Went here today because a group of us were talking about the best places to go in San Diego for Acia Bowls. Two people mentioned this place so I knew I had to try it. Worst Acia bowl I have ever had in flavors and portion. Will never go there again, saw so many health violations. Staff was nice enough, but the gal who rings the register and takes money also cuts up your fruit without gloves. Even worse, she cuts them on the dish drain portion of a small stainless steel sink, that I saw other things placed on. So gross! Then after blending the Acia instead of using a spoon to get it out of the blender (which would have been so simple) instead she kept banging the side, and after only half would drop into the bowl, then proceeded to add tap water to the second half swishing it around to get it to pour in the bowl. Fortunately I got it to go, but I opened it in my car to look at it and it was all watery. Drove 4 minutes to my client's home, and removed the fruit to rinse them (who knows what cross contamination was on that sink). The flavor of the acia wasn't just watered down by the tap water, but even the center part that made it in the bowl before the water tasted like mostly blended ice, very little acia flavor. The fruit consisted of four slices of banana (half small banana), two small strawberries sliced up. There was very little granola, and I had to pay a dollar extra for a tiny sprinkle of coconut flakes and slivered almonds that may have equaled two whole almonds if put together. Standard price without the extras is $6.95. Then .50 cents extra for each additional item that in my opinion should be standard in an acia bowl. Topping additions include coconut, almond slivers, blueberries, and bee pollen. Bowl is small and will not fill you up, especially if you have to pour out half the watered down smoothie as I did. I noticed in someone's picture on here that they received a healthy portion of coconut, so it may just be the gal that made mine thought it only needed a dusting of coconut and almonds even though I paid extra. Wish I had taken a photo for you. Two best places I have found are Swami's in La Mesa, and Pure Press in San Carlos/Del Cero across Cowels Mtn. read more

I have been going to this coffee shop for months and I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to have found them. They offer so much, if you check out their calendar of events on their website you can plan out your visit. For example the other I had my computer updated with new virus protection, ate an acai bowl (to die for) and watched some TV while I relaxed... all in one visit. It's unfortunate but I have had such bad luck finding a trustworthy person to work on my computers, it's like going to a mechanic if you don't know about it there is always someone who will take advantage of you. Bloody terrible. They have one person operating both the counter, drinks, and cooking! The average time I wait for a coffee is at least 15 minutes and they usually mess up a simple order like giving you a frap rather than a latte. It is overpriced, Starbucks would be cheaper and taste better! None of my friends go here anymore as they have found some nasty stuff in their food like hairs. The worst thing about the place is if you do order something, prepare to be late to wherever you're heading. It is very small, and if you plan on using their wifi or cps you will have to empty your pockets because it is also expensive. You can try to be friendly but the staff is not. It is not worth going here even if all the other cafes were closed! I am giving a poor rating from trying out this place many times so I didn't just have a bad time once. read more

Pitaya bowls, I'll always be back for the pitaya bowls, the quality, consistency, and size of them is exceptional. Haven't found a comparable one yet. The guy that owns it (or at least im assuming he owns it) is always cordial, he informs us of specials and events, he is very pleasant. My biggest issue with this place is the staff (when its not the owner), they aren't only lack luster they're customer service is shotty, you can't ask a simple question without getting a snarky answer or an annoyed look covered with a fake smile. I really appreciate what the guy is doing though, its a legit little coffee shop and their menu goes beyond a typical little spot like this, its neat. read more

Don't know what the previous review means. SpaceBar is great! the place is very Seattle feeling not the Seattle phoney Starbucks --and yes I am from Seattle and lived there 20 years. Spacebar has organic coffees and teas the best Chai not the sweet syrup or the canned powder other coffee shops sell but tea! You can sweeten it to your taste and they have a decaf Chai. They serve meals that are real not outrageous health food or gigantic cholesterol meals that could serve 4 people. Spacebar has differenting types of live music, jazz, fiddlers, african rhythm groups --playing on Sunday. Sunday evenings they play free movies on a big white wall. There is a chess group that comes and plays and folks that play cards and board games. There are 5 computers you can rent cheap (both Mac & PC) There are outdoor seating, both smoking and Non-smoking areas AND both areas have outlets so you can plug in your laptop. I have given this local coffee shop a few chances to redeem itself, but it has fell short consistently. I have been here on an average day after the gym, during a weekend comedy show, and for a random wine tasting I saw on line. I am going to just start from the moment you walk into the door. It immediately gives you the sense that the people who own this place had a million ideas and tossed them all over this shop with no rhyme or reason. There are random colors everywhere, wood paneling on top of stainless steel? And then a paper wall menu with some paint on the other side, makes no sense at all. You will walk by a makeshift bar with a three beer tap system that only offers two beers that no one seems to know how to pour correctly. So you have walked by the bar, now your seeing a register that, correct me if I am wrong, NEVER has anyone ever standing behind it. An older lady is always sitting off to the side, giving you the impression she would rather cut her leg off then have to get up and help you. So I'm standing there looking at a menu that seems to have good coffee options, and smoothies. But the food?! What the hell are these people thinking, jeez it is absolutely disgusting and so over priced. Just the pictures alone, look gross. The older lady, which I find out later is the owner of the place, finally gets up after I almost consider sitting down to wait for someone to take my order. She asked me what I would like and I ordered a latte I wanted to play it safe, and a dried out obviously old muffin. It takes about 10 Minutes to get my order to me being the only person in the place, and let alone the owner had no happiness or enthusiasm to take care of her customers or even gave two shits I just gave her business. I sit down by a make shift stage looking at a wall with paint missing all over it and I start to drink my latte, it tastes good. I go to eat my muffin and for one its stale and tasteless. Just wondering why a business would rather serve stale muffins to save a couple dollars rather than throw them out at the end of the day and start fresh. Its things like this can really show a places priorities and give a decent idea of how they run there business. Anyways after I finish my drink, I immediately want to get leave the place is dusty and unmaintained. So that's my first experience. Now that I have kind of giving a visual of space I will just sum this up real quick with the two shows I went to after. I am all about 2nd chances and I really was interested to see if my first experience was just a bad day for them. between all the old looking posters and stickers everywhere about events, the comedy show seemed to be the thing to try. yet another failed attempt... The way they set up the tables and everything was horrible, no way to walk around at all and enjoy socializing. I had not eaten before coming so I had to suck it up and give something a shot. I had been rung up by the owner again, I order a Panini and a house coffee. Between talking, the owner is just interrupting me, and turning to yell at her staff with no care in the world I am right in front of her. I get my receipt and walk away. About 15 minutes later, a younger lady walks up to me, and what seemed to be their cook, had a chef jacket on , She hands me the food, is very polite asks me how my night was going and if I needed anything. Walked away. Now, for one, why was she bringing my food out when I turn to grab some napkins and the owners are just sitting there and this girl has sweat all over her face and clearly looked busy. there was a lot of people there and It took quite awhile to get my food. I just think they weren't worried about optimizing ticket times and making a smooth running operation just over working a young girl because they're to lazy to do some thing as simple as walk food out to a customer. The Panini was great actually didn't expect that and the show went on. Comedians kind of hit or miss, the bar girl was an air head, didn't seem to know anything. But to finish this up, I walked over to the register right before leaving early to buy a bag of chips and I am standing for about 15 minutes before being acknowledged and a darker man comes up , he seems as clueless as the bar girl. Did he even know how to use a register? I may never know, but as I am showing him the bag of chips he gets distracted by the older lady, she's yelling, literally yelling at him and clenching her fists and he walks away from me!!!! Doesn't even ring me up, so I stand their awkwardly waiting to give him a dollar, they are arguing and the cook lady is trying to get past them and It was completely unprofessional. Yelling and screaming in front of all of the people in line? How completely incompetent do you have to be? At this point I give up leave my dollar and walk out. This place was by far the WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. Do not go here, it is a waste of your time. Owner is a rude stuck up person I never want to see a read more

I had been there at least times in the past 10 days and even purchasing two drinks at the same time. While they tasted great, I won't be going back for the following reason...I asked about whether they had a frequent buyer card and the answer was yes. I said "that's great, I wish I would have known about it since I have bought 4 drinks in the past 10 days"..her reply was " you should have asked". Okay, fair enough, but don't you think you should have offered? Isn't that what good business owners do? And....of course she only punches the card for THAT visit...even though SHE was the one who was there each time I visited. Great little funky local coffee shop! If you're a regular, sign up for their loyalty club and you'll get coupons emailed regularly. I stop by every few weeks after school with my son for a mini date. The customer service has always been great. I've never ordered the food, but the coffee is always good. I got an Acai bowl for like almost $8. And felt like it was a rip off. I got 4 slices of strawberry and banana. Not to mention I paid extra for coconut on top and barely got any! They blended the Acai with what tasted like ice, because I had chunks of ice in my bowl and it tasted watered down. I recently moved into the La Mesa area and pass by this Cafe everyday. I had really high hopes because of how much I see they offer. I went in earlier today and when I walked inside the place was infested with homeless people. We had a hard time ordering because one of the employees there was arguing with a homeless man. The whole time looking at the menu I couldn't focus because of the arguing conversation. The worker there told the man to leave but he wouldn't, and from what I heard this is an on going situation. My girlfriend and me ordered a panini each and a strawberry banana smoothie. The smoothie was ready pretty fast and it was good! We sat down and waited for the food to be ready while the arguing continued. The cafe all in all is very nice and a perfect size I saw they even have open mic nights. Eventually the rude homeless man left, but not because of the 2 employees we saw, plus one claimed to be a manager. But because a fellow customer was guilt tripped into buying the homeless man a meal. A good 20-30 mins later and our sandwiches were finally ready. 20-30 mins to make 2 sandwiches???? It doesn't matter how busy the place is, no place should take this long to make food! Plus the sandwiches were pretty mediocre especially for a bill that was more than $30. I would like to give this place 1 star but the staff remained nice and the smoothie was good. read more

One of the nicest small cafes ever. The atmosphere is quiet and calming. I use it for local meetings to talk with potential clients. They have all loved it and it is now my good luck charm. The only reason why I am giving this coffee shop three stars is because the family that works there is really awesome. The ambiance is cool and the pastries are really yummy too. NOW the only reason why I feel like I can't give it a full five is because of their coffee drinks and acai bowls. I live right down the street and I prefer to support local business than go to a chain like Starbucks but the truth is that when I order a caramel cappuccino I get a really weird tasting latte, I want a hot chai, I get a chai that is way too hot and you can tell that the milk was steamed for way too long and was burnt. when I order an americano with lots of room for cream, I get the drink filled to the top, when I want a vanilla chai, I get this warm syrup drink that is separated from the milk. I believe their barista skills can use a little tuning. The acai bowl, omg, I'm sorry, but I believe the acai should be blended thick and creamy, like a sorbet. The acai bowl I received was so watery and icy. Not only that, they only put granola and bananas without charge, any other fruit or coconut is extra. Again, the customer service is great, but I can't help but to feel like I'm spending my money on something that does not meet up to my expectations. I spent over six dollars for a big vanilla chai that tasted like warm syrup and when I told the barista it wasn't up to my expectations because I was tired of walking out of there unfulfilled, he was nice about it, and asked what else I would like. I ordered just an americano, room for cream and got a small americano with no room. So either way, I walk out, unfulfilled. read more

Tiny little internet cafe located in La Mesa. Went in there this morning to order some iced coffees. I told the owner Patricia that I would like vanilla syrup added and then she even responded back if I would like room for cream. Got my ice coffee and went back to work as soon as I leave the store I noticed there's no vanilla syrup in my coffee oh well I'll drink it as is not a big deal. I also bought a coffee for my coworker who upon going back to the space bar and complaining the coffee was made in correctly the owner Patricia said yes the coffee was made correctly and nobody ordered vanilla syrup and we could have the receipt as proof. Now I've worked in customer service for about 15 years and never in my life when I customer has come back to complain about order being incorrect have I sent them away without fixing the problem. Later I returned back to the space bar to get a copy of my receipt just to see if indeed I ordered the coffees incorrectly. The waitress at the front told me Patricia the owner was busy so I can't in you to wait until she came out of the kitchen. About five minutes past and Patricia never came to talk to me, so I asked the waitress if she would be coming out soon to speak to me about my order. The waitress replied no I said she was cooking. Now feeling really mistreated I left the restaurant and said I would be calling to speak to the owner. Upon calling the restaurant the waitress realize I was calling and hung up the phone while I was on hold. I've been called back and upon answering the phone it was Patricia so I questioned her about my order I had placed this morning and she continued to tell me that I never ordered the coffee with vanilla period now instead of just fixing the problem and giving me a few shots of vanilla syrup she continue to argue with me and talk over as I was trying to express the situation. Now things are heated and the conversation is not going well Patricia then decides to tell me that she will no longer talk to me and hangs up the phone. This is the worst customer service I have ever received from any type of public facility period I will never step foot in this restaurant ever again and I will make sure that all of my co-workers know about the rude customer service I received while visiting this place. I will not recommend the spacebar to anybody I will blatantly tell everybody who says they want to go there that this place should not be open for business and the owner of Patricia needs to have a reality check. Without customers your business would be nothing and I mean nothing without customers who spend their money in your little restaurant. Customer service is everything these days and this place needs to learn that. I hope that your petty $0.30 worth of vanilla was worth all the bad publicity that you will be getting do to your poor customer service. Spacebar is crap they take way too long to make an oatmeal I had a guy walk out because you take too long to make oatmeal this place is a joke should not be open and hopefully other people realize that this at spacebar is really nothing more then a hole in the wall that sells crappy overpriced food. I'm giving this place 4 stars for one reason only. Bri. She is possibly the best employee there. It's unfortunate that she only works a couple of days there because she is fast, efficient, and she cooks really well and she knows her stuff about drinks. I've come in on saturdays and she always greets me with a hello. The other guy there who I am assuming is her boss doesn't pay much attention to guests. I've gone in on weekdays when bri wasn't working and the service and food was not the same. MAKE SURE BRI IS THERE. She has very white skin and dark hair and if she isn't in the front, ask if she's in the back. (Which most of the time she is) and be sure to specify that you want her cooking your food. One of the most awkward places I have been to and I used to take my stripper ex wife to church with me and my family. When I walked in there were a couple of customers sitting at a small table in front of the register who immediately stared at me as I walked in. And another customer sitting on a couch eating. By the looks I received from the two, I figured one of them worked there. I was wrong. I stood at the vacant register waiting to be attended thinking an employee was in the back doing things. Again I was wrong. Customer #3 who was eating on the couch eventually got up and walked behind the counter to attend to me....yes she waited to finish her snack, meal, or lunch before even acknowledging I was there. A simple, hey! I'll be right with you would've sufficed. She took my order which consisted of 2 smoked salmon bagels and 2 iced coffees with extra shots of espresso. The order took 25 mins from the time I completed my order to the time of delivery to the counter. A fourth customer even came in ordered, received her order and left before even one coffee was done. I finally received my order and my iced coffees were merely vanilla creamer on ice. Overall a terrible experience. I hope this was just a bad day and not a trend. Good luck read more

Ya know, it's a cool place but every time I come here they are out of coffee or it's cold. They use those "pump your own coffee" pots that just sit out all day. One time I asked if she would heat my cup in a microwave. I'm fine with that but she insisted that she make a new pot. Nice of her, but I was in a rush. The micro is just fine with me. Another time I came the coffee pots were all empty so I had to wait for her to brew it for me. Nice, but very inconvenient. They also need a bell or something because they spend a lot of time in the kitchen where they can't see me. I guess they repair computers now because there is a dissected computer just sitting out on the table with the memory just sitting out for anyone to touch or grab. If this were my cafe I'd have hot fresh coffee out like most if not all other coffee shops. Nobody likes to wait for a pot to brew. I'd put a bell at the register so people don't have to do the "hello, anybody here" game. I wouldn't charge $1 for a refill. Expensive Starbucks is only 75cents. Too bad. It's a very nice place, but the service is not convenient for the consumer. The shop up the street is cheaper and always has plenty of hot coffee ready with plenty of employees in front ready to take your order. read more
