Stopped at Bobo's upon recommendation from friends who have dined there. I pulled in to one of the spaces and waited for a carhop to come out and take my order. They were busy shuffling orders out to cars and I waited maybe three minutes. Explain that it was my first trip to Bobo's and ordered a double cheeseburger, onion rings and a Coke. The carhop said that she was surprised I wouldn't order a shake on my first trip. So I added a Oreo/caramel shake to my order. Bobo's is a cute local hamburger joint that has been serving Topeka for years. I really don't go there even though I drive by it daily. I decided to try it out since my mom was in the Hospital and I wanted to grab lunch nearby. It was delicious so now I add it to my list for hamburgers. I stopped in last night 5/21 with my lil doggy Hershel. They have a small quaint inside dining as well as a drive up/car-hop-they come out to take your order. I pulled into the Car Hop area and was greatly fairly quickly. I ordered a Cheeseburger and of course Onion Rings-theirs are delicious! I asked the car hop if they had a kids burger which I wanted to order for my dog. She said they did not but that they have Pup Cups, so I said we would take one snd then I saw a hotdog on the menu so I ordered a plain hotdog no bun for him as well. We waited maybe around 10 minutes for our food which was no big deal. I think for my meal a cheeseburger, onion rings and drink plus hotdog $ pup cup totaled around $17. We had an unexpected and unplanned tripped to Topeka today and after taking care of business needed a quick bite before heading back to KC. We could have hit the same ole same chain restaurant that we have here in town but I wanted to try something unique to Topeka! So, Bobo's it was! Every item we got felt like it was prepared fresh after we ordered it and highlights were the cheeseburger , hotdog, and tenderloin. You can't replace that worn in cooktop that has all that grilled in flavor. Everything else was good too, nothing unexpected. We also got their house-made root beer, this was good but didn't have any bite, definitely vanilla forward. The service was pretty quick and the server was nice! It was a pretty quiet time, around 2pm when we stopped in. So, nothing to crazy happening. If you are stopping through, definitely give the burger, hotdog, or tenderloin a try - hubs thought their onion rings were also worth a grab and definitely seemed breaded in house. This tiny little restaurant has been around forever and has the sweetest lady that owns the place (Not Bobo, but I think she said 3rd owner.) When I think of a vintage diner, Bobo's fits the bill. First off, it's tiny with seating for no more than 20 people. It appears that a good part of what they do comes from the drive-in business. They've been open since 1948 with pretty much the same menu and all items made by hand (hand cut fries, onion rings, and the apples for apple pie). We chose to sit inside at the counter. Burgers, fries, a hot dog, onion rings, and milk shakes. That was pretty much our order. I'd say the Spanish burger and strawberry shake were the star items. Bobo's is a great little diner to get a bite to eat and a whole homemade Apple Pie to go. In 2007, Guy Fieri filmed Diners, Drive-ins and Dives there and I can see why. I don't know what particular dishs brought Guy there but I'm guessing it had to be their Double Spanish Burger. This was not just some pre-formed round, flat burger, cooked to death with toppings. It was fresh ground steak, loosely packed and spiced up. It was super juicy and full of flavor. I wish we had a Bobo's here in Buffalo.. To top it off the whole staff was real friendly. We were there on a weekday afternoon between lunchtime and dinnertime so for a while we were the only ones in there. If you're looking to take a step back in time, Bobo's could be just what you want. Bobo's in Topeka, KS might be considered a historic drive-in because it's been open for more than 50 years. One can just imagine carhops on roller skates coming to take your order. Today it was a person in sneakers. The menu is a giant painted board on the wall as you drive up. There are faded prices on the board, but they seem to be accurate because we got two sandwiches with fries and onion rings for about $10. That's historic! There's a small eat-in area, but it's closed right now. The busy, double row of parking spaces is stretched out under a roof from the main building, kind of like Sonic but without the lighted, electronic menu. Simple, like the good old days. The menu is straightforward and also simple. I had wanted the bean soup, but they were out so I got the melted cheese sandwich with onion rings. It was exactly like it sounded--a white hamburger bun with a slice of cheese that was melted. Different but tasty. The onion rings were really good and appeared to be made there, not pre-frozen. Bookguy had a cheeseburger and fries which he liked. The portions were pre-SuperSize me style, meaning it was just right for lunch but no leftovers. Apparently they are known for their apple pie, but we didn't get it this time. If we ever get back to Topeka, we'll give it a try. read more

Stopped here after working an event at the capital building. Ordered steak burger and fries and water. Water tasted like water would in that area. Fries were warm and salty even before adding more salt from the salt container on the table. Burger was good. Had pickles and mustard and ketchup on it. And maybe a little bit of lettuce and some onions. I put a little ketchup in my basket to dip my fries into. The ketchup bottles are already on the table but they were shorter than expected. We were seated immediately at a booth directly behind where we were standing when we walked in. Order directly from the menu behind the counter as the restaurant is very small. The atmosphere is like you're in a local hallmark movie town and the workers and random customers converse with each other as they go about their meals or tasks. Even a couple employees were sitting at the upfront seating eating a meal and fellowship. I would try this again in five heartbeats. This was my 437th Diners Drive in's and Dives Restaurant. I ventured out from Lawrence Kansas to visit this landmark roadside stand. I sat at the counter and enjoyed a conversation with the manager who gave me the history of the place as well as friendly small town welcomeness. I sampled the menu with a pork sandwich and a Spanish burger some onion rings and the apple pie. All it's were what I expect, acceptable yet nothing spectacular.
