This glowing skin, that doesn't look a day over 23 (don't bother asking my real age, it ain't gonna happen, ok), this skin owes its dewy complexion to Tea at Spa Glisten. I'm not sure why the trend in LA spas is to sell a facial and then nickle and dime you for every addition pluck, tweeze and cream they put on you. The spa experience is supposed to be relaxing. Menu shopping every addition I *think* I want in my facial is not relaxing. Spa Glisten is different. My deep pore facial ($75) is custom tailored to my skin by Tea, and whatever she slathers on me is included in that price. Some times I come in and I'm at my wit's end with the family, and my stressed out skin shows it. By the end of summer I start to feel guilty for all that summer sun. Whatever my skin conditions are, Tea is the consummate professional in finding my perfect facial elixir. Which speaking of elixir, Spa Glisten carries Janssen Cosmeceuticals. Listen ladies, I've bought as much product as a senior stylist at NY Fashion Week circa 2007. Once Tea introduced me to Janssen, I haven't looked back. This stuff is the ish. Period. Back to my facials. Relaxing, precise and custom tailored. What's not to love? I also stop in and see Tea for my waxing needs, particularly my Brazilian wax requirements ($50). If you need a bikini wax this is the place to have it done! I'm going to be honest there is no such thing as a painless bikini wax. So I was completely petrified on my first visit, from past painful experiences, however Tina assured me she would be very gentle. And gentle she was! My friend and I were hoping for a lovely, relaxing, girlie experience at the end of a particularly nasty work day and I could not have been more disappointed by this facility. First, it seems like the inside is still under construction. Next, there was an incredibly small selection of colors available (comprised mostly of reds and pinks). And while this is said to accept credit cards, this is NOT the case. We were told that nail services were CASH only and it was a huge hassle to explain that I had NO CASH on me and that I would have to leave, find an ATM and come back. There IS a card machine in the salon (in the back, on the floor) and I was able to run my card but not after much scolding over the CASH ONLY policy and the "HUGE sign" stating this policy (an 8"x11" piece of paper taped to the polish cabinet at the BACK of the facility with text from top to bottom in size 12 - 16 font). While the women providing the services were kind to us, they were incredibly rough when filing, scrubbing the feet and cleaning under the toe nails. I pulled away several times only to continue to get "mugged" throughout my pedicure. My toes hurt the rest of the evening. Even though the price was decent (pretty cheap compared to most places), I do not think that was an excuse for the experice we had last night. read more

The massage chairs are heavenly, and Kim is the sweetest human being on the planet. She took her time on her nails even though they were closing soon--she didn't rush at all. My nails look perfect. They look the best they ever have. This woman is so nice that it was refreshing to see in a business where most people are just excited to leave after a long day. She put my purse on my shoulder, put my friends shoes on her feet, and knew every person that walked in, asking questions like, "how is your mom doing?" Immaculate work and the right price. I went with a 3-gal group to get mani-pedi's for NYE, ranging from regular polish to gel, and natural to bright and dark colors. Each job was absolutely on-point, from the nail shaping to the cuticle work and, of course, polish. I was really impressed by the work with the light natural colors, because usually it's easy to see gradations in the paint, bubbles, or particles that get stuck in the paint. Not with these guys! My nails were still perfect. We left a 25% tip we were so pleased. Also, the team has great, caring customer service, and this place is exceptionally clean, well decorated, and has new, clean equipment, including awesome massage chairs. We were so relaxed and happy with our whole experience there. My sister in law made an appointment this weekend to get our mani and pedi and I immediately felt the positive vibe from this place. Very clean and inviting. Tina took care of mani and another Tina did my pedi. They were both were so great and sweet. We had great conversations and not once did I feel uncomfortable or rushed. Loved them!! While I had my nails done I noticed facials were being done as well. I have never had a facial and honestly pretty hesitant since I've heard some stories of people having allergies and break outs after. I was told the product is from Germany and I knew that whoever doing the facial knew their product and knew about the good stuff! Here came Tea! She is simply wonderful. So sweet so informative. I really wanted to like this place. I just moved to the area and while passing by, I noticed this place had great reviews so decided to run in and get a quick mani/pedi done. They seemed nice. The salon looked clean (though completely empty on a Saturday). I asked for the rate, they said $30. Ok great! They saw I was in a hurry and said they could do it at the same time. Ok great! (I do that all the time). The lady said it would be $5 more. Was a bit unusual to be charged extra because I do this all the time, but ok whatever, it was about convenience at that point. While the lady was doing my pedi, I just mentioned to scrub the callous area (and not to skip over it, as they could see I was in a hurry). She says ok, does it, and then says that'll be $10 more. Oh wow, ok whatever. As they're finishing up, I notice my sandals might not work with the drying pedicure and ask if they have slippers (don't all salons?). She says no then says yes but that it'll be $2 extra. Oh my goodness people, stop trying to make an extra buck on every little thing! In the end she already swiped my card before telling me the slippers would be extra and so she didn't say anything and I ran out in a hurry. This is where it got weird. I had left something at their salon and had to stop by a few days later to pick it up. As I am putting the item into my car (by the loading zone next to their salon), the lady runs out and starts yelling "Wait, I forgot, wait!" And as I stop to see what's up, she runs up and starts pointing a sticky note with numbers at me, telling me she forgot to charge me the extra $5 last time and that I still owe $2 for the slippers! Who does that?! Unbelievable. Lady, if you can't count and didn't charge my card properly, don't come running to my car the following week telling me I owe you more money! It was the weirdest experience. The weird add ons didn't bug me as much. But running up to my car telling me you forgot to charge me the extra $5 and that I still owe for the pedi slippers, that was just so unprofessional. I planned on coming here all the time, it's in a good location for me and the other ladies seemed nice. But the principle of that whole transaction just made me never want to step foot in that salon ever again.
