Ok, so the food was great. Staff was fun and good service. The big surprise was the size of the portions. One of my friends ordered the breakfast burrito. Believe it or not this burrito was bigger than chipotle. It was huge. She only ate what was almost half and took the other half home for another meal. It was fun place to eat. read more

I love the rolled tacos here at The Taco Shop. It's 3 rolled tacos filled with chicken. I ordered mine w/cheese and sour cream. They do give you plenty of sour cream but I think it ends up cooling the tacos down, by time I got home( I went through the drive-they) to eat them they were a little cold. I still enjoyed them along with the salsa verde. If you go through the drive through expect to wait a little as they make your order when you place it, which is a plus! read more

I was charged $5.95 before tax for 3 rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese but the price on the overhead menu board was $4.35!!! I asked for the menu price but was refused!!! I demanded my money back but got resistance!!! They called someone to get a code for a refund and that person refused to make things right and honor the menu price!!! My friends and I like the Mexican Taco Shop food and used to spend alot of money there but there is a Chipotle opening not too far away. It is sad but we won't be back. So much money spent there. This spot it great at all times of the day. The service is quick, the staff isn't mean or nice, and the food talks for itself. I was told to try the Carne Asada fries and honestly it didn't hit like I hoped, but the traditional dishes are decent. They have a delicious salsa verde which ties it all together nicely. read more

They don't care about their customers and the only thing that drives business is the fact that their food is sort of closer to actual Mexican food than Mexican-American food. Their prices are way too high, they employ people that are wholly incompetent, and while the food tastes good, be prepared to have it underprepared or prepared incorrectly at least 75% of the time. The owner, I've spoken to on multiple occasions, doesn't care if your order is wrong and she's completely unapologetic. I went the day after a wrong order that I ordered late at night, her response was that I should've called immediately rather than coming in-person approximately eight hours later. She refused to replace my incorrect order. I wasted roughly $20 on junk that is not consistent with my palate. After visiting both of their locations about five times total, and only getting my order correct once, I will never go again. Call me insane for continuing to go after all these mistakes, but I've learned my lesson and will never go again. After a dr appointment I was in the area so tacos for lunch was the plan. Lucky for me it was "Taco Tuesday", street tacos are only a buck $1, a deal. I got a few pork and chicken tacos. Fresh, fresh..fresh. They hit the spot, fresh onions and tasty cilantro. I'm not in the area often but I hear it's popular with hospital staff (Topeka's main hospitals are a few blocks away) and the drive-thru is open 24hrs. Mexican Taco Shop is an o.k. place to get Mexican food at all hours of the day. I put Mexican Taco Shop on my radar in Topeka from driving by on day. The name itself is so simple that I had to check it out. While I probably won't ever get any experience in the 24-hour nature of the restaurant, it is interesting to know that I could swing in at any hour. I found the food good and serviceable. This is the second place I have found in Topeka that has a sauce / salsa bar, and I took advantage of that. I ordered fish tacos, and they each had a big chunk of fried fish in them. Not the most delicate of eats, but solid and filling. I also got an order of three "rolled tacos", which I would otherwise have called taquitos. They were filling on their own, but since I am a remorseless eating machine, I had them as a "side". I tried this place out the other day and didn't even know it was around. I ordered some tacos and taco salad and sancho and it was good. They make the food fresh which they let you know on their drive thru window, so there is a wait and it wasn't too long of a wait. They were busy which is a good thing, I have learned that if a restaurant has no cars in the drive thru and it is lunch or dinner time then don't eat there, but this place didn't fail and I will be eating there again. They do post they are open 24 hrs however on the window they close at midnight so if you got a taste for late night munchies with decent prices, it is worth it. read more

We are from California and we're looking for a good taco. We stumbled upon this place and it is authentic as I can get in Southern California. Shredded beef tacos were full of meat and had a nice crispy shell with flavorful meat. I also ordered a bean tostada which was delicious, the beans were nicely flavored and had a crispy shell with a little lettuce and chopped tomato. I would definitely recommend this place. I didn't think it was too pricey as this is what you would pay in California. Way to go Topeka! read more

Service was horrible. We are currently sitting here , now for 30 minutes. The counter person came and ssked for my receipt because they obviously lost our order somehow. We were the only people in here people. Other people have come in after us and I've already left. I went up to the counter and asked what is going on and they did not know. One guy said the chicken fajita burrito it takes a long time sometimes. I said but 30 minutes?. He said yeah sometimes and just gave me a weird smirk. Still no explanation and we're still sitting here. This is ridiculous for a fast food restaurant. Never had this problem before but it will make me rethink coming back here again. So I will say first off that their servings are quite massive. The burrito I had was probably the biggest I've ever seen. It was INCREDIBLY filling. It definitely is a good value for the price. The service was also pretty efficient considering that they also have a lot of drive-through customers. I have been to this place multiple times. The food is always good but when you order queso apparently you have to specify that you want chips!? Really?? Since when? The fact that I had to drive back and ask for the chips is ridiculous and then they can't just give them to me because they don't have the authority? You've got to be kidding me. They are chips! The tortillas from Mexican Taco Shop are plain amazing. So big and tasty that I often eat just one and call it lunch. All of their platters have large portions, enough that we get just one and share it between the two or three of us. Even then, we will sometimes still have leftovers. And the salsa bar is so good that even if we are doing drive-through, I have to run inside and pack up some containers for home. The interior of the taco shop isn't that great. Clean, but not well lit and populated with tables and chairs from a 1980s Burger King. Otherwise, our family rates this the best Mexican food in Topeka. A little more expensive? Yep. Worth it? I was doing a ride along with a Topeka police officer and we decided to grab food around 2am at the taco shop. The officer said this was a great spot, good portion sizes for the cost. We put in our order and waited for about 10 minutes before the officer asked about our order. I guess their service is normally quick. The cashier looked and realized she forgot to add our order. She apologized and our food was out within 5 minutes. I ordered the 3 rolled tacos with chicken, they were excellent. I also ate some chips and cheese sauce the officer ordered...it was amazing! Look, the place has pretty good food. I will never complain about the food. But never go there if you only have a 30 minute lunch break. What I'm having an issue understanding is how you can spend $7-$8 on a burrito, and yet have to wait an average of 30-45 minutes at the drive thru with maybe 1-2 cars in front of you. Then, you're lucky to get hot sauce at all.. or only like 1 thing of it even if you ask for it. Great food when you finally get it, but just the service alone to me is not worth $8 per burrito when I can go to other places and spend half the money and also not spend 30 minutes to an hour in line at the drive thru. Something's gotta give, either lower the price to make it consumer friendly and worth the wait, or hire more workers to speed up the drive thru process because it's honestly terrible. read more

Employees were not very friendly and it took forever to get our food. We had ordered very little to eat and a couple drinks and waited at least 20-30 minutes at a FAST FOOD place. I can understand if it were a sit down restaurant but this was just ridiculous. Upon driving up to the drive thru the trash was so smelly that it almost gagged me. It was overflowing and odorous, 10/10 so do not recommend. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They forgot one of our two queso's after we waited for forever. The burrito we got was as dry as the Sahara desert and was as tasteful as a raw Lima bean. We called to figure out why we only received one queso and they argued and mentioned they checked which clearly they did NOT and then hung up on us. I have to start off with saying the food was great. I had the Fiesta Enchiladas (Ground Beef). My problem is the price. $7.91 for two ground beef Enchiladas, a little lettuce, and some tomatoes. No beans, rice, or chips. The Enchiladas are average in size, nothing huge that could warrant that price. The reason I gave 3 starts instead of 4 was that my Enchiladas tasted like they came from two batches. One of them had a chewy tortilla and the other was much softer. While the food here is arguably more authentic than other Mexican places in town, the prices are not. With platters starting at $12.50, I expected to be wowed. I tried the enchiladas and found them to be pretty boring. Also tried the Chimi which was better, but again pretty overpriced. Did enjoy the sauce bar. Good variety and flavor. I love this place. The food is delicious and very flavorful. I Love that they have green chili. Not many places around Topeka have this. That said, my favorite burrito is the Chili Verde burrito. It's difficult to not get it every time! Their guacamole is good as well and they have a large range of sauces. I would also recommend the breakfast burritos. However, if you are looking for something quick to keep you going on the way to work, you may want to reconsider. These breakfast burritos will put you right to sleep! Hey are enormous!! Even then, most everything was still only an extra $1-$1.50 more expensive in general. Except the super nachos. Those were $12.50??? Taste was still pretty good and the salsa bar was legit. Zero customer service!! Won't honor their mistakes when they mess up your order. It's a Panchos franchise though they can't call it so because of naming/franchise rights.
