Updating this review as they seem to be updating a bit and there are new dishes, it was sooo good! This spinach cheese dip was beyond good, and the quesadilla was excellent! Margarita strong and tasty! Yum!

I have not been to this restaurant in years! My friend and I decided to try this out. When we arrived it wasn't very busy inside-outside in the patio there were more people dining as it was a nice evening out. We chose to sit on the patio, we were taken to a table and given menu's. We received chips and salsa from our server who also at that time took our drink order. I decided on a Michelada and my friend had a Margarita. My drink was huge to my surprise and it was delicious! My friend did not like her margarita very well, I think it had to much mix in it. We placed our meal order with the server. A bus guy came out to clean a table directly across from us and we were caught off guard as he was chucking drinks out into the ground-he did this at another table he was clearing a bit after the first one. Seemed off and had he had a tub to carry dishes and drink ware dumping in the kitchen may have been a better idea. Another server brought out our food, it tasted fresh and hot but we were not checked on throughout our meal. My friend finally asked for a shot of tequila to add to her margarita which made it a little better. We were disappointed that service wasn't great, it really wasn't busy and even after we paid we went inside to get to the parking lot and there were only a few tables inside. My food was mediocre-I prob will not go back which is unfortunate, they do have a nice little patio, nothing fancy but it was decorated cute.

I was visiting Topeka and when I got back to the hotel, I decided to order from this establishment. It is not even 2 miles away from the hotel. However, when it arrived, the food was super cold and it had just gotten picked up. On top of that, the nachos had little to no queso r, and the queso I ordered separately was also very cold, so I could not use that on the nachos. I highly recommend avoiding this establishment and finding an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Lunch with family on patio. Service started off slow with an attitude but got better. Food was very hot, filling and good. Hot chips with good salsa included.

Delicious food and great, fast service!! Good prices too. The eggs were cooked perfectly (as I requested) and there were homemade tortillas with it. The chimichanga beef was very tasty!

In town from KC for business and decided we wanted Mexican food & margaritas. The small parking lot was full and cars were parked along the side street all the way down the block so at first we passed and kept looking. Thank goodness we tried a second time as we got seated pretty quickly. They were full and very busy so it did take some time to get our order placed but everything fell into place after that. Nothing fancy here but certainly comfortably casual. Big thumbs up for the large, top shelf skinny margarita. Salsa is awesome and chips are thin and served warm. Had one of the cheese dips with spinach (can't recall the name) to start. It was good but served on a hot cast iron platter and the ingredients were not cohesive, so a little tough to load up on a chip. Large servings for the price. I had the Quesadilla Mexicana and my colleague had a burrito. Both were excellent and very filling. Great guacamole which is a must for me. More authentic dishes, definitely not Tex-Mex. Large menu so plenty of choices. Beer prices are decent. Love that they offer regular and flavored margaritas, along with top shelf and Patron. I will return if I find myself in Topeka again.

Wasn't too good, beef on the torta was tough with little flavor, the enchiladas were bland. 2 stars for the salsa which was good.

We've dined at The White Linen now at least eight or nine times, including the private chef's table in the old safe (the restaurant is in an old building where a bank once was). The food is always delicious, exciting, thoughtful, and nicely plated. We appreciate the fact there's a fine dining restaurant option in Topeka (it's a lot closer than Kansas City!). But every time we go we are always struck by the service. As good as the food is (and it's very good) the service is always lacking. It feels like the servers (often high school or college age) are play acting at fine dining service. Everything is always just a little off. For example, the silverware: it stays out through the whole meal. Normally, you finish a starter and they take away the used knife and fork and bring new, clean ones. (This could just be easier on the servers but perhaps the restaurant doesn't have enough silverware to do this.) Then, there's usually on every visit one mess up or another. If this happened once on one meal I'd say it was an anomaly, but when there's something every time we dine there you start to question what kind of training goes on with the front of house staff. Here's a list (not an exhaustive one) of things we've experienced: * Entrees for another table being set down in front of us. This by itself is no big deal, but when the problem is pointed out and those entrees are then picked up and set in front of other diners, I wince. * When asking for salt and pepper a small bowl with salt and pepper mixed is provided. I don't know if this is a chef's choice or the server's, but I'd like to dose any salt and pepper myself, thank you. * My wife is allergic to cilantro (not a dislike as in "it tastes like dirt" but an actual EpiPen-carrying allergy) and it was noted both on our reservation on Tock and described verbally to the server when we ordered. A starter arrived with microgreens as a garnish. When my wife asked what the greens were, the server took them back to the chef and another one was sent out because the microgreens had cilantro in them. I worry the server did not communicate the allergy in the first place. * Cleaning equipment left out on a dining table next to ours (see photo). For all the care and attention to the food and the menu, I wish Adam VanDonge paid as much attention to the training of the front of house staff. Certainly, they must be working on the tightest of margins running a fine dining establishment in Topeka. Staff is at an appropriate minimum, but the lack of a Front of House manager shows. When asked what a certain item was on a menu, a server replied, "I don't know. I don't eat this kind of stuff." I wrote such a long review because I have a hunch none of these issues get back to the kitchen. They are kept in the dining room. I think most diners coming to The White Linen are thrilled to have a great night out--and they should. I applaud Mr. VanDonge for the fortitude to keep TWL alive with a vision of great American cuisine. The front of house staff are eager and enthusiastic, don't get me wrong. I just wish the service reflected the quality of the food.

The chicken however was like rubber. I ate half a small piece and put the rest to the side. My husband had the Pulled Pork platter which is normally good. The meat was really dry. I ate all the pasta and told our server about the chicken being like rubber and she stated that she's mentioned that exact thing to the cooks but that maybe if a customer complains they would possibly listen. What made me a little annoyed though was that I ate none of the chicken yet they didn't at least bump off a few bucks off my meal. The service was fine but I feel like over the years this has become my last choice versus my first choice.

When we arrived the restaurant was not very busy at all, there were plenty of open tables by bar and then the next row but we were sat in an area over by the bathrooms. There was one other table that had about 6 people or so, and we were seated in a booth nearby. Our server was friendly and greeted us fairly promptly. We ordered our drinks and dinner And as we sat waiting it was rather annoying that the table party of 6 was talking rather loud the entire time. I realize it happens at restaurants however it was not busy and besides them-the restaurant was quiet, we could hear everything that they were talking about. Our food came out and we tried to enjoy our dinner but the atmosphere was just too much for us. Another large group was sat directly across from us and oddly even with kids they were not loud. It seemed like that little area kept getting sat which I understand sections for the servers. Overall server was attentive and food was delicious, I do recommend their Steak/Lobster Special. I know it's not RL fault for loud people, I know they were enjoying each other's company and prob didn't realize how loud they were being.
