Unsure if photos truly show damage if belt, but the following is the explanation: my mother…read morepurchased a belt with excitement of finding a leather shop. First of all, at last second Dan up-charged 125 for the belt saying that the belt is alligator (I don't know about leather so I can't confirm or deny this) though every price post displayed in the store state belts being 75. My mother still had excitement about the product, so we took his word for reasoning of up-charge. The tip of the belt was slightly unglued so he glued it before measuring belt holes for size. Stated to check back in at the store after walking around if belt didn't dry properly. Belt didn't dry properly and, in fact, the once black tip ended up discolored post glue drying. On our way back, upon further inspection belt seems to be "chewed up". When we showed up back at the store Dan was gone, and gentlemen he shares storefront with, Jon, said to take it up with Dan. Dan, though, knew we were leaving that afternoon, so it was a bit frustrating that he left shop early and we were leaving out of town with a bad product. And to add to the situation, receipt shows Jon's storefront information, so even more frustrating that he claimed he couldn't help. Dan had also said we could call him, so okay, we tried, and phone number went straight to voicemail with a message that stated "I no longer accept calls because there's too many soliciting calls". Well. Very unfortunate we couldn't get this resolved while in town and it seems we won't be able to via phone. More due diligence could have been done on our part of course, but that doesn't exclude a bad product and bad service. Oh yeah, and all this doesn't even include when he asked my age and when I said 30 he made some comment about wanting to "adopt me" yikes. People wonder where all these old school craftsmen stores have gone? Well, sorry but I'd rather purchase from Amazon where I can return something with certainty and not get an inappropriate comment from a man 3x my age. ‍

Finally a store for MEN! Oak & Adze is a diversified lodge of masculine products for refined…read moregentlemen, rugged lumberjacks, rough and tumble woodsmen, or soulful artisans. Perusing this new shop on St. George Street was a delight for me but I wished I had my husband in tow so he could pick out what he likes. They have the most fascinating products including hand carved sling shots from California Beech, hunting knives, pipes, and beard and grooming products. They are also plenty of axes because Oak & Adze philosophy is, "Every man needs to own at least one ax." The all-natural beard and grooming products are also locally made here in St. Augustine! One thing I had my eye on was their colorful "Seed Bombs" to use with their Sling Shots. The Seed bombs are in the Slingshot ammo area and have a seed mix containing 10 different wildflowers inside them. Their website states, "To activate the Seed Bombs soak them in water until they become soft and squishy. Then take your slingshot and shoot them in any direction you would like. Once the seed is shot watch the seed bomb blow up on impact causing a cloud of color. Have fun shooting and gardening!" It's wonderful to have a store that's a celebration of masculinity and a haven for "Gentlemanly Men" but women can still have a great time there too!

I certainly have nothing against guys exhibiting heightened levels of estrogen - so do not read this as any sort of bashing. (my own wife, at times, questions my own imbalances, and the very fact that I feel compelled to go on and on apologizing for my clear position here is paradoxically pathetic, but there it is. back to this toystore...) Cool stuff. A great inventory of Proraso - an italian shaving products powerhouse. A little background here might help: This company started in Florence as a cosmetics company in 1908 but didn't move into shaving products until 1948. While you can also get Proraso @ Target and other big-boxes, you won't be enjoying all the other "mancraft" that stocks this square footage. Great leather products - serious bags and notebooks. Shoe shine kits, axes, camping stoves, slingshots, razors, pipes, beard oils. Just a whole bunch of awesomeness packed in this little store-front. (I'm going to ask my wife if I can go again...) ;)

Who knew customizing a hat could be so much fun?! Whether you're going solo, with your spouse, or…read morewith your bestie, Antler & Crown in St. Augustine is such a unique experience! My husband had been watching videos about custom hats for months when he discovered this little gem. When we walked in, Josh was putting the finishing touches on a one-of-a-kind hat for another customer. It was absolutely beautiful! I immediately started thinking, Wait a minute...maybe I need one too! My husband had a pretty good idea of what he wanted, which was helpful, but I have no doubt Josh could have guided him in the right direction regardless. Watching Josh work his magic, shaping and manipulating the hat into exactly what my husband envisioned, was fascinating! It's truly an art! And the fun doesn't stop there! The shop is filled with options to personalize your hat. Want to bedazzle it and add some sparkle? Go for it! Prefer something rugged, classic, or sophisticated? They've got you covered. There are endless ways to create something that reflects your personality. I kept thinking how much fun this would be as a girls' day, date night, or outing with a sibling. You could each walk away with a completely different, one-of-a-kind creation! And here's the thing...you don't have to be a cowboy to rock a great hat! It's fashion, it's personality, it's a statement, and it's a little piece of Americana! What makes this shop even cooler is its location in the heart of historic St. Augustine. Florida's cattle history dates back to the Spanish settlers who brought cattle to the area centuries ago. How fitting that a shop celebrating this timeless style is located in a city with such deep roots in that history! How's that for a little history lesson with your shopping? Whether you're looking for a custom hat , see one on the shelf and love just how it looks or just curious about the process, stop in, meet Josh, and watch the magic happen. Have fun, get creative, and walk away with something that's uniquely YOU! Hats off to Antler & Crown for bringing such a fun and memorable experience to St. Augustine!
