We were staying a few blocks away, and needed a few items for dinner. We were traveling in December, and it was late and not many places were open due to the upcoming holidays. We picked up a few local beers and ciders, and some noshables to take to our room. Thank goodness this place was open because it was the only place in town open besides the liquor store! We were happy with our purchases!

It's not as bad as a Mace, which really wants to stitch you up! The ready meals are of good quality and it even has a walk in beer fridge! I would give it 4 stars, but must strongly protest at the cost of the birthday cards. They're not priced, so you take them to the cash desk kind of guessing what you would think they are worth. You would be wrong.... £4.00 for a basic birthday card? £4.00? Really? This smacks of a scam to stick it to the unfortunate sod who has left it to the last minute. We'll pay anything to get out of a fix right? Wrong. My local village shop came up with the goods for £1.10 I know this is only a few quid, but £4.00 for a birthday card. Not even a fancy one at that. Come on Co-op there's no need for this kind of thing!

If any store keeper/retail outlet wants to know the real meaning of customer service then this is where they need to visit. It is a little hidden on a side street, although I had no problem finding the store with Apple Maps on my phone. It's pretty much your typical Tesco Express - the layout felt familiar even though I have never visited this store before, I instantly knew where everything was. I could find the small number of items I came in for. There is also a Costa Express coffee machine at the front of the store. The staff seemed friendly enough, and the store was clear of clutter making it easy to get around. Prices are a little inflated - but again it's what you pay for in a "convenience" store. 4*

All the usual selections you would expect from a local convenience store. The fruit and veg took a hit when they shuffled things around last year so there seems to be a focus on less healthy options including ready meals, sweets and chocolates. Not somewhere where you would do a full weekly shop but for those items you've forgotten or last minute grabs it's ideal. The layout of the store isn't great with narrow aisles and often there are cages to be unloaded blocking the way. Similarly there are only two self service tills with the main tills not often manned until a massive queue forms. Staff are hit and miss....some are polite but others see it as a huge hassle that you might not want to use self service! Overall it does the job!!

In fact, I think the 'Local' tag actually indicates that it's a sort of open-all-hours place. I think this one is open from 6am til 11pm every day. This is a nice little branch, well laid out and brightly lit. Staff are helpful and friendly. It's located at the end of the Orchard Shops, near the library. They stock a good range of products, but it really doesn't have as good a range as the Yarm High Street branch. Also, I notice that a lot of the prices are higher in the Local than in the High Street branch, even though they are both Sainsburys. For example, a 750 ml bottle of Sainsburys mineral water was about 59p at the Sainsburys Local, and the same bottle was about 34p in the High Street branch of Sainsburys.

They have a good range of fresh fruit and veg, and the wine selection is quite extensive. There are often some good offers on the wine and beers if you buy more than one bottle. In the chilled cabinet at the back of the shop there is a lot of different cheeses and cold meats which are handy for packed lunches. They also do bread and rolls and I have been known to nip here for them when we run out during a barbecue. They also sell tobacco and you can top up your mobile, gascard and electric card here. The staff are really nice and if you want a carrier bag you have to ask for one.
