Hidden gem in Midtown if you're needing a quick, affordable massage! While visiting NYC with friends, we spontaneously decided to treat our sore feet to a foot massage after a full day of sightseeing and walking around the city. Our friend called Spa45 on a whim around 4:00 PM on a weekday, and they were able to accommodate our group of four on short notice! We each opted for the 30-minute foot massage ($30). The therapist provided just the right amount of pressure throughout the session and it was just what we needed to unwind and reset after a long day. The spa has multiple rooms with maybe 4-6 padded sofa-chairs per room so they can accommodate many clients at once. I tried to leave a 20% tip and they told me it wasn't enough and that there was a "minimum tip" that I was required to give. I DO NOT recommend this spa at all. Not to mention the worker gave me incorrect change (she gave me $10 more than I was owed) and I corrected her and told her she gave me too much back and then three employees badgered me about a minimum tip. We came here during the evening and found it a little hard to find but I'm grateful for the signs that helped us find the door to take the stairs up. We called to schedule an appointment beforehand. We got there and got our scheduled foot massages and everything seemed fine. But then there was an annoying guy coming to the front - calling non stop and then making his way up there asking for "water table/shower massage" (yuck). No one could help him because everyone was busy but that meant one of our massage therapists coming in and out of the room to try and get the guy to settle down and stop being rude. Eventually, he left, but the fact that there was no dedicated staff to help answer phones and people up front means that our therapists had to keep coming in and out. And unlike most massage places of this nature, we did not get any work on our back lying down. Instead you sit up and get a short shoulder massage before they give you a little foot massage the whole time concentrating mainly on your foot - there could have been more focus on our actual legs. I go to this spa for foot massages as it is near my office, but will not be returning after ongoing negative experiences. The staff is extremely rude to customers and also yells loudly both to each other and other customers while in the middle of giving massages. This is very disruptive and totally negates the purpose of going for a relaxation massage. They also refuse any accommodations such as asking for a more comfortable massage chair. They talk to each other about the customers loudly in a foreign language, clearly laughing at them. They never even say hello or goodbye. Was in the city for work and had a couple hours to spare before departing and was really sore, so gave this place a shot. Called from outside to make sure they could take a 1:45pm walk in which they said to come up. Entrance is a hallway to an elevator, take that up to the third floor. Elevator opens behind you right into the spa. First impression was very good - clean, nicely decorated, with single and double rooms (real walls with sliding doors). I didn't see the foot massage area personally. Everything is very professional and well kept. Rooms are very small but the therapist worked around my large backpack I set in the corner. Sign on the wall says to keep underwear on when undressing. A sheet is provided to cover with. Mia (or Nia?) started with an over-the-sheet warmup massage, then did a head/scalp massage that was absolutely incredible. All stress just melted away. She then continued with standard oil massage. It was unscented and seemed to be a bit better quality than other places. She never asked what pressure I wanted, but she had it right the whole time. Excellent back/shoulders/etc. My legs you can put your elbow through my calf and it's still not hard enough. She was fairly light on the legs and I caught myself nearly asleep three times it was so relaxing. So it was both too gentle and just right lol. Standard hot stone, then some head/face/chest/legs at the end. It was $55 for the hour, and I tipped an additional $15. Great value for a really good massage in Manhattan. read more

I showed up at 9 PM on a Friday night with no appointment and was accommodated immediately. I opted for 30m back/body and 30m foot since I had walked like 10 miles that day. It was pretty decent. Not the best ever but nothing painful like as one of the worse places I've been to. Masseuse was friendly and professional. Very dirty!!! The walls are covered in oil splashes layered with dust. I hope the women here are not being trafficked. If you are a female they will tell you a name different from what they tell male clients. This makes me wonder why they would do that. Greedy, tacky and unprofessional. While the service itself during the massage was ok (I give it a 7/10) they lose additional points for the rude way their workers try to tip shame you. I wasn't in town during the Covid lockdown, and started going back to Spa 45 (more specifically to Ruby, who is fantastic!!!) for a few months now. I'm sure the other therapists are great, but I always make my appointments with Ruby and I simply cannot recommend her highly enough!! I have been a regular for some time and love the massages, but the service on paying is awful and they 'tip shame' you, even when you generously leave 20-25%. It's enough to make me find alternative locations. I hope they fix this issue, which I see other customers are complaining about. read more

I can only tell it as it happened. As I entered and was shown the room, I was given my room and I prepared. My masseuse was pleasant and asked about the pressure to begin. Then it took a turn. Too many massage therapists talking during the massage. Then my masseuse left the room once, to welcome a new guest. She left again and left the door open as she spoke loudly to someone else. Then she left while my lower half was exposed for a third time. The last time she did it, I told her that it was not nice. I explained that I've come here to relax and not to have my energy interrupted every 5 minutes..She replied saying that they had new management or something... Also, I expressed that it felt good when she did my lower back and she replied, "Yrs so you will leave me a good tip?" This massage was prepaid with a tip in it. I believe she knew this and asked anyway. I was not relaxed when I left. I won't be returning and I'll be requesting a refund. read more

Walked in on a Saturday with my fiancé and it was only a 10 min wait. We chose the reflex massage for 35$ and it included a neck and upper back massage while your feet soak. Then they move onto feet and you slip into heaven. The massage was amazing! Just enough pressure, and I had to actively keep myself from falling asleep so I could enjoy myself. Will be coming back for sure! About the tip thing I read on here - they do have a sign behind the register saying "recommended" but by no means did they guilt me into it. I agree with another user on the tip policy.. I was shocked when I was informed the masseuse get only the 'mandatory' $10 tip and they have no salary or anything. I can't even believe this happens and I shouldn't feel guilty into paying more even though I wasn't a fan of the massage. I walked in without an appointment, and did one hour full body and one hour foot massage. Turns out they are less busy on weekends. The skill of the masseur was excellent, and is quite comparable to the ones I had in Taipei. The interior decoration is very nice. The experience is satisfying. However, I took away a star because they charge additional fee for credit card users, which I really dislike. Either accept the credit card customers without discrimination or go cash only - customers shouldn't be burdened with your business model. read more

Got a full body 60 min massage here recently. Extremely professional staff members, nice and friendly. The hot stones massage...i mean comeeeee on... it was so good. I have been here several times at this point and there has been an issue each time. I've returned stupidly since it's close to home and has decent prices but will not be going back now. At every appointment there has been an interruption taking away several minutes and taking you out of the zone, such as taking phone calls, checking out other people, or sometimes just disappearing for no discernible reason. The last time and nail in the coffin for me was that she cut the massage short 8 minutes - they don't use a timer but I had set mine since I know this has been an issue before. As I checked out and paid full price I offered a $8 cash tip which was rudely thrown back at me and she demanded 10$. I explained that she did not provide the full hour and that's when she pretended to not understand me and continued to demand $10. I gave it to her to avoid further aggravation to myself and will not be returning. There are other, more professional and customer service oriented places in the neighborhood. read more

Really weird experience. Went with two friends and each of us had a 30 minute foot massage. The massages were unproblematic and satisfactory. The payment experience was extremely unprofessional. We paid for our massages with a credit card and were charged a fee for each individual massage rather than the transaction as a whole. Meaning we were charged three credit card fees to run two credit cards transactions. Not ideal, but we rolled with it. We were totally unprepared for what came next...We paid appropriate tips, in excess of 20%. And two of the masseuses questioned one of my friends as to whether he wanted to *change* his tip amount to match what the other members of our party gave. At first we didn't understand what she was suggesting, it didn't compute that she was trying to tip shame someone in our party. While I respect a good hustler, this is not a question of working hard. Trying to tip shame a customer, especially when they have paid a 20% gratuity is totally unacceptable behavior. read more

Spa45 is a no-frills, affordable massage spot near Grand Central, and best of all, they take walk-ins. Recently, I found myself with 40 free minutes and horrible back pain, and after a (slow) elevator ride up to the third floor, they were able to treat me immediately. They did try to convince me multiple times to do an hourlong massage instead of the 30-minute one I requested, even during the massage, which wasn't really very relaxing, but in the end, the half-hour massage I got was still better than some hourlong ones I've had elsewhere in the past. If you have time for the hour, it's a better deal anyway, but I appreciated that they were still willing to do it even though I didn't. The pressure was really firm, which was absolutely what my aching back needed, and hot stones are always a nice inclusion at the end of a massage. Unlike other reviews, there was no pressure with respect to tip amount. I would return, for either a regular massage or the foot reflexology, especially if I had a full hour to relax. read more

I came here for a full body massage pretty late and they were very accommodating and decently priced for Manhattan. I like that this place is 24 hours and you can literally get a massage anytime! It was 50 a person after 12am, otherwise it's 45. The masseuse I had made sure I was comfortable and wasn't too hard on my back. They used the hot stones and that was my favorite part. The only thing I didn't like was being able to hear the phone ring kind of loud while the massage was going on. I tuned it it after a while but that would be the only thing I hope they improve. If anything , make sure the volume of the phone isn't so loud while people are getting their massage or maybe play some light relaxing music! Terrible. Worst massage I've ever had. They "massage therapists" talk to each other non stop while massaging you that it's hard to relax. They aren't really trained. They rub your skin which isn't a massage or they use their knuckles. I had to tell them how to do it multiple times and where i want to focus on, but they don't listen and continue doing whatever you want. I was there with friends and we all had the same experience. The lady kept rubbing over my spine which a a big no no and it was painful. In someone who loves deep tissue and I generally like a hard massage. This was NOT that. Not once did she massage my Knots it was like she was doing everything opposite what you're supposed to do and mr friends said the same happened to them. Try go in and out of the room in the middle of your massage. It's loud and not relaxing. Also I need to say this as it was very unprofessional. While she was massaging my legs she took the towels off me and I was completely exposed and I felt uncomfortable because there was a male therapist massaging my friend next to me that could see me. This is not ok. And what is normal is for them to cover the rest of the body that isn't being worked on. To top it all off when we were paying we were told if we use credit or debit we had to pay a $7 tax each. This is illegal. The tax they are trying to make us pay is some random number. Being in business ourselves we know that a company pays a small fee credit card transaction fee to the credit card machine company, this would not be a $7 tax fee. They are most likely trying not to pay taxes and therefore making customers pay for their taxes. THEN when we decide to pay cash and the lady demands we each pay $10 for every hour we have a massage. We had a $35 "foot rub" and a $45 "back massage " which means she wants us to pay $20 each for tip. If someone likes the service and wants to be nice the Norman is to pay 20% on what we pay for any service. She wanted us to pay minimum of $20 for and $80 service. Then we decided to pay the 20% on $80 and she got mad and told us not to come back again. Then I had heard from another friend went there that they tried to make her pay the tip before the service even started. Tip is not mandatory and it is based on how well you liked the service. How are you supposed to tip on something that you haven't received? There are so many cheap massage places in the city. Don't go here it's gross and not good. Do yourself a favor and sort the reviews for this place but the worst and read all the negative ones. It seems we all had the same experience. I wish I read them before I wasted my money.
