This place is not what it use to be. Found a black hair in my salad. When I told the waitress, she said "it looks like arm hair from the cook" ummm...that's disgusting!!! I came here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 PM. The place was about 90% full. Families, couples, singles, all types of groups. I was seated quickly at a table by the window. My waiter, who I would like to give a shout out to you, but I forgot his name was excellent. Attentive, very polite. They had an entrée special and appetizer special. I ordered both specials. They always bring fresh bread with roasted garlic cloves on top. The garlic is soft and spreadable on the bread. It is very yummy. I started my meal with a glass of wine and an appetizer of Barata cheese that came with a tomato sauce and pesto. It was good. Not as gooey as as some I've had but quite excellent. Then there was a salad that came with the meal. It was very simple, just greens and tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing. A nice light interlude between my appetizer and the wonderful lamb shank that came next. The lamb shank was large and covered with excellent tomato sauce. The tomato sauce texture is not entirely smooth, but not chunky. I'm not describing this in a negative way, it's really really good. The lamb shank was so tender. I didn't need a knife. It was served with risotto, which had just the tiniest chew to it. It was perfectly cooked. I was too full to order dessert, but I heard people getting the tiramisu. As it was, I went home with a large amount of food for tomorrow.! I've seen some people say that the decor is tired. I don't agree. Yes, there was a chair at my table that the vinyl had a little crack in it. It was not a hole and it certainly wasn't something that I would avoid sitting on. It is the same as it's been for all the years I've been coming here. When I cross the border to go to Windsor for an event or just for shopping, this is the Italian restaurant I come to. It is consistently good. Let's talk a little bit about price. The appetizer was $22, my glass of wine was $10 and the lamb shank was $44. You have to remember, if you're from the US, that there is an 18% tax that is added to your meal. I wish I lived closer! This place was GREAT!!! It was about 5 min drive from the tunnel if coming from Detroit. Large portions, lively atmosphere, great food!! Went for lunch on a Saturday, thought it would be slow--- we were wrong, it was packed. Recommend calling ahead if you have more than 4 people. There were couples, small and big groups. We left with a ton of carry-out because we under estimated the portion sizes. We ordered the Lamb Shank on Risotto, Chicken-Parm on Penna, Spaghetti and meatballs, and some Fettuccine Alfredo... and the Arancini app (Eddie, our waiter, changed it from a large one to 8 small ones so everyone got 2 crunchy delicious ones). We came here on a Wednesday over the holidays and it was packed. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated within 15 minutes. Had a starter of grilled calamari. We had entrees of lasagna, veal in while wine and beef. Each came with a side of salad, and mine came with noodles. That was to complement the veal and white wine sauce. Exceptional quality food. The sauces are appropriate and the pasta doesn't drown in them and allows for the other ingredients to shine. The kitchen is open so they are proudly showing off how they make each meal. There's also a secret kids menu with a less-Neapolitan pizza so it is quite family friendly. In fact, this is easily the best meal we've had with the kids ever. Reservations are definitely recommended. We had a brief wait even with a reservation but I don't think there would have even been an option to walk in. The place was at capacity the entire time we were there. read more

Whenever I'm in Windsor Ontario for work, everyone wants to eats at Spago. I finally went there and I wasn't disappointed. It definitely has an older, Italian family vibe when you enter. There's 3 locations in Windsor, and people say this is the best one. The portions are pretty generous. There was complimentary foccasia bread with actual cloves of garlic to start. We spent a rainy day in Windsor and were hoping for a cozy spot for a good meal. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and we had no reservation. Nevertheless, we were seated and had a fantastic meal. We sampled the lasagna, Brasato, and veal scallopini. Of the three, veal carried the day! Ordered with garlic and oil on the pasta, it was the perfect Italian dish for a rainy day. The other two dishes were great but the veal really emerged as best. Because I was staying at the casino and got in so late. This was the closest restaurant to my room. I went wearing running pants, tennis shoes and a t-shirt. I was completely underdressed but they still accepted me into the restaurant. I sat at the bar and ordered take out. As I waited I had two drinks. I sat next to a trash can and the dirty dishes so the smell was not amazing but the staff was polite and would check in on me. The food took 20 minutes. They had the hockey game on one TV and a show with subtitles on the other. Food was packaged with silverware and napkins. I felt I was given a lot of food for the price. This was my first visit to Spago. The main floor is adorable, love the decor. The upstairs is much "fancier" and has more of a formal feeling. We started with the arancini which were the best I've had that were not in Italy itself. They were so flavorful. They had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside & the inside was sooo gooey with cheese.10/10 The house salad that comes with the meals are very yummy. Fresh and covered with the perfect amount of dressing. 10/10 I got the lasagna for my main course. I think it needed more sauce, as it was a bit dry. The noodles layers were too thin which caused them all to stick together. 6/10 My bf got the chicken parm and he loved it! He gave it 9/10 Overall, the service was great. I will be back! read more

6 of us popped in for a late dinner (7pm). Considering it was a Monday night and we walked past several vacant restaurants, this place was hopping. I've been to the other Spago location (Dougall/Cabana) and it was excellent, so hopes were high for this place. Let's start with the good: *service was excellent. Our male waitstaff was attentive, humorous and we never felt rushed. * the staff work seamlessly together. Empty plates cleared quickly..Staff were always available for any request * food was, for the most part, excellent. * despite being busy, noise levels did not reflect the size of the crowd *seating was no where as tight as their other location * bread with roasted cloves of garlic was stellar. The mediocre (and only reason for 4 stars): * while everyone else enjoyed their meals (plus huge portion sizes), I was underwhelmed. I ordered the Pesto Pollo (which I had ordered at the other location) and loved it. Rich flavour with a strong basil undertone. What I got here was so watered down that there was nary a flavour of pesto...don't know if it was the pesto being too watery or whether there was too much water from the pasta, but it killed the pesto flavour. If it was my first time ordering it, I wouldn't have it again. Disappointing. Friends had the Manicotti, Chicken Parmesean, Osso Bucco and all loved their dishes. All in all, it was a nice spot. This was our first visit to Spago. My first impression was that it could use a bit of an update. It feels very 80s/90s family Italian restaurant. The lighting is a bit too bright, not a cozy romantic feel. The music was not so great either. It wasn't the Frank Sinatra kind of soundtrack, I guess it was an Italian singer but music I didn't recognize or like much. It was a bit distracting. I was in Windsor for the weekend with my family and Yelped "best restaurants in Windsor" and Spago came up so coming here for dinner on Saturday night was a no brainer. We happened upon a "via Italia" festival or initiative that the city of Windsor sponsored which basically closed down a few streets in their little Italy area to encourage pedestrian foot traffic and restaurants to set up patios on the street. Like an "eat local" initiative to help restaurants with business ever since the pandemic crippled many. On this strip is where Spago was with bright red umbrellas that lined the corner and enchanting fairy lights hung around their patio. It was busy - both inside and outside. We didn't have a reservation so we did walk in and for a group of 5 at 7:00pm, and reasonably, we were told it was a 30 min wait time and that the patio was fully booked and we could only get a seat inside. Once we got seated at our table at 7:30 inside, we noticed it was bustling and all the tables were spaced out safely 2m apart. All the staff wore masks but they didn't have QR menus. They came to take our drinks orders immediately and our food orders as well. We ordered 1) calamari appetizer - fried (there was an option to get it grilled) 2) two Branzino specials with a choice of side btwn veg or pasta and we chose vegetables. 3) veal parmigiana with a side of pasta instead of veg, and lastly) 4) the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken instead of shrimp. The mains also came with a side of salad. They also gave us complimentary bread drizzled with olive oil. The bread tasted very fresh. Salads came out quickly but our food took about 45mins to an hour to come out! I don't know if it's small town timing versus big city quick quick standards but we were a little put off with the wait time. Now the food, the calamari was great. It came with this great marinara hot sauce that was also tangy. The Branzino was cooked with lemon and was so soft and moist with crispy skin paired with the asparagus side. The cook on the fish was perfect but the flavour was lacking. It was a little bland. The veal parmigiana was ok good but nothing special. Very comparable to the veal parm from Agincourt bakery. Lastly, the fettuccine Alfredo was also bland, lacking in flavour, and the chicken was rubber! So dry and way over cooked. Overall, I would just give this a middle of the road 3/5 stars as the quality, price, and taste of the food didn't justify the wait time. I can confidentially say I've had better Italian food and pasta at Scaddabush. read more

I'm gonna be honest! I'm from California, Spago Trattoria E Pizzeria is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in North America outside of Italy ! Beautiful atmosphere with the first snow falling outside. The food was so excellent we wanted to dance in a circle with the waitress! Lol ! We had for appetizers their Meatballs and pasta sauce. It was excellent! We had their Calamari, it was insanely delicious! Melt in your mouth like butter. Yet the crispy Calamari outside was just delightful! My family had Lamb Shank and Risotto that was fire ! The seafood stew was excellent. My wife had lasagna that was epic! The beet salad and dressing will make is return again. I had flank steak over pasta. The steak cut was a bit tuff and unseasoned, but their pasta made up for it. By the way, they make their pasta from scratch/ homemade!!! Their fresh baked garlic bread life changing! I'm definitely coming back! Spago Trattoria was one of those hidden diamond restaurants! Wonderfully awesome!!! So, I went with family yesterday table for 6. Got seated immediately...it was pretty empty when we were seated but filled pretty quickly. Saw several others get seated wayyyy after us HOWEVER received their food & to go containers before we even got our food! Hmmmm...mind you we were the only people of color in there. A solid Italian spot for sure! Some of our favorites from the night were: pollo especial, spaghetti and meatballs, the spinach and cheese manicotti and chicken Marsala! So my order, the spaghetti and meatballs, was the tables favorite! I was actually kind of nervous ordering that since it's the most basic thing on the menu and I never order anything that simple. My dad was raving about it so I had to see what the hype was about and I I'm actually glad I did! The meatballs were large and generous, I got four large meatballs! You can tell they've been simmering away for hours just based on their texture and flavor. It was delicious!! I just wish the pasta was freshly made in house but it wasn't. Overall flavor and portion was great though. The bread they brought out to the table as welll as the Mixed Green Salad that came with our meals were great too! This place is phenomenal. Service is spectacular and food is impeccable. We have gone twice, and the second time we had reservations. We ended up being seated 25 minutes after our reservation, BUT the hostess (who may have been owner as well?) checked in/communicated with us every 5-10 minutes to keep us up to speed with our table (hey, restaurants can't kick people out, so reservations aren't always perfect!). Not only that, but she gave us a free appetizer AND a free dessert to compensate for our wait. It was completely unnecessary, as we understood that these things happen, but it made us feel taken care of. Both times we've had dinner here, our wait staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and polite. I'm a single dad with 2yr and 6yr old, we went and there was a 45min wait. The manager saw us waiting with the little ones and seated us after only 5 min! The food was amazing, even my six-year-old son said we have to write a review on this place. I had the butterfly golf shrimp with pasta in a white wine sauce, the kids had pizza and spaghetti and meatballs. I love the inside ambience makes you feel like you're eating outside of the restaurant in Italy with all of the canopies over the inside windows.
