I'm giving two stars because I'm not a mean person, but my experience tonight was really disappointing. I ordered two adult meals and one child's meal. The ordering process took about 15 minutes because the system was having issues, but I was patient and told the employee it was fine since I wasn't in a rush. When the food came out, the system completely shut down, so they couldn't process any payments. I handed my card to the employee and told him he could either bring it back once the system was working or I'd settle up at the end. About 25 minutes into our meal, he came to the table, returned my card, and told us, "Your meals are on us tonight," which I thought was a really kind gesture. I even planned to leave a cash tip before leaving. But as my son was finishing his meal, the same employee came back and said, "The systems are back up," and stood there waiting for us to pay. It made things awkward, especially after being told the meal was complimentary due to the inconvenience. I completely understand that things happen and that businesses need to be paid, but the way it was handled came across as unprofessional and confusing. read more

I was in the Topeka area for a short while recently and I made my usual Spangles run...the only difference was I went to the 29th St. location vs the one on Wanamaker. Omg... huge mistake. In my opinion, 29th St. doesn't compare. It didn't seem like the same burger joint at all. I realize cooks vary, but my goodness. It appeared that the top on the shaker was loose and I got the majority of the contents...salt! Not happy, At ALL, neither was my palate or tummy. The same with the onion rings. Why in The World would you sprinkle so much salt on onion rings? I've NEVER not been able to eat onion rings due to an infestation of salt. Unsure what happened, but Please fix this. The best thing about my meal was the ice, literally. My daughter's burger was the same. She immediately complained. Love, love, love Spangles, but not planning to return to 29th St. location. It was a little more convenient at the time, but I'm more convinced than ever that all convenience is not good convenience. It was a totally different experience whereas my burger didn't even come close to what the Wanamaker location serves. Idk??? I'm dumbfounded, but believe me, I won't stay that way. There are other locations of this popular Kansas chain, but this one was close by when we got the hungries. We chose the drive-thru and took our food to a park. Bookguy ordered a turkey pita wrap that had deli turkey, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and pickles on buttered pita. He liked it and said it was very filling. It came with tasty fries that we shared. Bookguy decided to leave room for dessert after he saw the creation I ordered so we didn't finish the fries, but they were excellent. I splurged on a turtle slide: layers of soft serve, gourmet chocolate, sea salt caramel and your choice of Snickers, Reese's Pieces, M&M's or peanut. I chose Snickers. Wow! It was wonderful! The soft serve was creamy and topping was so thick it was a bit challenging to get through it. I didn't notice if it came in different sizes at the time, but it was so rich I wish I had been able to get a smaller one. Bookguy was inspired by my dessert and we went back to get him the same thing but with peanuts. We were both close to food coma status when we finished eating. Lucky for us we had dogs to walk. Kansas folks are fortunate to have Spangles in several location around the state so if you want to give them a try: road trip! read more

I have to agree. I've been to 3 different Spangles locations so that doesn't make me an expert so to speak, but I feel I tasted enough of their food to relieve make a well thought-out decision. First what I like about the place is that each place is lit up, it's easily seen from the roads. They have signs that usually have a lot of promotions and items which kind of gives you an idea of what you may want to eat when you pull in. The inside is the best part of the place. To hear timeless music playing and you get sucked back in a time of poodle skirts and saddle shoes and sock hop dances is always a Nostalgia that can't be beat. However that's where it ends. I have to agree with other people, that their food is somewhat subpar. On this particular day I had one of their breakfast bowls and it wasn't bad but it wasn't fantastic. I think it had more to do with the fact that I was hungry. When you're hungry you tend to overlook a lot. But it just didn't have that wow factor. The donuts were good but I do believe they were fried instead of baked and there is a difference in the texture and the taste due to that fact. There is way too much cinnamon sugar on those donuts. They're not the first donut place to overindulge in a topping thinking that it makes it better when actually it makes a kind of difficult to eat. I wish that they would just have plain Donuts that you could dip into the icing, I think that would improve the flavor. Overall Spangles is not a bad restaurant it's just not one that you'll go out of your way to get to. It's usually one that you decide to go to when there's no other choice. They could easily change that by upping their game just a little bit read more

My family really loves not getting our food. Apparently on Thursday night you can't pay with cash. The young lady took our order and gave us our cups.we went to hand her our money and she told us that they don't accept cash only cards. I called the home office and talked to a lady and she said that they sure do take cash. A supervisor will get ahold of us. I would not recommend going to this restaurant at all. A lot better places to eat across town and they take cash. read more

My husband and I only WISH that Spangles Headquarters would put a restaurant in KC! Every time we drive through Topeka - we both already know, we're definitely stopping at Spangles for a burger! I've been to several Spangles and they are all consistently bad. There's just nothing remarkable about their food. Their service is usually slow. I leave there feeling like I ate a gut bomb. They offer spices to add to their fries. These do nothing to improve the flavor of their fries. The quality of the food is very similar to Sonic Drive-in. That's not saying much, but I feel it gives people a frame of reference. read more
