Studying abroad in Italy is a great opportunity to see the Coliseum, Vatican City, Roman Forum, Pompeii, Cinque Terre... but most importantly....to eat delicious food.
Eating around campus is tough- you eventually get sick of Cafe Grif and Cafe Grif... and those damn rice balls, and this strange italian pizza. And thus when I stumbled upon this restaurant one evening with a few friends in search for another restaurant (that presumably closed down in the past 3 yrs), I was impressed enough to go back again. (Okay thats not fair, there are limited options around here and this was a pretty damn repeat choice).
On the right night I had the Fettuccine w. Ragu sauce. For 8 Euro, the portion size was a good value for the price. The pasta is cooked just right, and the sauce was tart but salty but meaty but plentiful but delicious but why wasn't there bread on the table so I could slop up the remainder of my sauce (and my friends')?? Another friend had the 3rd item on the pasta menu (Lol thats about as helpful as I can be here), and the sauce was even better than mine. It had tomatos, panchetta, and a homemade looking pasta.. The highlight of that dish is the pasta. Its really thick and delicious oh god the texture! The 3rd friend had the dish that looked like lo mein noodles with carbonara sauce. He got it twice in a row.. so.. I presume it's good. When I delivered my impression of his dish to him, he replied "yep thats exactly how it tastes!"
Oh the second visit I tried the gnocchi di mare (12euros)- it has baby shrimps and 2 prawns. The prawns I know have been dead for at least a day or two, however, I don't mind so much for 12 euros and a portion too big for me to finish. The gnocchi was good. Not an expert on gnocchi here but it was light and fluffy and doughy! The sauce is on the creamy side. Not too fishy. Lots of tomatoes here and there to add lightness to the dish.
A friend had the fettucine di mare. The sauce was a light olive oil/buttery/herb sauce. I've had better but still a good try. Lots of pasta but the clams weren't all that plentiful but given the price its expected. There was also tuna and baby shrimps in there.
We shared a plate of the classic cold cuts which came with rocket (lol arugula) and pitted olives. It was plenty to split between 4 people. The arugula was strangely delicious as it was coated in probably some sort of magical oil. The meats were rather salty but yum yum!
Their house wine was a great value too! And on a side note, the decor was terribly cute in a half finished hipster construction kind of work way :)
TLDR- Highly recommended esp for students- they take meal tickets! read more
