For the more adventurous, take a deep hike into the valley and enjoy the lush landscape. Also very family friendly and dog friendly. Only wished there was more signage to help us navigate the web of trails. Update: We were able to hike part of the Slate Canyon trail yesterday. It is an 8.5 mi. loop, considered a "difficult" rating. Due to time constraints we were only able to check out about a quarter of it. Very beautiful view of the cliffs on the trail, and excellent resting spots with good shade. Very family friendly, with some flat parts of the trail and nice climbing as well. Carrier recommended for toddlers.

It didnt drown out my heavy breathing (out of shape!), but it was a nice sound of nature. Im sure you can spend hours walking around the canyon and find neat little spots to relax and check out. I didnt encounter very many people on the trail so if you like that, this is definitely your place. This trail is dog friendly as well. I saw a guy who had 3 pups with him and they seemed to be loving the trail. Id rate this as a moderate difficulty, and maybe best for kids 6+, though im sure younger ones could do it. Overall, very enjoyable trail. No Starbucks at the top, so pack enough water! Be prepared for some incline and uphill, but take it slow and steady and you'll be rewarded with great views!
