It was Thanksgiving Day, and after hours of driving through Kansas on our way back to Phoenix, my husband and I discovered something very important: Absolutely *everything* was closed. Well... almost everything. =) This little restaurant was one of the only places we could find open, and by the time we arrived, it was obvious the manager and his small crew were already preparing themselves for the tidal wave of hungry travelers that was about to descend upon them. And honestly, I have to give them tremendous credit. While most people were home gathered around tables with family, turkey, and pumpkin pie, this small group of hardworking people had chosen to spend their Thanksgiving feeding complete strangers passing through town. One of the staff members helping was the manager's daughter, and despite the growing crowd and nonstop activity, everyone maintained such genuinely positive attitudes that the entire place felt unexpectedly uplifting. The manager himself took time to speak with us and shared how grateful he was for the kindness and generosity shown by the owners of the establishment. There was something deeply sincere and humble about the conversation that stayed with me long after we left. It reminded me that there are still genuinely good-hearted people out there quietly doing the right thing without fanfare. As for the food, we kept things simple -- burgers, fries, and onion rings. Nothing particularly fancy, but perfectly passable for a Thanksgiving travel lunch. But honestly, the food was not what made this stop memorable. It was the spirit of the place. Kansas is often considered part of the American heartland, and sitting there on Thanksgiving Day watching exhausted travelers, hardworking employees, and grateful customers all crossing paths together somehow felt like a small glimpse into the kindness and resilience that still exists quietly across the country. Clean facility, including the restrooms. Comfortable seating area. Sammy the manager came out to the eating area to make sure everyone in the dining room was enjoying their meal. Traveling through Kansas on way home to Colorado. Few decent food choices for quick bites along the sparsely populated western part of state. Spangles had good reviews so we stopped in Salina. We were not at all disappointed! I had a garlic Parmesan bacon cheeseburger on sourdough, which was absolutely scrumptious, fresh, and piping hot. My hubby enjoyed his double cheeseburger and loved the pickles. We shared an order of delicious crispy-on-the-outside fries, nicely seasoned too. I rounded out the caloric intake with a small Reese's tornado shake. It may have been the best shake I ever had. Our dog scored a free pup cup adorned with 3 biscuits. This was a welcome treat in the middle of 111-degrees Kansas. Wish we had a Spangles here. So much better than the national chains. read more

We were in Salina visiting friends and couldn't wait to have lunch at Spangles. We heard wonderful things about the restaurant. I walked in to place a "to go" order because we were driving a larger vehicle that was too tall for their drive thru. The young woman at the register was extremely rude! When I told her the order was "to go" she replied with an attitude, "That's different." (Emphasis on "that's") Not sure why she thought that kind of comment was necessary. She asked which desserts I wanted, but I wasn't familiar with their dessert menu. She didn't say anything and abruptly pointed to the dessert menu on the wall. People in Kansas are generally friendly and kind, but the customer service from this young woman was horrible. Not friendly or kind. If the order was just for me, I would have walked out. Maybe that was her way of telling people from out of the area, "You're not welcome here." On a positive note, the gentleman at the counter, handing out orders, was very friendly and kind. What a pleasant surprise! We were traveling across a few states and happened to see this place. When we walked in, we were greeted by the manager, who was an amazing person! He was friendly,happy,loved to talk and made you feel welcome. He told us about the menu, and then pointed us into the direction of the specials. I had the steak burger, fries, a drink, and a snicker ice cream dessert, my husband got the cheeseburger, fries, a drink, and the Oreo cookie ice cream dessert. And my dog got a puppy patty. We got our order to go, but the place was decorated very cute. Lots of pictures and Elvis statue. Nice music playing everybody in there was happy and friendly. Our food came out hot and fresh. And when my husband went to pick up the order, the manager put a little ice cream with dog bones in it for my dog and let us taste a few of the delicious, hot cinnamon sugar donuts! Easily one of the top fast few places in town if not anywhere. Staff are always super friendly,service is always fast, and food is always fresh and delicious. Much more bang for your buck here compared to other fast food places. Best fries in the game, and that Garlic Parmesan burger on sourdough bun is incredible! Doesn't taste like it comes from a fast food restaurant. 1/2 priced burgers on Monday evenings and their variety of combos and menu choices is next level. Also offer great desserts, breakfast, and even alcoholic beverages. The only thing keeping them from getting five stars is the bathrooms need a makeover. Time to put in some multi stall bathrooms and get rid of the nasty one stall ones they have had forever. And they are almost always needing trash dumped and floor mopped and many times the tables in the dining area need washed off. Need to hire someone who simply does those two duties all day and this place would be dynamite! Would also help if they increased the size of parking lot or moved the drive thru to the west side to help with traffic flow and allowing people leaving to not be blocked in by cars in the drive thru. Food was good! Best fries ever! Love the classic fifty's style!! However.. Shay, the guy at the cash register was very rude to us, other customers and his coworkers. He'd get irritated with us and told us to wait. He sighs very loudly and announces he has to go back and change something on our order. He judged us for what we ordered. Once we sat down he loudly talked about his toenail issues to coworkers and customers "did I ever tell you about my toenail getting ripped off?". He'd walk around multiple times asking every customer if they are enjoying their food then loudly judge them for adding any condiments. Amazing lunch! We went through the drive through and ate in the car because we had the dogs with us. I had my burger protein style (no bun) . They put the burger on a bed of shredded lettuce, delicious! My favorite part of the meal was the dessert, a Strawberry Mudslide. The best fries available anywhere. You can ask for flavorings on the fries, or just try plain. The Western Burger is classic Spangles with barbecue sauce, onion rings, bacon, cheese, pickles and a large burger. The Gourmet Supreme is another Spangles classic with a large burger, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. You can even get to go mixed drinks through the drive through. The tater tots from his combo are so crisp and delicious. The place has a fifty theme but I didn't take pics in the diner since a lot of people were sitting eating. We ordered burger meals (surprise, surprise). It was fantastic, the meal was ready very quickly, it was hot and tasted amazing! The pickles are a little weird but it didn't detract from the overall flavor. They also have flavor add-one for the fries, I got the garlic parmesan, the hubs got the salt and vinegar, both very good. The restaurant itself was clean and very cute. There is a drive-up if you're in a hurry but inside you order at a counter and they call your name when it's ready. The shakes were also great. They have a great variety of food. read more

Beautiful decor... what a nice throw back to the 1950's! The shakes are okay, sandwiches okay, and the fries are really good. If you order the fries don't add seasoning. They are better plain. We tried the grilled cheese... too much cheese and no flavor/seasoning... but lots of potential if they cater to older people. We didn't eat meat/hamburgers but I asked a couple of ladies sitting nearby if they were good. They replied that the atmosphere was more important to them than the flavor. Now a 3 seems low... BUT if I were solely judging customer service I'd give them a five! The people were so friendly and positive... I think I'd go back just to be around these people! read more

This was my first visit to a Spangles and I'm not sure I would stop at one again. The hamburgers were pre-cooked and then reheated on a grill. We watched the cook take our hamburger off a big tray of pre-cooked hamburgers sitting by the grill and watched as he reheated it on the grill. The fries were good however they were going to give us the fries that we already sitting in the dump area where they season them with salt. I had asked for no seasoning. The guy told me they didn't have any seasoning only salt. Since when is salt not a seasoning? I will say the strawberry shake was very good. read more
