I really don't even need to write this review. You already know that your neighborhood independent…read moredowntown hardware store is just damn awesome. Just awesome. You need something? They have it. You could go to a national chain store where the lackeys, er, uh, employees don't have a clue. You might find what you're looking for. You won't pay any less. Or, you could go to Robnetts, and if you don't immediately see what you need, one of the staff will take you right to it. Have an odd fastener? They have it in stock. They can even tell you exactly what it is before you go looking. My only dig was one time I needed a bolt for some furniture. They had one that fit, but it was a bolt with a hex head that takes a standard wrench rather than flush top that uses an allen wrench. Guess what? My chair still works! Not too long ago I needed an odd light bulb. I wanted to get an LED version. They had exactly what I needed, and I paid less than what I would have paid had I ordered online. Another time I was looking for some oddball light bulbs for a friend. They had the EXACT match, both in halogen and LED. I got the LED. Sweet. Just recently, I needed an odd sized allen wrench. I have so many of them, and I have a few sets. I didn't need a whole set, just one wrench. Eighty-nine cents and two minutes later it was in my pocket and I was on my way with a smile. Thank you Robnett's.

Always buy local. Been in business since the pyramids. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff…read more Highly recommended. Plus they've got nice old wooden floors that squeak with every foot fall. Love it.

I called prior because this is uncommon and wasn't sure if they would be interested in that business. The young man that I had spoke to on the phone was HAPPY to help, gave me quote, and told me to come on in. I went to the store and stood at the counter waiting to be acknowledged and checked out for about 15 minutes. I was extremely patient and watched people enter the store AFTER me, and they were greeted friendly. I looked around to see if I just blended in to the background, but no, they looked at me and then the other gentleman and told him he was next. I said something about it, and the older gal told me she didn't see me, mind you I was standing 4 feet in front of her for 15 minutes. The woman was visibly upset that I bothered to stay something about not being acknowledged, so I asked for the young man I spoke to on the phone with a quick description of what I was looking for. She laughed and said that they won't do that for me. I explained I had called ahead and got the ok, but she then described that the young man that answered the phone was challenged and shouldn't be answering phone calls. That he NEVER answers the phone. (keep in mind I have spoken with the kid on the phone on more than one occasion, and has been the ONLY person to answer the phone when I call.) She placed blame and shame to this hard working young man and was extremely rude. I asked to speak with the young man to let him know he was appreciated either way, but instead some older guy came out and was even ruder than the woman. I asked him a couple of questions, and my mid sentence he just walked away! I said, "Excuse me sir", his response, "SCOFF, you can figure it out." After describing this encounter to another local business in Browsnville, we were warned that Carlson's Hardware had continually rang them up for more money than the marked price of the purchase. They reviewed their receipts after years of support and found that this was a common mishap. City Council was contacted. We just went in today for supplies and thought we'd verify that they weren't over charging and it turns out they DID IT AGAIN! They attempted to deny the "mistake", and we had to physically show them the numbers don't add up like that. After arguing us to be wrong they finally said, oh you know what, you're right. Funny how it never happens to be less, and is ALWAYS more.

One star, is one too many…read more Make sure you check your prices before paying!! All totals are added up on a calculator by the staff, and funny that it never ends up being LESS than the total, but always MORE. Just about everyone in Brownsville has had an experience of being over charged here. I have had to point out that the totals were incorrect nearly EVERY time i come in. I've had countless horrible experiences here, and always attempted to put my best foot forward to find resolution. Always met with sassy remarks and attitude. When I'm overcharged, or you mixed my paint wrong for the THIRD TIME IN ONE DAY, I still come in with respect as that's how I treat my customers. As a small business owner, i can say first hand that if a mistake is made, you need to handle it with an apology and respect. Not by acting like a 5 year old. I made a deal with the owner of this store to purchase rolls of stretch wrap for my business, we agreed on a price, and said he was happy to sell them to me. We continued this deal for weeks, until one of the gals who worked there abruptly said she would like to charge me more. She said she was aware of the deal I had made with the owner but FELT as though it wasn't enough. I told her until I heard from the owner that deal had changed, I expected to hold to the agreed upon amount, as that is FAIR BUSINESS. She laughed at me, and started name calling as if in the hallways of a high school. Learn to treat your customers with respect. The "I'm better than you" attitude will get you nowhere. Stop overcharging you customers who have worked hard to spend their money at your establishment. This business is a serious joke. They are a franchise of Ace hardware, who I have spoken to and they are appaled at the reviews online and my experiences. I sure hope some change occurs.
