Living 4 hours away from this Filipino supermarket makes me shed a tear a little. I was in Houston…read morefor the weekend and I asked my friend who was originally from Houston where a good Filipino spot would be to eat. He immediately said "Seafood City! It has everything!" So we went and it indeed had everything. The longest line was for Grill City. In all honesty, I feel like Grill City is a bit overhyped. The kare kare didn't taste like my father-in-law's. He makes the best kare kare. But you can't beat home cooking. Too bad my FIL is in CA. The liempo was good, but how can you really mess up grilled pork belly? However, I did like Sizzle. Their bangus sisig on a grilled platter was so delicious! I was jealous of my husband's pick. I also really loved the items at Valerio. Reminds me of Panorama City in CA. Everything here was light and bright and it smelled clean. Would I come back? Only if I'm in town. Next time I'll bring a big cooler.

I wanted to buy a single yolk mooncake. Next to the one is this photo there were 3x yolk and then 2x yolk and then this one which which was not labeled with or without yolk so it seemed as tho this one would be a single yolk. Upon opening, though, there was no yolk in the mooncake. Went back and the staff where not at all accommodating! Instead blamed us for not asking before purchase. They did not care we were unsatisfied and refused any accountability for the way their labels were set up. There was one male employee who was nice however 2 of the female managers were both very snide and rude and even instructed us that we could buy the one we did want at full price with a smirk! Will not ever be recommending 99 ranch to my friends again.

The produce was well organized, and there were several employees restocking the shelves as we shopped. For this week, I wanted to get ingredients to make California rolls, Banh Mi, Beef Pho, Spring Rolls, and Hot Pot, and was able to find all of the ingredients I needed here except for the French baguette for the banh mi. However, since it's right across the street from an HEB, it wasn't a major inconvenience. We also picked up some pantry items like snacks, tea, and instant ramen, and they had a really good selection of items to choose from. Overall, I'm happy to have anotrrrhueuoyroyoutoutoor Asian grocery store in the Katy area to choose from, and the prices are comparable to 99 Ranch and Hmart. The crab legs? Absolute weapons of mass deliciousness. And the whole Dungeness crab? Let's just say if I ever get stranded on a desert island, I want this crab to be my volleyball companion, because we'd never be apart. Seriously, steam, boil, whatever, but once you cracked 'em open, it was like Poseidon himself whispered, "You chose wisely." I'd been on a failed scavenger hunt across Houston Texas looking for crab legs, striking out left and right, and honestly, I'm now glad I failed everywhere else because destiny clearly led me here. Joselu deserves a medal, a crown, and maybe his own parade. Friendly, helpful, and somehow knew exactly what I needed before I knew it myself. The man is basically the seafood whisperer. 10/10, Annapolis-approved, Poseidon would eat here.
