What a fun stop after brunching at Brasil! Space is a Mecca for all things Houston and handmade. Items ranged from Houston tshirts and gummy bear earrings to stone necklaces and Houston artwork. The prices seemed quite in line with other local artisan shops I've stopped at throughout the country. One of my favorite tests of a great business is if they greet you with a warm welcome upon entering the business. Check! Space did an excellent job at this. This is a fantastic store! It's filled with unique items from various artists. Another reviewer said like Etsy in a real store space and that may capture it best. What's great about that is, when I'm on Etsy half the time I wish I could see the time in person- here you can!! There was jewelry, candles, natural deodorant (I was super excited about that), tiles, mugs, clothing, kids items, and more. The owner was warm and helpful- she made sure to chat with each customer that came in and treated them all as if they were a friend. We used to walk by this store all the time when heading to Domy Books or the nightmare that is Brasil. For example, today we parked on the street in front of someone's house (who was outside, awkwarddd) and walked by Space Montrose. Went to Domy Books, bought some absurd squid/jellyfish stacking toy, and on our way back, she decided to stop by. I knew I was in trouble within 5 mins because this kind of store is the kind of store that'll bring her out of Yelp Retirement. Stationary...cute stationary...local artists, original artwork for under $100 (under $75 from what i saw), just the kind of thing that would really sucker her in... it's like that store next to Sprinkles except a lot better curated and a lot more original. More Houston flavor. So that's all awesome and everything but the really great part about this place is that it isn't absurdly expensive... as in, it could easily be one of those absurdly expensive places - original 5" by 7" matted artwork for $250 kind of place...but it isn't at all. So I bought stationary ("From the Desk of ______________) and a Lisa Chow (?) drawing that I thought she'd like and spent less than $100. Say what you want but compared to the photographs being sold at Southside for $220, I might as well have been robbing the place. Owner was cool. Told us they're moving across the street to the new place being built. We'll be repeat customers, without a doubt. Absolutely fell in love with this store as soon as I walked in. I think it's important to support local talent, and individual artist in general, and love seeing originality. This store definitely has it, and I like the fact that Space gives people with so much talent a platform to show their stuff. If you have a baby, get your butt over to this store, they have the CUTEST onesies with Texas, and Mr T on them. Some of their homemade baby stuff made me almost want to have a baby. If you are looking for an original baby shower gift, this is your place. They have a ton of really great art work, prints, jewelry, and really great T Shirts with Texas stuff, and Montrose. I've been wanting to go to this place for a while since I love local art. After at the common bond next door, I decided to go in. It was packed with works from local artists: posters, cards, jewelry, t-shirts. If you're looking for a unique Houston souvenir then this is definitely the place to stop by. I love coming to this store to find gifts and cards for my friends! They have so many Texas and Houston inspired items, and the people who work here are also very helpful. One time I briefly mentioned who I was buying for, and the woman working helped me find the perfect gift. They have a ton of variety in the items they offer, so I'm always finding something new each time I go in. Parking can sometimes be a struggle, even though they have specific spots marked for their store (they share a parking lot with Common Bond), but that struggle is usually to be expected with the Montrose area in general. You can usually find parking on some nearby side streets, if it comes to that and you don't mind walking a little. read more

UGH. Since moving from their quaint converted-house-turned-store to this new building, they've completely lost their charm. While it may be the same variety, quality and quantity of products from their previous space, I feel lost in the store. Ironic to say since their new location is wide open. Their former store made me feel like I was scavenging for cool new pieces - be it new jewelry, threads or a new art print. There were nooks, crannies and it always felt like every corner I turned was a new surprise assortment of products. Now all I see are white walls and stuff. STUFF. Stuff that just blends in with everything else. I support Space because it supports local artists and independent designers - Houston needs more of that. But I'm mourning the quirky feel of its former home. Ugh. Sigh. Face palm. read more

This is my go to place for unique gifts, especially cool tee shirts, jewelry, art and note cards. Space Montrose sources their inventory from local and regional designers/ craftsmen. I love finding items that have a story, support local artists and that not everyone has :). Space also offers Houston themed items like coasters, cutting boards and Christmas ornaments featuring Houston murals and landmarks, perfect souvenirs for out of town guests or to show your Houston pride. IMPORTANT NOTE: Space shares a parking lot with fab pastry/ coffee shop: Common Bond. Do not leave your car in the lot and cross the street. It will be towed. I made the mistake of crossing the street to buy a coffee (to go) at Cafe Brasil after shopping at Space. When I returned, my car was towed. The parking lot is video monitored by the property owner, and if they see someone leave their car in the lot (even customers of Space/ Common Bond), it will be towed immediately. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE. It's so cute! This store has something for everyone! Best yet, it's all local products and art. There is eclectic art and jewelry. Candles, soap, t-shirts, art prints that go from strange to sublimely adorable. Stuffed felt toys and baby clothing that is just too cute. I can't get enough of this store. There are handmade cards for almost any occasion- so witty and funny! The art on everything is wonderful. Staff is always really nice, no matter when I come in. I like to describe this place to my friends and coworkers as a brick and mortar Etsy store. Actually a lot of the items here can be found on Etsy because a lot of the artists have Etsy stores. Everything here has been made in the USA and all by indie artists. You can find graphic tees, greeting cards, tons and tons of prints to hang on the wall or frame, jewelry, baby items, purses, candles, soaps, pins, keychains...I think you get the gist. Everything is reasonably priced as well. They rotate items and artists so it's worth checking out every once in a while as they may have different items. The employees are friendly too. read more

Each time I got to visit Austin, I wonder why they have so many stores that support local artists, yet in Houston--not many to be found. I really love this store and I LOVE that I can buy "Texas" themed t-shirts that have a modern feel to the design. All of the inventory seems curated with a good eye. Ummm such a cute little SPACE right in the heart of Montrose! I was researching places with 'Texas' souvenirs to give as a gift to a friend and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. It's a cute little shop located right next to Common Bond. They have a wide selection of items all made by local artists, HOW COOL! I ended up going with a cute dainty bar necklace which had the word Texas engraved in it and it turned out to be the perfect gift! The store clerk (owner?) is also very nice and helpful. This place made me miss home a little bit. LOVED the location of this creative local artsy joint! SO quirky and cute! Space Montrose invites you in to shop a bunch of local finds from artwork, jewerly, clothes, cards, soaps, prints, pottery, baby clothes ... you name it they had it. Well of course I couldn't just look.. I left with a few fun things..... I now own some beautiful hand crafted Columbian inspired drop earrings and a lightweight blue sweatshirt that has leaf prints on the front.... I'm in LOVE! I have a friend loving our pups while we were away and found some handmade scented soap samplers for her... I know she will love them! Hum what else.... oh yeah got 2 adorable "otter" blank note cards. We also found a great print and some earrings for other friends.......... This place was an adorable find and a perfect compliment to our Saturday morning. Walking into space is like walking into etsy if it had a store front. I have always loved looking into its store front at the old location but had never gone in. When they moved locations I decided it was time to try it out. There are so many things to look at, all from local people! There is tons of jewelry in all price points and all different tastes. From simple charm necklaces to large statement pieces. There is also many art pieces from local artists. There were also many handmade stuffed animals and I wanted to take them all home. You never know what you are going to find. The old location had zero parking but this new location has a very large lot in the back that they will share with common bond when they open. This store is a great place to find gifts and gift cards for all those people that ar hard to shop for. read more

There is nothing wrong with this store but I would just prefer pay reasonable prices and shop elsewhere. It's essentially a brick and mortar Etsy shop/hipster boutique. The items are priced about 3x more than what you would find online. They sell a lot of "unique" and "one-of-a-kind" items but I've found similar items either at other stores or online. They carry a variety of items from local artists. However, these local artists often sell their items at farmer's markets and online for cheaper. It's a very organized and clean store but I'd rather just go to the farmer's market and buy direct from the artists there. read more

Jewelry, tons of art prints, delicate pendants and earrings, creative greeting cards and home decor. Their prints in particular are so varied and beautiful and I've never walked out without buying something. This store has a great collection of locally sourced goods from towns throughout Houston. They also have products from smaller brands throughout the US (I noticed they carried a brand from my hometown in Florida which was awesome to see)! The store associate was very kind. A few things were a little over priced (i.e. A super tiny succulent that was maybe an inch tall was $12. I had some time to kill while waiting for my sister to hang out nearby and popped into this place with the intriguing knickknacks on display in their window. They have a great selection of jewelry, stationary, art, bags, baby clothes, soaps, and lotions and more from independent designers. Sure, you could look on Etsy, but it's so much more fun to browse in person. The prices weren't unreasonable given the the uniqueness and local flavor of the objects.
