We visited Archimede 80 our first night in Rome... And our second night! It didn't hurt that it was within walking distance of our hotel, which came in handy after partaking of well chosen wine. Max our host and the entire staff made us feel welcome, answered our questions and made well received suggestions. On Thursday night it was relatively quiet, though we may have been there early given the late dinner hour in Italy. We had two pasta dishes including the traditional cacio e pepe made with delicious fresh pasta, Parmesan and black pepper. The second night we requested some fresh greens and were served a delicious salad, plenty for two, topped with fresh mozzarella, tomato slices that tasted as though they were fresh out of the garden, pine nuts and yummy briny olives. Max suggested fresh shrimp he had purchased from the coast that morning and we were not disappointed. Being used to Gulf shrimp, these seemed more like what I would call langostinos. Their texture was downright creamy and tasted out of this world. Beyond the food, on Friday night some entertainment was added in the form of Karaoke offered by our hosts. Before long the young people who populated the restaurant that evening in several groups were singing, clapping and laughing as were we being caught up in the frivolity. We topped off the meal with tiramisu and lemoncello. Take it easy with this liqueur as it can really sneak up on you as my dining companion can attest to. Our two nights at Archimede 80 will not be forgotten for the quality of food, the warmth of the staff and the fun and frivolity. read more
