Living 4 hours away from this Filipino supermarket makes me shed a tear a little. I was in Houston…read morefor the weekend and I asked my friend who was originally from Houston where a good Filipino spot would be to eat. He immediately said "Seafood City! It has everything!" So we went and it indeed had everything. The longest line was for Grill City. In all honesty, I feel like Grill City is a bit overhyped. The kare kare didn't taste like my father-in-law's. He makes the best kare kare. But you can't beat home cooking. Too bad my FIL is in CA. The liempo was good, but how can you really mess up grilled pork belly? However, I did like Sizzle. Their bangus sisig on a grilled platter was so delicious! I was jealous of my husband's pick. I also really loved the items at Valerio. Reminds me of Panorama City in CA. Everything here was light and bright and it smelled clean. Would I come back? Only if I'm in town. Next time I'll bring a big cooler.

I wanted to buy a single yolk mooncake. Next to the one is this photo there were 3x yolk and then 2x yolk and then this one which which was not labeled with or without yolk so it seemed as tho this one would be a single yolk. Upon opening, though, there was no yolk in the mooncake. Went back and the staff where not at all accommodating! Instead blamed us for not asking before purchase. They did not care we were unsatisfied and refused any accountability for the way their labels were set up. There was one male employee who was nice however 2 of the female managers were both very snide and rude and even instructed us that we could buy the one we did want at full price with a smirk! The catfish filets were crispy on the outside, flaky and tender inside and seasoned just right. The fried shrimp were huge, juicy, and packed with flavor. They didn't skimp on size or taste! The gumbo was rich and savory. The corn on the cob was spicy, buttery, and bursting with flavor. The chicken wings had a crispy skin, juicy meat, and bold seasoning The hushpuppies were crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, with a hint of sweetness that balances all the savory. While the fried okra was a little soggy for my taste, the crack ranch that it comes with was literally crack. The oysters had a bit too much batter but were decent. All in all, Lotus Seafood delivers big on flavor, portions, and Southern comfort. I can't wait to go back!
