I just have to be honest about this place. The quality of service is going down. I usually just get glasses here but I decided to see the optometrist too, thinking it'd be convenient. He is NOT skilled. He kept debating with me that I needed a certain prescription which I couldn't see out of & which made me dizzy. I went back to my ophthalmologist & was given the right prescription. But then the optometrist gave me HELL to change the prescription from his incorrect one to the right one & threatened to have me pay for everything all over again. I had to get my insurance company involved to fight it. I would highly recommend you go to an ophthalmologist instead. Now, my $700 glasses broke after a few months, but they're insured so I was told that I can get a new pair. Yet it's been weeks & no one has gotten back to me. I called them to inquire & it seems they didn't even place the order. I give them another week & no word. So I call again & now they can't locate the glasses. They're so careless & unprofessional. A horrible "doctor" & horrible service for glasses. Edited to add that 3 weeks later, my glasses finally came in. But guess what?! They gave me the wrong damn prescription. I'm livid. They have to send them back for the right prescription & Lord knows how much longer that'll take. When I pick up the right pair, that will be my LAST time stepping foot into this crappy place. read more

I've been going here for years and never had a problem. This year was different. 2 things happened: they changed the brand of contacts they recommended. He didn't sell the same contacts anymore so the brand he does have, he decided to prescribe which changed my base curve which irritated my eyes to the point I was wearing glasses for a few weeks. Base curve gives you how the contact sits on your eye. Too tight, irritating and less oxygen going to your eye, if too loose moves around when blinking. It took me time to figure it out, first changed my mascara thinking maybe it's that causing it, and I finally figured out that the other contact brand is a completely diff size. Why would he give me a diff size?!? Oh I see bc he didn't have my brand so let's sell me something else to make it fit. The size he got irritated the heck out of my eyes. ‍ Blood shot . I called on phone & told employees so they said since you have another appointment with your son, you can ask him when you come and so I did & during my sons appointment he said you need to make a separate appointment. As if am trying to get a 2 for 1 appointment. Lol I ended up calling 1-800 contacts for extra $20 to change my prescription back to the acuvue lens oasis plus I had for years that never had an issue with. Literally same strength & everything but diff brand. Rather not deal with them. They 1800 contacts couldn't understand why a place would change the brand that has a completely diff curve. Secondly that same day for my son's appointment who is 11 was trying on the trial pair of contacts. The lady was very nice but unfortunately the contacts ended up falling at first on the table, then again on the chair and telling him just to clean it off in solution & reinsert it into his eye. That little room is terrible to try contacts in. Barely big enough as a closet. The last straw was when it fell on the floor. No Covid??? I was very upset, loyal customer for years. Family members, bf too I sent there. Ophthalmologist took employees side. Am done going here. No one is going to tell my son to put something that fell on a dirty floor, to put it back in his eye again. People walk all over the floor. Unbelievable. Won't be seeing me there. I was in need of assistance with repairing the lens on a pair of glasses as well as scheduling an appointment for a new vision screening. I was told by the representative Lisa I would only wait a few minutes. After they took care of one customer ahead of me. When they were done with that customer, a new person walked into the store and they then took care of her and I had to wait another twenty minutes. This was completely unprofessional and unfair service. I am not recommending this place or these unprofessional staff to anyone. I will not shop here. read more

Found really nice frames for $50.00, ordered my glasses which are complicated lenses. Told the clerk I wanted the lenses made thin which has never been a problem. Was assured it would be done. Given a price which was very reasonable. The next day I sensed that the thinness was not clarified so I called the store. Sure enough, what I wanted was an additional $105.00. Lesson: be very explicit in what you want or don't want. read more

Excellent, excellent service! First called to see if they took our Vision plan insurance. They took the time to look up the info and tell me what my options would be. When I got to the store, I was pleasantly surprised to see they mostly group the frames by cost and that the prices were easily visible on the frames. (Most places like to hide that info it seems). They were also great at explaining, if we went over our insurance plan's recommended allowance, what our out-of-pocket cost would be. Honestly, I used to think you had to go to a Costco to get prices this fair or a good selection. You don't. You can support a local business like this one that knows what it's doing, has amazing customer service and fair prices. read more

I went there for an eye exam in June. My script was new so I had glasses made. I couldn't get used to them. They were giving me a headache. I went back in October and told them. The Dr wanted another $40 to see me again.... REALLY!? I'll NEVER go there again!!! I've gone to the Dr in Costco for years but decided to try someone who took my new insurance. Going back to Costco. He's much nicer and more professional! read more

First visit to the Spare Pair Vision Center went pretty well. Had to wait about 10 minutes after our appt time, but the doctor was very helpful and took the time to explain everything which was appreciated. On the follow-up visit everything went wrong. I had to wait an hour and a half for five minutes with the doctor. I was scheduled for the wrong day, came in on Friday and was told the appt was Saturday. When I informed them this was wrong and I couldn't come back the next day, the best they could do was ask that I come back in an hour. When I came back in an hour they couldn't find my file, which they didn't start to look for until I had been waiting 10 or 15 minutes. They acted annoyed that I was bothered by all this. I understand that everyone makes mistakes, but they should have bent over backwards to rectify the problem instead of causing me further inconvenience. read more

Went in because big box botched my glasses. Dr Bienstock gave me a very thorough exam and found problems in the back of my eyes caused by Diabetes. His recommendations saved me from future problems...I won't trust my eyes to anyone else ever again! read more

Gina was incredible. I went in today to get fixed for some contacts and glasses. She went above and beyond to find me the perfect pair. Extremely helpful and patient. Dr Bienstock is extremely professional and informative. I was in and out in about an hour. I have very high astigmatism and to my surprise they had a pair of trial contacts in house! This is unheard of for my prescription. Other places usually have to order a pair of trial contacts which can be a 2 week ordeal, then another 2 weeks to order a yearly supply. This place will be my primary location for all of my optical needs. Other staff is also extremely helpful. read more

Was told it would take a week to get them, but I told her I needed them ASAP. Got a call 3 days later that they were in! Picked them up and was very pleased. read more

I can't say enough about how pleased I was to have my eye exam and order my new glasses and my new prescription from Spare Pair. Dr Beinstock was recommended by a friend many years ago and at that point I was pretty sure that my days of wearing contact lenses were over because my lenses became so uncomfortable and my vision was extremely poor with the lens in I actually saw better with them, I went to see Dr Beinstock and explained that I've been wearing my glasses daily but missed the comfort and convenience that my contact lenses previously offered so Dr Beinstock gave me a great exam very thorough and fitted me for lenses that were the most comfortable lenses that I have ever tried. I recently went back because due to age my vision had changed I no longer could see close, I couldn't read a menu, I was feeling my eyes being constantly tired I called Spare Pair and asked for the soonest appointment the very friendly women on the phone offered me an appointment the very next day I went in and explained to Dr Beinstock just how concerned I was because this vision difference had seemed so significant that I couldn't help but to worry, Dr Beinstock gave me a great exam adjusted my prescription slightly and reassured me that all was fine and it was only a slight adjustment that I needed to my prescription and my eyes were very healthy, he adjusted my contact lens prescription and I asked to be fitted for eyeglasses which I found a pair that looks great and are incredibly comfortable and most importantly I see very well Dr Beinstock did a great job all around and I am happy to be a patient and I can't recommend him if higher If I tried. I also must mention that the prices were great for both the exam and the lenses Andrew Beinstock and his staff are terrific and if your uncertain where to go give them a shot I would be shocked to find if the same experience I had wasn't the same.
