I moved into Lucky for its convenient location-close to State Street, East Campus Mall, and has a grocery store right below it. But ever since I have moved in, it has been a nightmare to live in. When I first tried to move in, the staff was extremely rude and wouldn't help me get my keys until several days after I needed them. Once I finally moved in, I realized their kitchens DO NOT HAVE AN OVEN. They say that their microwaves can act as ovens but that's not true at all. I tried it and they cook terribly. My roommate and I now try to cook things in a toaster oven if it can't be cooked on the stove. Also the stove is electric and smokes every time we turn it on so we have to keep the vent fan on and the windows open whenever we cook so that the smoke detector does not go off. In addition, the staff only seems to vacuum the hallways around midnight so if you're trying to sleep, you won't be for long.
Then, I discovered a spot on the ceiling where there was black mold so I had maintenance come and look at it. They decided that although I move out in less than a month and they could fix it then, they were going to turn my bedroom into a construction zone for several days, hammering and creating a racket-even though it could have been done in one day if they had come earlier in the day like they said they would. They then left tarps and construction lamps in my bedroom overnight, restricting access to my bed so I had to climb over all of my belongings that I was forced to move out of the way for their lamps and construction equipment.
One day I woke up at 7AM to the sound of hammering on the other side of the wall, where another apartment would be, right next to my head. I called the front desk and they said they would take care of it although the hammering continued for another 4 hours.
In addition, there are two doormen. There is one who is a larger man who is super nice and wonderful and wishes a good day everyday to anyone who passes him. The other, smaller man is really creepy and leers at the women that pass if he is ever even at the door. Often times he won't even be at the door- he'll just be sitting in the lobby, doing nothing.
I moved out of the dorms in May and am subleasing an apartment for the summer here until I move into a different apartment in the building in August. I found out today that they are turning the area that my August apartment overlooks into a construction zone for several months once I move in. Both apartments are WAY too much money for what you get. I am paying less to live on the ninth floor, which has more and nicer amenities, for the summer than I will be in August to live on the fifth floor, which does not make any sense. Either way, living in this building is completely not worth the exorbitant price.
Between the staff, constant construction, and all of the problems with this building, I would not recommend anyone live here. The only bonus is being close to the grocery store and State Street but there are many other places to live with the same features that you could get without all of the problems. I've only been living here for two months and cannot wait to move out even though I still have more than a year left of living here. Again I would not recommend anyone live here. read more
