I want to go back and try this but the last time was a bust. The only other two guys there were very very loud and made no effort to reduce their obnoxious activity. The lady who was working there took my order at first and then went back to the kitchen to prepare it. In the face of the disturbing noise by the two, I decided not to stay and wait for my food. I did not want to stiff the waitress/cook so I put a $20 bill on the table to pay for probably 4 chips and 2 drinks out of my diet cola and left. I never did see the waitress/cook again. Topeka is blessed with several good mexican food places so I would think this place would be more accommodating. I urge you to try this place only if the many others are closed. read more

First time I have been to this location. It's not much to look at. Table was very wonky. I don't think the customers cared. It seems like a lot of regulars. The service was quick and attentive. The food was ok. I had a steak burrito and rice. The steak was a little on the dry side. Not terrible in my opinion. My partner had tamales with rice and beans. They definitely were not impressed and stated on leaving that they would never go back. They get decent reviews and had a good crowd for a Wednesday night. But Mexican is Mexican is Mexican in Topeka. There really is no one restaurant that has separated themselves by doing it different or better. read more

I have not been to this restaurant in years! My friend and I decided to try this out. When we arrived it wasn't very busy inside-outside in the patio there were more people dining as it was a nice evening out. We chose to sit on the patio, we were taken to a table and given menu's. We received chips and salsa from our server who also at that time took our drink order. I decided on a Michelada and my friend had a Margarita. My drink was huge to my surprise and it was delicious! My friend did not like her margarita very well, I think it had to much mix in it. We placed our meal order with the server. A bus guy came out to clean a table directly across from us and we were caught off guard as he was chucking drinks out into the ground-he did this at another table he was clearing a bit after the first one. Seemed off and had he had a tub to carry dishes and drink ware dumping in the kitchen may have been a better idea. Another server brought out our food, it tasted fresh and hot but we were not checked on throughout our meal. My friend finally asked for a shot of tequila to add to her margarita which made it a little better. We were disappointed that service wasn't great, it really wasn't busy and even after we paid we went inside to get to the parking lot and there were only a few tables inside. My food was mediocre-I prob will not go back which is unfortunate, they do have a nice little patio, nothing fancy but it was decorated cute. read more

As someone who appreciates a good dive, I believe there's a fine line between a place affectionately known as a "dive" or "hole in the wall" with amazing food, and somewhere that is simply dirty and rundown. For me, a dive can be small and lacking fancy decor, but it can still be clean and well maintained. My last few visits here have not been as pleasant as they once were. The place seems dirty and rundown, and the flooring project has been going on for almost a year now, which is super puzzling. The last time I was in, the table was wobbly, the chairs were wobbly, and everything seemed in need of a good cleaning. I got an order of the popeye dip, but it was super watery and not pleasant. I think the spinach was not dried before adding it to the dip, or the dip needed more cheese to overcome the spinach and pico. I got an order of Ivan's tacos for my entree, and while they were good, they were very greasy. Overall, I like Margarita's, but this location needs some definite TLC. I hope the management takes steps to improve the cleanliness and maintenance of the restaurant to bring it back to its former charm. read more

I was visiting Topeka and when I got back to the hotel, I decided to order from this establishment. It is not even 2 miles away from the hotel. However, when it arrived, the food was super cold and it had just gotten picked up. On top of that, the nachos had little to no queso r, and the queso I ordered separately was also very cold, so I could not use that on the nachos. I highly recommend avoiding this establishment and finding an authentic Mexican restaurant. read more

Received the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. It truly felt like we were a bother for the waitress to attend to our table. She took our order...after waiting 15 minutes and didn't see her again. Someone else brought the check...after we asked for it. The menus were so old and frayed and molded that I was afraid to touch it. I just looked online and ordered that way. The place overall both inside and out was extremely dirty. BUT...During the meal something caught my eye moving near the wall (we were seated outside) and there was a separation on the outside wall of the building and the concrete pad and OMG there were several MICE running around!!!!!!!!!! I had to update my review from 4 years ago... unfortunately. The people here are really nice. That being said, the food isn't as great as it used to be. In fact, unless you love onions on everything, even when you ask them to please not put any in your food, they will still do it. The last 4 times we got carry-out due to Covid, the place was jam packed with people with no spacing of any kind between tables. On all 4 occasions, when getting home to open our packages of food, they missed items. A little frustrating when you are trying to give a local spot some business and they miss the mark. I would rather just drive all the way to the North location which is a 13 minute drive for better service. read more

Wasn't too good, beef on the torta was tough with little flavor, the enchiladas were bland. 2 stars for the salsa which was good.

In town from KC for business and decided we wanted Mexican food & margaritas. The small parking lot was full and cars were parked along the side street all the way down the block so at first we passed and kept looking. Thank goodness we tried a second time as we got seated pretty quickly. They were full and very busy so it did take some time to get our order placed but everything fell into place after that. Nothing fancy here but certainly comfortably casual. Big thumbs up for the large, top shelf skinny margarita. Salsa is awesome and chips are thin and served warm. Had one of the cheese dips with spinach (can't recall the name) to start. It was good but served on a hot cast iron platter and the ingredients were not cohesive, so a little tough to load up on a chip. Large servings for the price. I had the Quesadilla Mexicana and my colleague had a burrito. Both were excellent and very filling. Great guacamole which is a must for me. More authentic dishes, definitely not Tex-Mex. Large menu so plenty of choices. Beer prices are decent. Love that they offer regular and flavored margaritas, along with top shelf and Patron. This place was rated highly, and I was craving a new spot for good authentic Mexican food, so tried it for lunch today. WOW! It was great and very reasonably priced for the size portions you receive. I had the carne asada tacos. They were excellent with lots of tender steak. My friends both had the "Escambre" tacos or similar sounding name. They had pineapple, bacon, steak and onions/peppers in them. Everything was delicious. Margaritas were pretty great too. Will be going back soon! read more

We were at Washburn U to watch our daughter compete in the track meet. Had a couple hour break between events so we decided to try This place. We were disappointed. The chips were really oily, like restroom inducing oily. We ordered the steak fajitas which came out overdone and the flavor was bland at best. We had to ask for sugar twice, hot sauce 3 times and twice were brought out hot salsa which is not what we wanted. The floors look like they haven't been swept all day. New to the area so we decided to find a good little Mexican place and came across this place. It's right on the corner, but from the side it doesn't look like a Mexican restaurant. We got inside, not quite the atmosphere I was expecting, but we got seated pretty fast and the guy came over & got our drink & food order and both came out in a timely manner. The place was pretty chill and laid back this afternoon. Not a whole lot of people there. I ordered the shrimp fajita and my mom got the Burrito Real. Mine was delicious and mom said that her meal was also very good! Both were very good sized portions as well, but then again just about every Mexican place gives you a ton of food. It was towards the end when we were finished eating and then sat there for probably a good 15-20 mins before the guy came to give us his check. He was pretty busy, which is understandable, but it was sad that the woman couldn't help by bringing us a box and our check, considering she looked at us 3-4 different times...all in all the food was really good, but there needs to be more then just 1 server! read more
