Their new seat assignments don't work. I bought a basic ticket (where they give you seating assignment at the gate) but when I go to check in, I see they have put me on standby. But I have the option to upgrade the ticket and be guaranteed a seat, which seems slimy but I paid an extra 99.00 to be guaranteed. I check in but they next day I see I have been put on standby again, because I didn't also purchase an upgraded seat, the only seats still available are handicap seats and those are locked until the handicapped people check in. So 45 min before my flight I am cleared. I'm on the window of the very last row but whatever. Then we are on the plane, and 40 mins after scheduled departure time(3:25) we haven't left and the captain comes on and says the plane has turned into a pumpkin - there was to be a mandatory check in our destination and if we had been in the air by 359 it would have been fine but since we weren't, the mandatory check had to happen at the departure airport and we are now deplaning. I almost always fly American but the southwest terminal at lax is so much nicer I thought I would take a chance. After spending more than I would have on an American flight, I'm fine with southwest. The last few experiences weren't great but this was the last straw. STAY AWAY if you want to actually want to get somewhere. Even Spirit is superior. I fly every week and my experiences with southwest are the worst. If I could give zero stars I would!! read more

I have been dealing with Southwest for a good 10 years straight, but I had the pleasure of talking to Veronica 333 who amaze me by pronouncing my name right and then going on to give me excellent customer service she is a GEM! He was very kind, compassionate, and understanding! I had a rough time trying to do reservations planning a trip to Hawaii due to misunderstanding communication and I am 69. I had to slow down a reassign and reassess the trip and do it at a later time. I was doing it for my granddaughter who received a 4.0 accepted into 14 colleges, but I don't think she was excited about the trip because her mother wasn't gone so I believe that was a problem so I had to cancel my trip. She did the cancellation in regular time quicker than I was able to book the tickets and she did an excellent job of being so compassionate and so helpful. Y'all need to give her 1000 cocktail cards because she did that she did a job plus I'll give Veronica 333 810 if I can give her a 15 or a 20, I would I have been a manager at Barnes Goodwill in LA times for 30 years and she gave excellent. This is our first time flying with Southwest Airlines. My son who's on the spectrum needed extra time to board the plane so he can settle in. Customer service rep kindly directed us to pre boarding line. We were the first to board the plane. Great start to begin our vacation. We were assigned to the front with extra legroom. Just glad we weren't sitting next to the restroom. Plane was cleaned with friendly flight attendants. During our flight, WiFi is available for rapid rewards members. I suggest you sign up for free otherwise, it's $8 per device. It's not the best WiFi network since it's running through T-Mobile. At certain points, it gets super slow then you have to refresh it manually. Made it very frustrating for us, especially for an autistic child who just wants to watch his favorite movie. Throughout our flight, complimentary snacks and drinks were provided. If you ask for full cans, they will kindly give it to you. Otherwise, they serve the drinks in paper cups and you'll constantly ask for refills. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. As long we arrived to our Hawai'i destination safely, that's what really matters. Would I choose to fly again with Southwest Airlines? And answered questions regarding assigned seats and group numbers. Also. I requested pre-check and she shared it's on the honor system. They don't add that on your boarding ticket any longer. Lastly, I shared why I wanted pre-check,she was compassionate and shared a similar health issue. Her customer service was exceptional. When traveling to Disneyland, I usually use John Wayne airport but tried Long Beach airport out. The Southwest Airlines crew were friendly and take off was on time. It's easy to maneuver this airport and board accordingly; though I'll say the uber to and from was more than JWA. Likely stick to that airport in the future, but this is one I'd consider if there was a good deal for the flight or something closer to this airport I was flying in for. read more

Well Jasmine has just told us middle seat passengers that we have to assist to open cabin windows if anything were to go down on this plane. Everyone in the middle section had to verbally say yes. We flew home yesterday after a nice visit with my mom. I have flown with SW for 2 decades. This flight was the worst experience I ever had. The new boarding process takes much longer than the other. I am not an A List member and am not sure why anyone would be. 4 groups get on before them, families with younger than 2 year old children, military, pre board, and disabled. On this flight that was half the passengers. Sorry A List! When we arrived existing the plan also took much longer. With assigned seats people who needed assistance were scattered throughout the plan. This lead to repeated slow downs because for various reasons. Attendants couldn't get down the isle to them to help them get out of the plan because other passengers where getting off to make their connecting flights. Then the wheel chairs were placed right infront of the door blocking anyone else from being able to get off. The entire experience was terrible and frustrating. Your old system was much more efficient. There is room for a lot of improvement. Or just go back to what was working for you. read more

Flew on Southwest Airlines for the first (and last) time from Long Beach CA to Las Vegas Nevada. When traveling, Delta is the airline of my preference, but since that was not an option I upgraded my tickets to Business Select to be sure we would be comfortable. Our problems with Southwest Airlines started the day before we departed as the Southwest Airlines mobile site was down and their website wasn't allowing me to sign on. So, we checked in on the day of our flight. When we arrived at Long Beach Airport there was pure chaos at the gate. I asked the Gate attendant why there was a crowd of people (50 people or so) at the gate and if there should be somewhere we should be standing in preparation of boarding. The attendant said there was no need to "line up" as the Business Select would be announced and everyone would board all at once. So, my husband and I waited off to the side assuming "Business Select" would be announced first. We were not. The call was made for sections "A 1-30" to board. This was the CROWD of people I mentioned were lined up. Our tickets said A-9... but we had to wait until the entire crowd of people went before us as we had not "lined up". Once we made it on the plane were were shocked that obvious couples were bogarting and entire row by one person sitting in the window seat and the other person sitting in the isle seat. I guess the purpose of this is to hope everyone boards the plane and perhaps the middle seat is empty. Before takeoff that flight attendant came over to my husband and I and asked us to remove our crossbody bags from our person and store them in the overhead bin? We thought this was strange as we've NEVER been asked to remove our fanny packs or crossbody bags on any other flight ever. What struck us was the manner in which the announcement was made. Something to the tune of "remove fanny packs and crossbody bags... yes... if you carried it on... it must be stored"... the tone was very patronizing. After all the boarding drama... dealing with the isle hoarders... and being spoken down to by the flight attendants I was ready to redeem the "One free drink" coupons that came with my airline ticket. When I asked the flight attendant about the drink she said there was only going to be coffee or water offered to EVERYONE. Ok... why did I receive a "free drink ticket" when there would be none offered? Lord. So... we finally made it to Las Vegas. Got out bags and off we went on our adventure. A few days later, it wast time to return home... Again, the mobile site was down but I was able to check in on the Website. I downloaded our passes and off the airport we went. Our driver dropped us in front of Southwest Airlines where we were met by a Southwest representative SCREAMING at all arriving guests instructing us to follow the line of people and stand at the end to check in. As we and other arriving guests asked why... he kept SHOUTING just stand in line to check in! Wow. We followed the line... and the line went all the way down the front of the airport ... turned the corner... and continued around the back of the airport! I was shocked! Once we got to our spot in line I called the Southwest Airlines customer service number to find out what the hell was going on. The representative explained that the conveyer belt system was broken in Las Vegas and as such, all checked bags are being processed manually. Needless to say, we were going to miss our flight. The agent on the phone helped us to reschedule our flight for 3-hours later. We ended up waiting in line almost 2-hours... myself and other guests literally had to open our luggage to find jackets as it was cold. Once we checked in we made our way to our gate and guess what... it was chaos again! This time we wised up and decided to stand at the front of the lines. What was absolutely shocking and down right absurd was when the gate agent started boarding. He called for guests that required "assistance" at that moment a group of about 30 people made their way to the gate. Two people were in wheelchairs (these I understood)... a few were families with babies in strollers... and a handful of people were guests with weight issues... this I didn't understand so much. What I didn't understand further was that these people... guests in wheelchairs... babies... overweight guests were all allowed on first and EVERYONE in their travel party was allowed on BEFORE guests that paid for business select. How is that possible? Other airlines do allow wheelchair guests on first... but not their entourage of 10 traveling with them. Well... as before... we survived the onboarding process... we observed the same bogarting of rows of seats accompanied by unfriendly stares ... we found our seats.... and immediately, the flight attendant announced there would be NO beverage service at all on the flight. Again... I stared down at my airline ticket wondering why a drink is promised if it's not going to be offered. read more

I'm a total SWA fan, and have been for decades! Seriously, I fly Southwest, out of Long Beach specifically, whenever I can. I know it's not fancy, but if you're looking for a good, solid flight crew, stability and security, and free stuff, SWA is the way to go. I flew on Thanksgiving this year AND a few days before Christmas. I flew to Minneapolis, (which is never a direct flight, but I don't care as long as I can fly from Long Beach and not LAX) right before Thanksgiving to be with family for a couple of weeks (and my new grandson was born while I was there!!), and then picked up my 4 year old grandson to bring back to CA with me. Flying with a small child is rarely easy, but the crew on SWA flights are always so kind. They treated him special, gave him "wings" and colored pencils and an activity book. They let him order his own drinks and brought him extra snacks. And the gates in all the airports we were in (Long Beach, Phoenix, Denver, Minneapolis) we totally decked out with fun and playful decor. I brought my grandson to CA to stay with me for a couple of weeks, but then I got COVID! I had to change my flight twice to bring him back home and it was looking like he might miss Christmas with his family!!! I finally got better and I called SWA again to see if I could get him home ASAP, and they helped me get another flight out for us both for a little more than 11,000 extra Southwest Rewards points (a few days before Christmas!!!) and a return flight for me the next day, so we both got where we needed to go with no problem!!! The Christmas and holiday decor at the SWA airports gates were hands down the best in the airport. Lots of places for my little guy to take photos and play. The flights were ALL on time, and not oversold like some airlines do. So, we got great seats, lots of attention, kind service, free luggage (no fees), and extra snacks. What more can you ask for???? I been using Southwest for a while now especially out of Long Beach. I mainly use them for Vegas since it's easy and convenient only issue is prices at certain times, usually going home from Vegas it's always delayed. They still use the first come first serve seating no assigned seating. You have to get your boarding pass group 24 hours in advance to get the better group. You can also pay extra to upgrade your boarding pass to get priority boarding. Staff however are excellent I have had no issues with them. Overall a good airline for me others may disagree but it's ok. read more

From the get go I knew my flight was delayed since the checkin screen showed delayed. The counter folks had no idea but did stop me at the airport checkin that I may miss my flight which I did address but they rest assured the plane will wait for me at Houston. Well that's a false pretense so don't promise customers that. I was stuck overnight and had to pay extra out of pocket for a hotel. Their voucher system is a joke and I haven't heard anything from them for 3 days. And I have to wait thirty days??? That's horrendous. Take your flight elsewhere. Have flown Southwest too many times to count. I'll never like the unassigned seats, ever, because I want a window seat and want to know this up front, when I buy the ticket. But based on where my business trips took me, sometimes SW was the only or the best option. Mostly, I check in as soon as it opens and have typically been in group A or B and only rarely, did not get a window seat. My most memorable flight was out of Sacramento. While at the gate, I saw Henry Winkler and lots of people approached him. He was kind and engaging with everyone, even letting them take selfies. He seemed to really enjoy his fans.. I didn't approach him because I believe in giving all people their space so it was ironic that I ended up sitting next to him. Truly a genuine and gracious man. Fight attendants are fine. LGB to SMF Southwest Airlines is Long Beach Airport's largest airline. Southwest flies to Long Beach Airport often, making it easy to plan our SoCal getaway. We did not experience any issues during our flights to/from SMF and LGB. It was a comfortable flight for a short plane ride even though I ended up in the middle seat. We always try to get in Group A but even though we checked in immediately 24-hrs before our flight we still got in the low Group B. Dang! People must be waiting on their phones to check in. With my big haul of Porto's to take home my hubby was afraid there wouldn't be room in the overhead cabin so he upgraded our seats to be in Group A LoL! I've always preferred a window seat, it doesn't make me feel claustrophobic when I could see outside the window unless we were flying at night, then I just try to take a nap. Long Beach, Ca. I used to like SWA boarding system when we could pay a little to be in group A. Evidently this option was not available for our trip to Nashville and back. By a strike of luck I got an aisle seat and my wife sat next to me at the bulkhead, even though we were in group B. On the way home I went for the center seat at the bulkhead and my wife got a row 4 window. Wasn't too bad overall. I really like how they stream movies through the planes Wi-Fi to your phone or tablet. Unfortunately on the trip home the Wi-Fi was down. That made for a long four hours. A great concept is boarding and debarking through both the front and rear doors. This should be an option at all airports. I truly do hate the practice of passengers in group A saving the whole row of seats for their friends with higher boarding numbers. Some attendants will say this is not allowed but the attendant on this flight said they could. Actually they have no official policy. If you are an assertive type and want to sit in a saved seat, you just do it. The flight attendant will not ask you to move, it is OPEN SEATING. Ever notice that NO ONE EVER saves a seat in the back? South West needs to address this practice of rude me-ism. read more

As I arrived at baggage claim in at the Long Beach airport I realized one was my suitcases was no where in site. I was pretty upset along with several other passengers whose suitcases were not on the flight. I asked Jesus, he check my luggage tag and he saw my bag was indeed checked but was probably still in Sacramento. Jesus helped me throughout the process I received several emails phone calls and text messages of the status of my bag. I received a phone call from Leo stating he would be delivering my bag to me in 10 minutes. The reason I love flying and Southwest makes me feel good. Every other seat is no longer closed off. They are using the A1-30 line up thing again. Flight is delayed by 20 minutes because the Southwest ground wing walker team was in the middle of a shift change. It's a cheap airline with cheaper services in order to maximize the profit! I think the employees own the airline and they definitely act like they are the bosses and not customers! I was lugging my heavy duty carryon luggage with tons of kimchi that weighed more than they looked, when I was searching for my seat with B23 number. I tried my best to get A list but no luck. I checked in one minute after the 24 hour before check in time and still haven't gotten any A list yet. When I couldn't find a single space for my luggage, I suggested to a lounging flight attendant who was clearly having an off-day would not lift a finger to make any room for me. I moved a large soft bag to the next compartment to make a room for my luggage. The Captain kept saying something unimportant over the PA system but it came out as jumbled like my old political science teacher's lecture. I forced myself to sleep between heavy weights until I was rudely awakened from my sweet REM sleep from the aggressive neighbor who had bladder issue. Overall today I am giving a very generous two stars for the airline company that I have to fly most often. read more

First time flying on Southwest from LGB to HNL and I am already a Fan of Southwest!! We had no problems at all, from checking -in, and getting on our flights. Checking in was quick and simple, I checked in on-line but I was late and was worried that I got Group C, I know better next time to check in earlier for Group A. If you are not familiar with Southwest Airlines, no assigned seating, seatings are by groups only, so best to get Group A for better seat selections. I printed my boarding pass and all 4 luggage tags via the kiosk and checked in my bag with the agent. I just love how we can check in 2 free bags per passenger and you don't even have to have a credit card for this perks. I brought back 10 bottles of wine in one of my luggage and it survived the flight, not sure if the "Fragile" sticker helped but the agent was kind to add that for the extra special care. After we got to our gate, one of the staff mentioned to get my pre-check band at gate 3. Thats such a life saver, we went over to gate 3 and got our bands. Thank you for this info., that band saved me from standing in the long *** line to scan my QR code (upon arrival at HNL) Group C was called and when we got on the plane, I was happy to get 2 aisle seats which worked out perfect. I need aisle seats on plane so that I can have easy access to the restrooms and not bother anyone. Important FYI, there's no USB charging on the planes, please be sure to bring your portable chargers. Flight Attendant services was awesome, keep in mind, no food for purchase on flights but they do give you complimentary snacks and drinks, also free inflight wifi and movies too! I've flown Southwest out of LGB multiple times and I've only been delayed once. (But I expect Southwest to pull something like this all the time. Sadly, I've gotten used to it.) Otherwise, never really had any issues with them. The ground staff were always friendly and accommodating, especially during family boarding. In all the years I've lived here, I never had an issue with this Southwest Airlines location. Mainly because of my personal planning, and not necessarily having to interact with anyone or even the staff. Download the app or purchase your flight online. Check-in within 24 hours. Get to the airport an hour prior to flying, they board 30 minutes prior, and wait for your group-position to be called. Get scanned and board the plane. Call it funny that I've flown from LBG at least 30 times over the years (mainly using JetBlue before they skipped town) but I don't ever recall interacting with the staff here other than when they have to scan my boarding pass. The usual, "brighten your screen sir" issue, but for the most part I've learned my lesson on taking a snapshot of my boarding pass instead of using the actual app. I do love their gates because they're newer than most airports and clean. I've debated between 4 and 5 stars, only because it was very convenient to have them open both front and rear door of the plane. I don't think they do that anymore, but I'll just reduce a star off my LGB Airport review instead. Knock on wood, I've never had a issue with service from the staff, flight attendants, or baggage claim staff. But I definitely miss JetBlue being here, oh well... Time to take off! read more

If you're traveling to Hawaii that has quarantine policies in place due to covid please make sure you stay away from southwest. They do not honor Clear Pass. Prior to arriving at the airport my wife and I went on hawaii's safe travels account to sign up for pre-clear and there is an option on the safe travel's account to digitally certify your vaccine it's thru "Clear" those kiosks you see everywhere for fast TSA check in. So we opted for that instead of uploading the vaccine cards. Upon our gate there was a line that read Pre-Clear and you get a wrist band. The ladies in the front do not know how to read. They skim thru your application and dont read the other portion that says you digitally certified using "clear". And automatically brush you to the side and yell out next. It's very demoralizing and frustrating to wait in the line and then to be told No go back in the line without looking thoroughly thru the application and asking me or my wife where the "Clear" certification is. We were brushed away like we didnt mattered it sucked. So after arriving in hawaii we were told to wait in another line that was atleast an hour to 30 minutes long as soon as we go to the ladies who was certifying our entry she did it in 2 seconds and said the ladies at southwest long beach didnt scroll down. Not only did they cost us a days worth of rental but they also cost us an expensive uber ride. Our car rental placed literally closed at 6 and we got there around 4:00... so I was pretty pissed and wished they trained those incompetent persons in the front clearing and issuing out wrist bands. Southwest Airlines allows their baggage drop employees to be high on the job. This resulted in my surfboard being damaged due to negligence. When I reported this to the airline they stated that because I signed the claim check release it releases their liability. Sad part is they won't even refund the $75 fee they charged me to break my property. I've flown with the surfboard on American Airlines 6 times and not once has it been damaged. read more

Very friendly crew. Comfortable plane ride for short flight. You get free beverages and free snack. My plane boarded in time and same then I flew back home from Long Beach to Oakland. I will definitely fly with Southwest again to Long Beach. Good deals. read more
