Very nice and unexpected! The clubhouse offers a lot of amenities. I've only been in it a few times but it seems to be well-kept and very clean. I attended a party in the lower level media room and it was perfect! So nice to have that available. I would definitely recommend checking out the apartment complex if you're looking. Wonderful safe neighborhood and quiet residents. Overall, I am very happy here!

The Lurican apartment building, owned and managed by McCaughey Properties, is an amazing find in…read morethe heart of downtown Madison. The building was constructed in 2008 and I've lived here since it opened. Prior to moving here, I changed apartments every year because of poor management. I would highly recommend renting at the Lurican, it's a pricier place but it's also right in the middle of downtown, just a block away from the grocery store. You're right next to Mifflin, Overture Center, State Street, and in a great spot to catch the bus and to access the university campus. Pat is one of the best building managers I've ever had and the apartments have really nice amenities. Maintenance: Issues are handled within 24 hours, usually less, unless a part is needed but in that case the part is ordered in less than 24 hours. Management: Pat is a fantastic building manager. I see him on-site all the time taking care of things and making sure the property is maintained. Amenities: The apartments have central AC and heating. Trash is put in a trash room on the first floor that can be kind of smelly at times but they try to air it out to keep it from getting too bad. The stove is a flat top stove making it easier to clean, there's an in-unit stacked washer/dryer, and dishwasher. Fridge is the top door/bottom door type and there is an icemaker in the freezer. Sound insulation is pretty good, keeping most of the noise outside of the apartment at a minimum, although loud things like construction across the street or very loud neighbors can sometimes leak through. Lighting in the bathroom and kitchen is very good, floor lamps may be needed in the living room area. Plenty of counter space in the kitchen. Overall the building is well maintained, especially in the winter when the guy who shovels the snow is always on top of things and often the property is the first one shoveled during storms. The underground parking is a little bit tight but also well maintained. The building is a smaller one so no apartments are super far from the elevator. It can be tough for friends to visit because of the parking situation downtown, but the Overture Center ramp is only a block away. I love living at the Lurican and the only reason we're moving out is because we're going to a different city.

They value the time and money of potential residents much higher than that of current residents no matter how long you've lived there. I was walked in on while asleep and half clothed by maintenance men not once but TWICE without them knocking. This is about as close as you can get to being in an HOA without ever having signed up to be in one. They are strict and often passive aggressive including but not limited to threatening to drain the pools if residents can not "cooperate" with their rules. Children are not allowed in pool areas even with adults. I also frequently had to keep my thermostat around 75 degrees to keep my apartment above a hoodie temp. due to poor insulation. Beware.

I didn't leave the place in perfect shape but as someone with family in construction and renovation I guarantee you it was NOT worth that much. What the hell is the point of a deposit at that point? Sure it has a lot of nice reviews but interesting that they're all from 8 years ago, around the time the place was nearly done being built. Likely a promotion ran where they gave some perk to people leaving nice reviews. They're nice at first but the moment you're in there it literally feels like you cannot LIVE there. You have passive aggressive management sending rude letters and emails- to the point now where any notice from a landlord sends my anxiety up the roof, even to this day when I live in a HOUSE now. Management, don't even bother responding to this because I'm not reading your responses. I don't trust you enough to give you my real name, because knowing you, you'd be awful. At this point, I don't trust you to actually be genuine in anything you say. Everything is a nice platitude to get the next lease in your roster so you can rip someone else off.

With the lease amount, the courtyards and all of that is fantastic, but imagine being a new student, not being able to wash your clothes unless it's 11 pm or later during the week?? There should be at least 6 (SIX) or MORE laundry sets (washer/dryers) on EVERY floor (they have the room if you look online and consider stackable units), plus the ability to reserve machines (with a time limit if you do not start/check in at reserved time), nor do they even post data of peak times so students can plan (it's a link at their site, no data, the folding table in between the machines is usually open though??) Why should any new student need to start doing their laundry at 11pm because that's the first time they're able to???? There is more than enough room in the gorgeous apartments for stackable units, even the small load type, which would be perfect.
