Very neat little place. Service at the counter was great. Tried a few different things. 1) GB enchilada was good but had an odd cinnamon taste-didn't care for that. 2) GB hard taco was really good with tons of flavor. 3) GB burrito was large and very good. 4) chicken tamale was sold-little bland. 5) beef street taco was very good and likely my favorite. Chips and salsa and queso were also good.

Food is always amazing. I always get the #9 Steak burrito no onions. Comes with beans and cilantro inside. It was 97 degrees outside and about 80 degrees inside. Definitely could use some A/C in there. Employees and service friendly and speedy.

The food is absolutely amazing‼ I regret not coming here more often. I had a Barbacoa taco and 2 Tamales. I always get the jalapeno/Tomatillo salsa. Just the best. The staff is always friendly. It's is definitely a small mom-and-pop restaurant.

I am from Topeka and I have never experienced such crunchy goodness I had 2 ground beef tacos with the most delicious cheese sauce that enhanced the flavor. Love the homemade shells and Absolutely loved their Crunchy Crispness. Yum Yum Yum Chips & Cheese sauce also delicious Lost a star because the Cheese sauce could be a little thicker to coat the chips better.

I have been eating at Tacos El Sol since I was a child. In this visit, I ordered the Flautas with rice & beans along with my quest & chips as an appetizer. I loved every bite so much that I made myself full & had to get a to-go box. In terms of condition, my table was clean & ready for me. Floor was clean along with seats. Definitely try this Mexican restaurant!! Food is always hot, authentic, & never misses! The staff is friendly, bilingual, & VERY fast! :) I will always support local businesses especially Tacos El Sol.

I discovered Tacos El Sol while working in downtown Topeka, and I still make a point to go back when I can, because the food is amazing as is the customer service. For those unfamiliar with the area, I would not recommend visiting in the evening due to the seedy location, however, I popping in for tacos over the lunch hour is a must. Get there as close to 11:00 am as you can because the place gets packed and there is very little seating available. Now let's talk about the tacos. These are AUTHENTIC Mexican tacos on and they are amazing. My favorites include the carne asada taco, al pastor taco, and the chicken taco; the chicken taco comes fried, while the rest are simply placed on a corn tortilla with a few additional toppings. Every order is accompanied by an order of chips and salsa which are excellent. Lastly, if you are a fan of guacamole -- you MUST try it from El Sol; it is always fresh and goes great with the chips and the tacos!

Free chips! Tastes homemade but I didn't ask.

This is the most classic Latin cuisine I have found up here. I grew up in Phoenix and just relocated to Lawrence six months ago. So I have a pretty good vantage point for this cuisine. The first thing you need to know: Everything is cheap-- which is exactly as it ought to be. Street food with street food prices. They have a ton of options as well which is another great staple of places like this-- something for everyone. The decor is quirky but that's pretty typical too. The chips were hecking good-- they tasted homemade like the chips at similar joints in Phoenix. Not sure if that's the case. I will say the salsa was essentially fresh tomato sauce. I'm sure that's because of where we are in the country. We added a ton of Choulula and it was fine. The tacos were definitely the stars of the show! I was raving about these for days. I used to hate going to Topeka (because who likes Topeka) but now I'm excited to go back just to have these tacos again!! They are authentic and delicious and made me feel right at home. The tortilla, honestly, was the best part because it was SO GOOD.

This has been my favorite Mexican place for 6 years, they are always good. The horchata is actually real. One of my top 5 in Topeka for sure.

Have eaten here many times in the past. Always liked it. One visit since I have been back tells me it is still a great place to eat.

It helps that it is just a couple blocks away from work, it's easy to get a consensus among co-workers as a place to go for lunch, and it has had good and consistent food that comes out pretty speedy. I know that the menu is filled with diverse items, but I keep gravitating to the same lunch item over and over -- 1 taco, 1 burrito, and refried beans. It's not an exciting lunch, but it's remarkably affordable (~$6!) and it is very filling. El Centenario also plys you with heaping baskets of tortilla chips and salsa. My recommendation -- request the salsa picante. It's a spicy ranchera-style sauce, it has a rather spicy pepper bite, but I've gotten to the point that I will eat chips with it spooned over the top, while one of my coworkers mixes some of the spicy salsa into her bowl of regular salsa. I won't say that El Centenario is the most authentic Mexican restaurant, but it does fit solidly into the current concepts for TexMex / Mexican that is run and staffed by Latin-Americans. Considering some of the other "Mexican" food in Topeka, it's about as authentic as you are going to get without heading over to the taquerias on the east side.

The lady who was working there took my order at first and then went back to the kitchen to prepare it. In the face of the disturbing noise by the two, I decided not to stay and wait for my food. Topeka is blessed with several good mexican food places so I would think this place would be more accommodating. I urge you to try this place only if the many others are closed.

Soooo sweet!! We had 25 people & still had so many leftovers, and it was all packaged perfectly. It came with 2 huge pans of chips, as well as half pans of queso, salsa, cilantro, onions, smoked jalapeños, shredded cheese, lettuce & sour cream.
