Then we are on the plane, and 40 mins after scheduled departure time(3:25) we haven't left and the captain comes on and says the plane has turned into a pumpkin - there was to be a mandatory check in our destination and if we had been in the air by 359 it would have been fine but since we weren't, the mandatory check had to happen at the departure airport and we are now deplaning. I almost always fly American but the southwest terminal at lax is so much nicer I thought I would take a chance. After spending more than I would have on an American flight, I'm fine with southwest. The last few experiences weren't great but this was the last straw. STAY AWAY if you want to actually want to get somewhere. Even Spirit is superior. I fly every week and my experiences with southwest are the worst. If I could give zero stars I would!!

We brought another group yesterday, and everyone enjoyed the tour. The only downside, in my opinion, is the boats used for the harbor tour. Yesterday we were on the Kristina, and in the past we've also been on the Caroline, which we chartered for my mother's ash-scattering ceremony about 14 years ago. Both vessels are showing their age. I also think the marketing could be clearer. The photos on the website and many travel sites prominently feature the newer catamarans, which gives the impression that those are the boats used for the harbor tour. I actually called ahead to ask and learned that the harbor tours use different vessels. While I appreciated getting the correct information, many first-time visitors probably wouldn't think to ask and may expect the newer boats shown in the advertising. The harbor tour itself is still worthwhile, and we'll likely continue bringing our guests because we genuinely enjoy the experience. I just hope Harbor Breeze considers updating or refurbishing the harbor tour vessels and making the marketing a little clearer so guests know exactly what to expect.

There was a lot of people in line. I was in the middle and thought I wouldn't get good seats, but I ended up sitting outside in the front. The boat is really nice and big. The front is the best place to sit with a good view of the whales and dolphins. The inside was packed and you don't really see a lot and sitting outside in the back you could smell the fumes from the engine. I did see dolphins and whales - the mom and the calf. They had a couple of experts talk about the whales and dolphins. We were past Newport Beach when we finally saw the whales. We spent a good amount of time seeing them. Then we went back. It's gets windy. It was a fun experience.

Kid had a rough time & was crying on the plane due to skin infection but I was able to cope through the 4 hour 40 min flight by comforting him at the front of the cabin and we also stayed in the restroom for some time. First class passengers were accommodating for the most part and we had staff that helped with bandages and drinks. I did not get to experience the Hawaiian meal service since I was so exhausted from carrying my child the entire time. Didn't eat at all. Guess I'll have to look forward to that next time. Forgot my phone in row 1 upon landing but their cleaning crew came to hand me the phone after baggage claim ended. Overall the plane ride was good -- service was OK -- and I'm so thankful my family landed safely after enduring 2 hours of a tearful toddler feeling miserable on the flight. At least we had some quiet time for the other 3 hours while he slept from crying too much. Phew - just relieved the entire episode is over.

I'm not looking to trash the owners, I just don't want anyone to be in the same situation we were, having to look for another place last minute after a long day of traveling, I was almost in tears, plus I had to pay way more to stay somewhere else because there weren't a lot of options.

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.

So.. after leaving there, I found out my dad had bought calling cards from Cambodia Express. Tried them out to find that all nine cards had accounts that were suspended! Before I was able to successfully board the Carnival Radiance ship, I had options to either drop off the luggage with the porters or take the luggage with me. I decided to take my bags just so I can have them readily available. Next, I proceeded to the "Arrival Appointment On Time" where my designated boarding time was set for 12:30 PM on May 14th. The line was moving at a fair pace and it didn't take long. At the first station, a Carnival employee checked the boarding pass and respective identification, whether it was an ID + birth certificate or just solely the passport. Furthermore, items were screened through security. Lastly, the walk to the cruise was a bit of a distance. Then, it was an ease to board the cruise. I loved the presentation of the indoor space. It had a bunch of fun Carnival wall signage, airplane decor, etc. The workers inside the cruise terminal were firm and straightforward with the customer service. The building space was spacious and clean. The Long Beach Cruise Center can get crowded easily at peak hours of pick up and/or drop off. It was crowded with many vehicles upon returning on May 19th. Thankfully, I had a ride-share that picked me up at an alternative location nearby to beat the traffic. The Long Beach Cruise Center gets the job done when it comes to accessing cruise vacations.
