Best American type crunchy shell tacos I've ever had and I've had a lot! Fresh crunchy and hot with lots of cheese!

Tortilla Jacks is a Topeka staple. It's not fancy, it's not authentic. But it is good. Don't let the girl that works the register scare you off, she just lacks the ability to smile. read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Taco Salad - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

Tortilla Jack's new location might not have the ambiance and classic feel of their old location, but I found the food to be exactly the same. I think the interior is smaller than their old location, but they do now have a drive through. On my most recent visit, I got a couple of the hard shell tacos with hot sauce and a side of chips and white cheese. It hit the spot. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I apologize sincerely that I do not have a photograph for this review today. However tortilla Jack's I'm sorry to say I don't know what was going on with your meat that day it was the most horrible thing I ever had tasted it was scorched it was not a pleasing purchase. read more

My gamy and I love Tortilla Jacks. They moved their location in May 2024. It is located on 21st St. 1 block West of Topeka Blvd. On the South side of 29th. Nothing has changed as far as the food and prices. Delicious and a lot for your money. My favorite food is the Grand Taco Salad with extra tomatoes and sour cream. We always get the cinnamon crispy chips to take home. read more

Excellent customer experience and good food! It was my first time there and Tortilla Jacks did not disappoint. I'll go again!

Great little old school taco joint. I had a hard shell and soft shell taco. Both were very good but the soft shell tortilla was very good and the way to go. Also ordered white queso and a cup of chili. Queso wasn't white but was good. Both came out in a tiny cup and not really a good value at $3.99 each. Overall I liked it a lot and would return for sure. read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

The chips were stale or had oil on them, did include sauce on the side as requested, and asked for napkin to wipe off my cup since had pop all over it- so didn't get a napkin -one staff member wiped the soda off my cup with his bare hands. This is the 2nd time issue with food/service. I'd been going here since I went to WU. The ambiance is well same desk and chairs same as at their previous location. read more

Was there on a Saturday for my first try after the wonderful reviews by many. I hadn't been for a long time at the old location because nothing ever tasted right. So, new location, rave reviews had to be better...right? I was disappointed. Was greeted by a cashier l, that was absolutely rude. Took my order then...oh I forgot...we don't have buns for that, you'll have to order something else. Tone was very nasty. I was disappointed...the food I did get was bland to say the least. I won't be back, the recipes have been changed so much it is mediocre at best read more

I used to eat here frequently as a child, and I recently went back as an adult. It felt like stepping back in time: everything is exactly the same as I remember it. For a fast food Mexican restaurant, I think this place is great. I particularly enjoy the hard shell tacos with the light, crispy shells. I chose the hot sauce with my meal, and it wasn't hot at all. I could use a little more spice with the food, but that's really my only complaint. The employees were polite and helpful, and the food came out quickly. read more

Still like the food but the place is always gross. I'll be shocked if I ever come here and they have at least one clean table. Staff is teenage sadness; they never smile, never say thank you for coming in... Nada. I love supporting local establishments but they make it hard when they act annoyed that you're even there. read more

Best place to get a taco in the city of Topeka if not the whole world. They also have a really good taco burger really really good burritos especially their ham burrito, they also have a really good nacho platter I get mine with black olives, shredded cheese, nacho cheese, beef. So flipping good. read more

The food is inexpensive and very good. I love the Madres Enchilada and the Light Taco. Interior needs upgrading. It's like steping back into the 1980's. They use Leonard Meats, a local butcher company in Topeka. Service is always fast and efficient. read more

Burritos are my favorite thing to get. Love how thin the tortillas are. The sanchos are really good too!

My wife's family has been going to Tortilla Jack's religiously for years. The menu is simple with lots of options to add-on ingredients/topping with each and every item. My personal favorite is the nachos and topping them with cheese, salsa, sour cream, & jalapenos. The must-have item on the menu is the krustos (taco salad shell broken up with cinnamon & sugar on top). Beware - they are messy, but delicious! Lunch time, especially on the weekends, can be very busy, so get there early. read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Sign and front door to the restaurant. - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

I would not recommend this place if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. The food is comparable to Taco Bell with less options. It's not authentic which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case it is. If you want a regular degular ground beef taco that's lacking in flavor because you're starving then this is the spot for you. read more

It's been many moons since I ate at "TJ's." Memorable moments: Approaching the building, noting the NO GUNS poster, admiring the wood paneling interior, booths, and old school signage. Loads of charm. Also, a ham taco on the menu. Had to try it, wasn't too terrible but I preferred the more traditional taco meat options, such as beef or chicken. Real good, especially for Kansas. read more

This is one of my favorite Taco joints in town. I love the lite tacos because they are crisp & light - complete mess as they can collapse easily- but it's still great. The meat is not greasy & sauce is needed, but I like their hot sauce. Ingredients are always fresh. It helps that this is a local place so we support our community read more

whenever i went to tortilla jack's they had very upsetting service. For one the workers did not look happy to be there and they're very dirty, the tables were so disgusting and filthy. Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - tortilla jack's - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

Mostly I'm just here to post about how ridiculous the guy complaining about the price is. His receipt shows he paid $36 for food and drink for 4 people. I don't know what world he's living in where that's expensive for dining out. That's the price of 4 value meals at McDonalds. Where are you going that you can get food for 4 for cheaper? He said that his $36 could buy a meal for 4 at "a much nicer establishment." How absurd. Your bill at any sit down restaurant is going to be twice that. If you can't afford to eat out then stay home. Don't be entitled enough to think that a restaurant should take a loss to feed you. Real review: Tortilla Jacks is bomb. The Burracos are the best. read more

This place is INCREDIBLE. The prices are low and the food is soooo good. I loved their tacos and I'm a big fan of their El Presidente burrito. Also, the service is pretty fast! read more

The food is lacking in the seasoning department but the real issue is the pricing. Almost every item is at least $1 overpriced.

This place has gone down, this used to be a well known mom and pop shop. I had not eaten here in 15 years cause I moved to Colorado and today I tried it thinking it was still going to be great and it really sucked the Sancho tasted like cardboard with beef and the so called queso was nothing but just nacho cheese sauce no meat no rotel just plain ol cheese wiz cheese. I wasted $20 on something I know I can make better at home. read more

The employees were very nice. Older building but was very clean. Two of us ate for 20 bucks and we left stuffed. Not a fan of the enchilada personally but liked the burraco (taco burrito hybrid). read more

Attention Taco Tico and Taco Casa: THIS is how it's supposed to be done! Locally owned, great hours, and consistent food. I can't tell you this is my favorite Mexican Food joint in town, but they have a certain appeal - and they're cheap - which is always appealing to me. :) The food is real, the atmosphere comfortable and the service pleasant. And did I mention they are locally owned? Go if you haven't, try it, and keep your dollars in our community! read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Burrito Dinner - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

I think just about anyone who grew up In Topeka has got a favorite order at Tortilla Jacks. Cheap and delicious for anyone who isn't too snobby, the beef is delicious and the hot sauce is wonderful. I agree with the other reviewers here that is is kind of ridiculous how fast the kitchen is at preparing all the meals. If you're planning on eating in the restaurant, I'd say check out the light (ligeros) tacos. They're a little more expensive, but taste fantastic and are made with a wonderful soft shell that melts in your mouth. The chips aren't salted (which is a very good thing) and the tostadas, sanchos and burritos are delicious. As someone who isn't particularly fond of 'authentic' Mexican food, this place is great. read more

This seems to be a little local place frequented by family, college students and former college students who loved it back in the day! I wanted to try the Tacos jalapeño nachos because I was hoping for tons of jalapeños with a great cheese sauce. Turns out that the jalapeños are only in the tortilla chips and no extra jalapeños to be seen. It was still a nice appetizer, but not quite what I was expecting. We also tried a Burrito and the Sanchos (burritos without beans). The food was good and I would definitely stop there again when we are in the area! read more

Local business, just good American\Mexican food. Sunday specials are amazing. Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas are the best! read more

This place used to be the best in town! Now they have raised their prices to a point at which it is not worth it. A family of 4 now costs about 40 bucks. That's the equivalent of a much nicer establishment. It seems they have also changed their recipe so it doesn't taste nearly as good as it used too. We have been eating here for over 25 years but I am sad to say we will not be returning anymore. Bye bye Jacks. You sacrificed your customers for cash when the price of everything else is falling. We make pretty decent money, so if we are leaving I expect many more to follow suit. Loved you dearly so this review pains me to write. read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Jacks receipt. - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

T-Jacks.. A triple T (Topeka Tex-mex Tradition) threat! Don't go there expecting real mexican food, street tacos, or margaritas :) The "mexican" your mom made in the 80s is what they offer. They are good at it. We've been going there for 20yrs and it is consistent. We mainly go on Sunday around lunch and take advantage of their Sunday deals. Recently, I'd say in the past year or so though, man, just getting 5 tacos and 4 burritos seems to take forever, like 45min. There are orders in front of ours, but I'm not sure why it takes so long to make these simple things and pump them out quick. I don't see the regular staff around anymore, so maybe that's that change? Apparently everyone has told their friends about Sunday deals :( We'll still go back, but maybe not on Sunday's now... read more

Website stated they were open till ten pm. I get that things change. We normally do not have a complaint and like the place. Tried to stop by at about 8:30 tonight, was very rudely told they close at 8 through the door. Not cool. read more

I was referred to this place by a coworker and I'm so glad I checked it out. My husband and I are new to the area and are trying out some local joints. They were all very tasty. We'll definitely be back! read more

Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant - Mmmm...Nachos! - Mexican Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

Tortilla Jack's gets mad props for being a long-open and locally-owned restaurant in a town with very few of them. They also get respect and love because they were a staple of my childhood and adolescence growing up in Top-City. The Food: If you're looking for LA Taco Truck quality Mexican, this isn't it. But what it IS...is consistently good, yummy, cheap, fast, and hunger-attacking. And they've been making it happen for dozens of years. In a world of chain fast-food, I relish being able to go back to my home town and jump into a locally owned joint like Tortilla Jack's and fill up on cheap tacos while playing Galliga on the vintage game console. I also relish the gravel sized boulders of ice that fill each soda cup to the brim. You don't find that pellet sized ice many places. Long story short...whenever I'm back in Topeka, I have to eat at Tortilla Jack's. read more

Tortilla Jacks has a good following, and for special deals come on Sunday when they have Sanchos ,Burritos, and Tacos on sale. Their specialty is cheap mexican, and they hit the mark.
