For the uninitiated, Booths is a supermarket chain based in the North West of England which prides itself on servicing the community with locally sourced produce.
My local store in Windermere is situated right next to the Railway Station and has a large car park to the rear with plenty of spaces and dedicated spots for disabled/parents with small children very close to the entrance.
OK so its a supermarket, what's the big deal?
Firstly the produce is of excellent quality - locally sourced wherever possible but also providing foods from further afield too. They have a fresh fish counter (never smelly which is a great sign of freshness), a well-stocked butchers counter - often with local fell-bred lamb, a hot foods counter with cooked chicken, gammon, pies, jacket spuds etc, a lovely deli counter with amazingly tempting goodies and a fab cheese counter with a good range of local and non-local cheeses.
Secondly, alcohol! They have a large selection of bottled beers from all over the UK and further afield. So much is the choice, that I often spend ages in the beer aisle alone, trying to decide which ones to buy. To be honest, the choice is way better than any of the larger supermarket chains. They also have a fine selection of wines to suit all budgets - another dedicated aisle which I seem to spend too long in!
Thirdly, free coffee! If you're a Booths Cardholder (which is free to join) you can enjoy a free coffee on the house every day! I love freebies...
And the downside...price! Booths is a much smaller enterprise than your Asda/Tesco etc but is more akin to Waitrose quality and as such prices tend to be a little inflated and maybe in Windermere, inflated slightly for the tourist market!
Being savvy to this, I went to see the store manager one day and secured an interview for my lad who now works there at weekends - as such I now get staff discount!! Go me. :-) read more
